PERFECT BUDS FOR ANY SMALL MP3 PLAYER!.......2007-06-22
These buds are great. Great sound, great feel, great quality! Amazon shipping costs almost discouraged me from buying.(almost as much as the earbuds themselves!)But I couldn't find them anywhere else! Sony must own the patent on necklace style buds. Use them daily both at work and at home with my mobiblu mp3 player. They don't tangle. I just take them off my neck and hang them on my computer desk door knob and plug it in for the night.
LOVIN' IT!
Uncomfortable, tinny sound. good noise blocking........2006-03-18
I owned ex81 before i bought the nx1. Ex81 had a dissolving cord problem and I had to get rid of it in less than a year. I was very disappointed with the durability and the annoying cord that got stuck in everything, but I loved the sound quality of the ex81. So I decided to go for the nx1. I have an iaudio G3, which weighs almost nothing without the battery. And with the battery, it's slightly heavier than a AA battery. I thought that it would be a good enough size for a necklace type earphone. All I can say is, I was wrong. It feels so heavy on my neck and I am constantly adjusting it. Also, the earphone cord from the necklace isn't very long. So when it is snugly fit in my ears, I can't tilt my head sideways or look to another direction, or it would pull out of my ears.
I was also dissappointed by the sound. It sounds tinny and distant. It also has a very weak bass. My Mdr-j10 sounds clearer than my nx1. And I know that the earbuds have to go in all the way, since I owned the ex81.
The comfort and noise blocking is where the nx1 is strong in. I wore these for 3 hours without hurting my ears or even feel them in my ears. Granted, I couldn't move my head very much, but the earbuds themselves are very comfortable. Noise blocking is also very good. I can't hear my friends talking right next to me when I have these on. Overall, pretty satisfied. Would I buy them again? Maybe not. Probably would save up for any of the Shures, but these are great earphones for their price.
Short cable can be a problem.......2005-10-14
I bought these headphones after a friend of mine recommended his pair of EX71's. These are (from I can tell) the same pair with the addition of the neck strap.
This is the biggest problem (or advantage) with these headphones. The cable to the player is about 8 inches long, hanging somewhere around my chest. Whilst ideal for small Ipod Shuffle-esqe players or players with remotes, it is fairly useless for anything else. I am now faced with buying a remote for my Ipod or an extension cable. The neck strap is great in that it holds the headphone in place. Downside, it's a bit of a hassle to get around my head!
The second problem I had was that when I first used them the sound was horribly tinny. I was very disappointed, but I have since discovered that I was using the wrong ear buds (they come with three sizes) and since changing them the sound is hugely improved and they sound pretty good.
All in all, great headphones for small players you hang round your neck. For anything bigger though, consider something different.
These are great for my Mobiblu1gig cube........2005-09-28
I searched high and low for good necklace style earbuds for my Mobiblu Cube. The ones that came with it are good but have the standard headphones that fall out while running!!
These have good bass and great sound.
They are also very comfortable and stay in while running..
Thumbs up Sony!!!
Stylish, high-quality, noise-blocking.......2005-08-03
I absolutely disagree with the other two reviewers. These plug-style stereo earphones are great, and here's why.
First of all, I'd always been looking for neck strap earphones. In the summertime, it's just so inconvenient to leave my Sony NW-HD3 MP3 player in a pocket, even though it is tiny. Plus, when I walk around my apartment naked, there's no pocket to speak of! So I was so excited to finally see these headphones at my local Sony Style store. Now all my summertime problems are solved!
(I was hoping to get the red version, which would have gone real well with my red NW-HD3, but I couldn't find it anywhere, including the Sony Style store here in Boston, so I ended up getting this white version online. If you have an mini or flash iPod, this white version will go pretty well with it.)
In terms of sound quality, I have no complaints. Now, if I really want great sound, I put on my studio reference headphones and go crazy. But for daily commute and use at work (or when I do chores around my apartment), I prefer a lightweight, in-ear type of headphones, and this NX1 model is perfect. It has a good range, not too high-pitched nor bassy. There's definitely a lack of deep bass here -- although you can use your MP3 player's graphic equalizer to compensate for it, which I do on my NW-HD3. If you want a pair of earphones with terrific bass (and are willing to go deaf for it), this is not for you. For great-sounding pop and jazz and classical, I find the sound quality of this NX1 just right for casual listening. As sort of a semi-audiophile type, I'm pretty happy with the sound quality -- and I don't say this because I'm blindly loyal to the Sony brand. (If you search through my Amazon reviews, you'd see that I once rated one of their earphones 1 star and another one 2 stars.)
Because the NX1 employs rubber earbuds, it can block a lot of noise. This is not active noise-cancelling as with the expensive Bose headphones, but because the earbuds fit in your ear canals -- the NX1 earphones come fitted with medium-sized earbuds but include both large and small buds in the package -- they passively block out external noise. I personally prefer this type (and the over-the-ear closed type of headphones) because 1) I've never had good luck with active noise-cancelling headphones, and 2) I really wonder whether the low-frequency noise-countering sound emittd by active noise-cancelling headphones will actually destroy your hearing over the long term.
So, the NX1 is a stylish, high-quality pair of bud-style earphones. You can adjust the length of the cords as well as the segment with the audio connector.
My only complaint, which is minor to me but could be a problem for you, is the segment that houses the audio connector is short. Its length is perfect for my NW-HD3 and NW-E105, but I imagine it could be a problem for some players.
In a nutshell, the NX1 makes a great pair of earphones for summertime music listening, esp. if you wear clothing that has no pockets.
