I was amazed at the quality of this television. The unit itself, as well as the the controls are manufactured from solid metal. There is almost no plastic. The picture quality is good, but the sound is a bit tinny probably due to the small speakers. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I never heard of the company, but the TV is a solid, well manufactured unit....a great value.

I've been using NEC optical drives for years, ever since an NEC-7800 became the first CD-RW I had ever used to work consistently and reliably. Their DVD+/-R offerings have been no different. For one, they were/are far, far cheaper than their "name-brand" equivalents; when I bought my 3500A, the equivalent Sony drive was at least $50 more. For another, while NEC's own firmware support is iffy (firmware being the device instructions that tell your drive how to deal with certain media, et cetera), the drive's status as an OEM staple--sold under brand-names like Mad-Dog--means that you often have a lot of choice when it comes to firmware upgrades. In fact, NEC's "home-brew firmware" community is quite large, meaning that my comparatively-inexpensive 3500A has a featureset and compatibility with new media that easily rivals the more expensive drives.
If you're looking for an inexpensive introduction to the world of DVD writing, go with an NEC.
