unexpectedly bad.......2007-12-19
I found a great deal on these and decided to pick up a pair ($34 at Frys). That is the end of the positive. First, forget using the silicone earpieces they are simply too narrow and/or long to provide a good seal(maybe it is just my ears) which is critical to getting any sound out these that doesn't sound like a 60s era hand held transistor radio--I had battery operated portable b/w tvs in the 80s that sounded better. Completely unlistenable. Replacing the silicone with the foam pads did inprove the sound a considerable amount but it also then revealed the fatal short fallings of the headphones. I have very sensitive aural perception and what I expect from audio is as flat a response as possible so as not to colour the detail of the music as produced with electronic tweaking and distortions. Having said that, the bass response of these phones is completely inadequate(using bass boost on my cd player only caused grotesque distortion even at moderate levels, the treble is not too bad and seems clean and somewhat accurate but suffers some roll off at the top (HK lists the frez response up to 16khz so...), the mid range seems to be fairly well reproduced and has an airy vocal feel about it. This brings us to the most fatal flaw(s): both the mid bass and mid treble regions are boosted to a incredible degree. Slight roll off in the upper and lower regions are common and almost acceptable in many situations but to boost the mid treble and mid bass to such extremes is truly bizarre and almost incomprehensible and certainly a deal breaker. These phones might be usable for recorded books etc but don't even come close to an acceptable standard for music. Your phones that came with your cd player mp3 player etc are far better which isn't saying much. Even at the 35 bucks I paid I can't return these things fast enough to rid myself of them. You should buy anything else. I have a hard time believing that HK would actually put their name on something like this. But then again HK isn't what it used to be since merging with JVC Infinity. BTW if you don't require a in-the-ear headphone and are looking for something for portable use and highly accurate given the price try Koss KSC55 which I believe is now KSC75.
Very Good Earphones.......2007-10-13
I have had the earphones about a month now; they're very good. I like the fittings for the inner ear; very well designed, and very good at reducing/near totally eliminating outside sound. The only thing that keeps me from rating excellent/outstanding is the very reason these earphones are the price they are (affordable) -- the high-end frequencies fall a little short. The bass response is actually pretty good.
All-in-all, having had them a month, I really would buy them again as opposed to buying another product; they're really good.

This turntable is holding a big CRT TV and it does what its supposed to do.If I ever need another one I will get this brand from this company.
