HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. It provides up to a 5 GB per second bandwidth for transmitting pure digital video and audio signals with no degradation in the transfer. It can carry up to eight discrete audio channels, making it compatible with 7.1-channel surround sound systems. Signals are encrypted with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) to prevent recording. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with most DVI connections .

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

High Definition Formats: The most common high-def (HD) video format is 720p, which displays video at 720 vertical by 1280 horizontal pixels. The "p" denotes that it is progressive scan, meaning that all video lines are filled at the same time. The 1080i format displays video at 1080 vertical by 1920 horizontal pixels, and the "i" means that it is interlaced (the old-school way of presenting video where the screen scans the odd-numbered video lines first, then the even-numbered lines). The 1080p format has the same pixel resolution as 1080i, but it is a progressive scan format and thus has a constant vertical resolution of 1080 lines.

2nd set and it is still JUNK...........2007-12-22

Okay here's the deal. This set is a replacement of my original slimfit 30 TX-R3081WH. The reason that it was replaced was due to the audio ausilators (the things on the mother-board that make the sound). They made a terrible high pitched sound which drove me and my son crazy. The technical support was good and they had the TV serviced 2 times. The technicians were unable to locate the problem because the sound was intermittent. They did there best and eventually sent me a brand new "UPGRADE". With-in 2 months the new TV was doing the same thing. I was pissed and didn't call customer service to report the problem (BIG MISTAKE). The reason I didn't was because the new TV's high pitch was not as bad and went away fairly quickly. Fast forward a year and the set has just went haywire on me. The high pitch sound is back and is extremely loud. My father was talking to my son on the phone and was able to hear the sound over the phone when my son was sitting 10 feet way from the set. After the set warms up (usually within 5 minutes the sound goes away. However, the sound will periodically come back. I have yet to call Samsung about this because I know the answer will be tuff luck it's out of warrenty. I will update this post to let everyone know how this was resolved. Needless to say I won't buy another SAMSUNG TV. That is to bad because I experienced no problems that other people have complained about. The picture was outstanding and I experienced no bowing of the picture.

Sleak Apperance, Good Connectivity but very poor Picture........2007-11-04

I had this CRT HDTV now little over a year. This is my 2nd.
This Screen also bows on top and bottom of the screen. But only heavily noticeable in SD mode and 420i/p (4:3).
The effect is gone during fullscreen HD 720,1080 (16:9).
The biggest annoyance is that the screen does not fit in the picture.
I mean you can not read the bottom and/or top news bar on cnn, or when watching a sportsgame like football.
Same with my Videogame picture. It really sucks that i can not see the info on top and bottom !! The connectivity is very good (HDMI, Optical Audio etc.)

Avoid this TV if its for your primary livingroom. Ok for bedroom.

I have owned this TV now for over a year and I have not ha any kind of problems with it at all. I love the TV, Lots of different option with how you wanna view things on it. Good pick up adn comes with HD tuner already in it!

The TV worked fine for 6 months then started having the same problem as everyone else, blurring around the edges, so the warranty center came out fixed it and left, worked fine again until just after warranty expired, same problem that was 14 months after purchase, it took another 7 more months, by which time the TV was dead, to finally issue a refund, this included calls to customer service, ECR (executive customer service), multiple calls to the service center, a regional engineer review, a case manager review, and finally a product exchange review, with every process taking "3-5 business days" so I called back over and over and over. WILL NEVER BUY SAMSUNG AGAIN < NEVER!!!!!

I bought this tv in early 2007 and loved it at first. It had the look of a more expensive lcd or plasma tv. The picture was great and the speakers weren't bad either. Then about a month into owning it, the tv started making a high pitched whining sound. It would do that about 30 seconds every hour. Not bad, but definitely annoying. So Sears sent a 3rd party repair man that replaced the chip boards. That fixed the sound for about 1 week. Now I only get the whine about once a week. Its tolerable but now I wish I would have spent more and gotten an LCD. Oh yeah and it takes 2 strong guys to lift it, its over a hundred pounds.

Does not work as advertised.......2007-10-01

I retruned the product to Amazon and have not yet received my credit for the return.

The product did not work as advertised. Would not retain configuration across cold boots of the device. When ever there was a power failure I had to reconfigure the device. I had purchased two of them and both of them had the problem.

The DDNS does not work. Netgear acknowedgeds the problem, however, they are not willing to put out a firmware release to fix it. Instead they suggested I purchase another one of their products which was less secure, but has DDNS that worked. This after nearly two weeks of dealing with technical support with speech that I could hardly understand and that did not even know about the DDNS feature.
