Buy Them, You Won't Regret It.......2007-12-01
It is said that to get the equal quality sound from speakers you have to spend 10 times what you would on headphones. This set retails for $299 and I believe you would have to spend about $3000 to get a speaker system that sounds as good. I owned the Airtight Dynamic Monitor Stereo Headphones and Sennheiser PX 100 Collapsible Headphones before upgrading to the ATHA700s. I have the ATHA700s for about a year. What a joy they are to use! The fit is wonderful, although they do get hot. The earcup covers your ear and drowns out most outside noise. They are very comfortable and I have a large head. The earcup cushions are very soft. The linen covered cord is classy. The blue paint looks lighter in the photos here, mine are like midnight blue with metallic flecks. I listen to both movies on my laptop and VBR mp3s with them and hear things that I never did before. The bass is there, crip, and not overbearing. High notes are clear without distortion. You will hear details in songs you have been listening all your life that you didn't know existed. I use it with the TURTLE BEACH Audio Advantage Micro which seems to bring out even more detail. I have never heard better sound anywhere. Buy a set, you won't regret it!
Mid range AT headphones - pretty good.......2007-11-06
I have several "decent" open headphones (Sennheiser HD580, AKG K501, AKG K240s) but I needed a closed pair to block out some external noise. The A700 sits in the middle of AT's ATHA range (500...700...900). These are very comforable headphones, they do not have a boomy bass like some, the bass seems pretty realistic. The overall sound quality is very good, nothing leaps out and swamps the music.
The headphones do have a slight closed in feel , having more external noise blocked is a strange feeling to get used to and if you are used to open headphones it can be a bit disconcerting, but these do not sound boxy like cheap closed headphones.
I paid $109 for these, and I consider them very good value at that price point.
Being quite low impedance even an iPod will drive these headphones to decent levels. They are very large so will fit over most human ears.
Greatest headphones of its price........2007-06-11
edit: A more extensive review, on July 23, 2007.
First off, let me say that you should AVOID BOSE AT ALL COSTS. Their headphones are extremely overpriced and you can get the same quality of a $400 Bose in a $50 Sennheiser, or other superior headphone companies such as Audio Technica, Grado, and Alessandro (a sub-division of Grado). Now, on with the review.
I've had these headphones for almost 2 months now, and I've got to say, the experience has been great. The wire is 3 meters long, it's a tad long but can easily be coiled, and the length is a perfect distance from the TV (I've tried it - the wire was almost completely straight in the air, I don't know how them Audio Technica folks did it). Acoustics are wonderful, and if you listen close enough in quiet music, you can hear echoes, revealing how the wonderful sound was created.
Theses headphones are for all-around music, to my opinion, although they probably would fare best with acoustic music. I listen to a variety of music types and they all worked well.
The headphones are extremely comfortable. The foam + leather fits well on my ears, and the top head hold is flexible enough to move on contact, but soft enough for you to not feel it.
The looks, in my opinion, are wonderful. A close up of the headphones reveal shiny particles in the paint job, perhaps showing how they achieved the color. Personally, I believe it looks much better than its superior model, the ATHA900. The headphones are also as big as CD's - I've always loved huge headphones and these are wonderful for my slightly oversized ears, but will fit your average ears just the same.
I've owned a set of Philips SHP2500. Everything about these A700's completely crushed the Philips. The sound, its comfort, the looks - it made me appreciate this more.

In the $150 range of headphones, I will assure you these headphones are the best for all-around. It has a great look, very comfortable, and the sound is amazing. I've purchased the headphones and listened to them, and the sound was as expected, not amazing. But after 10 hours of burning in, I started to see differences. The instruments were seperated and you could hear each individual instrument. The bass reverbrated much more. Drum beats were more crisp, along with guitar parts. (This is all from listening to a hard rock song) I've heard from previous A700 owners that it takes 100+ hours for these headphones to fully burn-in. I cannot even imagine how great they will sound then.
Even better, after extensive research, I've found that Adorama Camera has the best price of them all - $119 + $5.95 overnight shipping, with a total of $125.90, it is much better than any other site I've looked at, and be sure that I've looked at every site that has these.
Better than Bose.......2007-03-12
These headphones are well worth the money!! My friend has a Bose headphone that he paid over $300.00 for. The Audio Technica has excellent sound. I was so surprised with the quality of sound. My son had recommended these to me and I was skeptical, but he was right...they do sound better than the Bose.

Audio pioneer and company founder Paul W. Klipsch launched the three-way Klipschorn loudspeaker in 1948 to enable people, for the first time ever, to experience the power, detail and emotion of a live performance at home. Commonly called a corner-horn speaker, the remarkably uncommon Klipschorn includes a highly efficient horn loaded tweeter and midrange compression driver. Its patented folded-horn woofer delivers the low frequencies. Considered a watershed industry event, the introduction of the Klipschorn set the standard for high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, low distortion, smooth frequency response and powerful bass. These principles, which drive the creation of every single Klipsch loudspeaker, are what make the Klipschorn as sought after today as it was decades ago. As the only speaker in the world to be in continuous production for nearly 60 years, the Klipschorn has remained relatively unchanged since its inception. In 2005, the company made some minor cosmetic and functional revisions to this legendary speaker, including the elimination of the inset collar, or spacer, between the upper and lower cabinets for a cleaner aesthetic appearance. A horizontal wall seal was added to improve the low frequency horn's connection to the wall.
