These Sony headphones are super-lightweight, comfortable and safe. The MDR-A34L stereo headphones have a thin, lightweight and adjustable headband which allow you to fit them perfectly to your head's shape. The headphones are foldable (via three hinges) which allow for greater transportability; you can pack these away in your workout bag or in a jeans pocket.
The open-air design removes undesirable resonance by allowing outside air to pass through the headphones; the result is a better sounding headphone. The open-air design is also a key factor in keeping you safe while you exercise. The headphones allow outside noises like horns, passing bikers and oncoming dogs to meet your ears, even with music playing. With sixteen millimeter drivers, although miniscule, you can expect to hear a good bass sound. Neodymium magnets, a rare feature on such economically priced headphones, provide maximum energy with minimal size. Meanwhile, the Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response.
The MDR-A34L's oxygen-free copper (OFC) Y-style cord is double-sided and is 3.9 feet long, allowing for ample movement and separation from the sound source. The gold-plated, L-shaped stereo mini-plug fits mini-plug jacks, not the full-size stereo jacks. The headphones are a flat black color.

Frequency Response actually 10-23000Hz.......2007-09-12
The product information online lists the frequency response as "greater than 20Hz to 20000". I own these headphones, I have the original packaging, and sony lists the frequency response at 10-23000Hz -- which is MUCH better than 20-20000. I just thought people might like to know that these headphones are actually a lot better than they are advertised.
I also like the way they fit. They are comfortable, I can wear them on long plane rides without hurting my ears and without having to constantly readjust them. They fold up nice and small, and I've had a single pair of these headphones last over a year already.

I've been using Sony vertical headsets for years because ear buds are too large for my small ears, and I prefer the vertical ones rather than the kind that go over the ears. I'm really happy with this hinged headset; the sound quality is very good-better than my last Sony vertical headset-and having it fold up is very convenient for carrying in my purse. I've been using it with an adapter for my cell phone and doubt that I'll be satisfied with a mono earbud after this.

I love these headphones; unfortunately I have owned 4 pairs in 2 years. The plastic is very brittle and the handband always breaks near one of the 3 elbow joints. Too bad, because no other style compares to the comfort and portablility for running and the gym.

I ordered 3-hinged headphones, but the ones they sent me only had one (center) hinge. The day they arrived, my other set died, so I couldn't send them back for an exchange. Other than the ability to fold them small, they work fine

It looks good (the one i received looks exactly as it's shown on the picture), it works great... I bought it because last year i bought Viking 256MB memory card for my camera and i've been using it ever since (i travel a lot and take (and store on the card) a lot of picture; i was very happy with that product and didn't hesitate to buy from Viking a USB drive that i use a lot at work.
