The Walk-Free Digital Wireless Headphones are the first true digital, wireless headphones for your desktop or notebook PC or Mac (they do not work for the iPod or other MP3 players). The Walk?Free Headphones transmit the audio from your computer in uncompressed digital audio format for the highest sound quality. And because it uses the 2.4 GHz frequency, you can use the Walk-Free Wireless Headphones up to 30 meters (open field) away from your computer. Both digital sound quality and distance are advantages over other wireless headphones that use infrared, FM or other wireless frequencies to transmit audio. The Walk-Free Wireless Headphones include a tapered, adjustable design with a comfortably padded set of earphones that work off of two ?AA? batteries (included). The headphones also include a volume control dial. To transmit the audio from your computer, the unit uses a USB wireless 2.4 GHz radio transmitter with 8 built-in selectable channels. The 8-channel selector gives you the ability to use the Walk-Free Wireless Headphones in spaces where other 2.4 GHz devices are being used (such as wireless phones and wireless network routers). The USB transmitter includes a Blue LED signal indicator that lights up to show power and signal strength. The Walk-Free Wireless Headphones do not need any added software drivers and work with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP, along with both Mac OS 9 and OS X. Selecting the USB audio output in your system preference panel activates the audio transmission to the headphones.

Works very well, I enjoy being wire free to move about in my work area. One down-fall is battery usage. These pretty much go through batteries fast. I replace my batteries every two weeks; I'm looking into rechargeable and a cost comparison.

I work in a noisy cubicle environment so was in need of headphones to drown out the noise. I got tired of the "leash" feeling I had with wired headphones, so I tried these. Plug in a USB dongle, plug in batteries (2x AA's supplied with package), turn on phones, play some music through your PC and you're enjoying your favorite tunes. The headphones have an on/off switch and a volume control dial. The USB dongle has a button that toggles between 1 of 8 channels, although I haven't had an occasion to use it so not quite sure how effective it is.
After 1 week of use, I offer the following observations.
good:
- good range, I'd estimate 30-50 ft depending on the number of intervening walls. Great in a cube environment.
- Sound is decent, not great, but decent (see below).
- Extremely simple to setup - plug in the USB dongle and your done.
- Build quality seems solid
- Freedom of movement without a wire getting in the way is the main benefit.
bad:
- sound is a bit muffled. If you have an software equalizer, you can adjust to your liking though.
- After about an hour my ears start hurting from the pressure of the phones, but I seem to be getting used to it as it's not as noticeable now.
- The headphones operate on a 2.4 GHz frequency, so if you're around other 2.4 GHz devices, you will experience interference.
- The biggest negative is that these phones eat batteries. The pair that came with the package lasted 2 days. A second higher quality pair of AAs lasted 4 days. I'm on my 3rd pair after a week of constant use. When the batteries start getting low, the phones cut off automatically. You can turn them off then back on and get another few seconds of play before they automatically turn off again. Very annoying.
Conclusion:
Well worth it to me to be able to listen to music in my office without having to worry about a wire getting in my way or restricting my movement. I'm going to have to consider rechargeable batteries though if I can't get better battery life (I need to try energizers or something I guess). I'd definitely recommend these.

This product performs as advertised. I have used "normal" wireless headphones with TVs & stereos, and these are better. There is no base unit to find a place for and hook up power to, and there is absolutely no static. The sound is pure and clear. The phones are comfortable and well constructed. Configuration (on my Windows XP machine) was the way USB is supposed to work: plug it in and you're done.
I get at least one full workday's use per charge from a pair of NiMH AA bateries. The range seems to be roughly 50 feet or so before the sound starts to "drop out". This is a bit hard to determine as my office has walls that may be interfering with transmission. Anyway, the range is quite sufficient for moving about in a small office or normal apartment.
Here's an interesting question: what would happen if one of your coworkers in a nearby cubicle got a pair of these? I sent a note to this effect to the manufacturer's customer service; they replied promptly and courteously, but were not quite sure. The base unit is switchable to several channels, but the phones auto-sense the channel. They (the manufacturer) supposed that the phones would match the strongest signal they could find. At least one of my coworkers thinks this product is so cool that I will probably be able to report on this later.
Overall, these headphones are a great idea, nicely executed.

I wasn't familiar with Axion as a brand but have been impressed with the basic quality of this device.
About 10 years ago I had a 2.2 inch passive matrix Casio LCD and became very aware of its limitation when not looking directly at it or in sunlight conditions. This one's active matrix or TFT, I believe.
I should have this for "free" when I receive its rebate, because I bought it with a laptop at CompUSA. Target sells the AC/DC adapters from Axion for about $20, but they charge both tax and a significant shipping charge.
The "B" Adapta-plug from Radio Shack fits it perfectly, but wasn't included in any of the multi-plug sets I had. The spec sheet calls for 500mA, but I am using a 300mA single voltage (6V) AC/DC converter with a previously owned set of four AA NiMH batteries, and all seems well. The recharging circuitry seems to work OK and also seems to make this item more "premium."
I seem to notice electrical "noise" in the audio with in-ear headphones, but not when using the speaker, and not when using batteries in either situation. The "B" plug should probably work with other Axion products.
