Could be better!.......2007-12-15
For a Samsung TV, I'm a bit disappointed with this set. My parents had a Samsung TV that they bought ages ago and it had a great picture quality. Since I needed a new TV and my parent's old Samsung TV is lasting forever and had good quality, I decided to buy a Samsung. I bought this TXT2082 model and apparently, Samsung isn't making TV sets like they used to.
Below are the issues I have with this TV set:
First, the picture isn't all that "gorgeous" as the previous reviewer has pointed out. The picture is blurry and too soft looking.
Second, the colors are too rich and they bleed and bloom easily. I lower the color level down to try to eliminate this problem, but it just weakens the color dramatically and the blooming/bleeding effect doesn't seem to go away.
Third, there is no S-Video port. At this point in time, there should be an S-Video port on all TVs.
Fourth, the TV flickers often, especially when a picture cuts from a bright to dark scene. This causes a major distraction when watching. This is most noticeable when watching in Component mode.
Fifth, the factory calibration on this TV set is atrocious. Avoid the "Dynamic" setting! The contrast is set to its maximum and the sharpness & color levels are set way too high. This can cause severe eye strain. So, expect to spend hours and hours trying to calibrate the set to its proper, accurate setting.
Sixth, the front and rear composite ports can't be used at the same time. You have to choose only one of the ports. So, if you want to connect 2 different devices using the composite ports, you're out of luck.
Seventh, the component mode isn't all that great. Component mode is supposed to give you the best picture quality compared to the composite mode. Well in this TV, it doesn't. All it does is overexaggerate the color. Flesh tones are very orange looking.
I thought Samsung was the way to go when buying a new TV set, but I was wrong. I would have returned this set due to these issues, but there isn't any manufacturing defects and it's a bit heavy to bring back to the store. Doesn't matter anyway. In a few years, I'll buy an HDTV when the price goes down and it's definitely not going to be a Samsung!
Gorgeous picture for a SD CRT television.......2007-05-05
I bought this television because it has the best picture out of all of the available tube televisions between 20 and 27 inches, and it was the cheapest tube set with a QAM/unscrambled digital cable tuner.
First off, the resolution is standard 480 interlaced. It doesn't look 480i though, especially in component and digital TV mode. I was almost fooled that it was 480 progressive. It's that stunning.
Edit : In a pleasant surprise, I also found out that this TV can accept and display PAL 576 interlaced signals, a common video format in Europe. If you're like me and get DVD videos sent from Europe encoded in PAL, you won't need to worry about converting from PAL to NTSC on the DVD player.
The digital tuner automatically memorizes all of the standard and unscrambled digital cable channels when you power it on for the first time and throws away all channels with no content. So far, the digital tuner works with very little to no digital distortion, much better than the set-top HD tuner I bought a few months ago.
It has many options available on the remote, including changing around different picture and sound profiles, zoom in and out of a picture, sleep timer, and commercial skip timer. No problems with working the remote, either.
The sound is acceptable. I'm not an audiophile, but there is an equalizer in the audio options and the TV is stamped with Dolby Digital logo, most likely for the sound from the digtial channels.
The only complaints I have about this set that kept it from receiving a 5-star rating are:
* The picture is very slightly curved, but only noticable on those news channels' lines of text on the bottom and in video games.
* The left and right edges of the screen have an illusion of faint vertical lines because of the bigger pixel sizes on the flat screen's sides. Those aren't noticeable unless you're a foot or two away from the screen.
* The zoom feature only zooms in vertically. If you're watching something that has black bars on the sides, like most digital SD programs on a HD channel, you're stuck with them.
* The remote stops working if the TV is off and you push some buttons on the remote while pointing it to the TV. Pushing the power button on the TV eliminates the lock-out on the remote. A bit annoying if you're not careful.
Overall, I recommend this TV to anyone that needs a medium-sized television with a clear digital cable tuner, beautiful progressive-like picture on digital content and devices over component inputs, and doesn't have the budget to get a similar-sized HDTV.
Update: Samsung changed the info page for this television on their web site. The TX-T2082 is now advertised as a standard-definition television (SDTV). I removed mentions of the false advertisements because of this.

avoid it.......2006-04-19
if you plan to buy this, DO NOT update the firmware, i updated mine, now my router is dead. it is a common problem. the tech people couldn't help me. some people online say they got theirs to work again, but i had no such luck.
what kind of company puts out an update that could permanently damage their product?
Whats with all the bad reviews?.......2005-09-29
I have owned my NWR04B wireless router for approx 1 year now, and i never have had a problem with it... Ok 1 problem, The port forwards dont always work as they should. But from experience this is a problem with many routers. I also bought my router at the staples boxing day sale for 20 bucks. I dont know why some people are saying signal strength is poor. Jeeze i can use this thing halfway down the block, and the 20 something apartments in my building are always leeching my internet. Here are a few things i have noted though, the faster your internet connection is the better the wireless is. I used to have the LITE service that my ISP offered and I never had any problems with connectivity in my apartment. I let my neighbour also jack into the wireless during this time however he could only access it right by the window closest to the box. However i did an upgrade of my internet service to the fastest that they have, and now I can use this baby all over the 3 story complex. another thing to note... someone mentioned that their box overheats, this is true - my router used to get very hot. But I had a spare DC adapter laying around for the same voltage... and now there are no overheating problems.
Absolutely Horrible Product .......2005-05-27
This looked like a great deal. It set up and configured very easily. I'm very technical but even someone with limited technical abilities could set this up. It worked fine out of the box on my DSL connection.
Then it started, every other day, it will disconnect, requiring a reset of the router, a reset of the dsl modem, or a reboot of the PC, and sometimes all three. Most of the time a reset of the router does the trick.
But it's absolutely annoying. Their support is horrible and incompetent. From what I've read elsewhere, this is a common problem for almost everyone that has purchased this product.
Spend a little more money and get something that's reliable. I can't imagine this company staying in business much longer.
Don't flash it..........2005-03-06
Like a lot of others i saw this for $20 at Staples. Cheap for a wireless router and if it's crap, well i'm only out $20. Well, i guess i'm out $20. Played with it for a little while and it seemed fine, but like every other tweaker i thought i'd upgrade the firmware before finalizing it's usage. Bad idea. Flash said it was successful but afterwards the diagnostics light came on and stayed on. No more DHCP, no more browser connectivity, no IP on the router, no router (I think the switch aspect may still be OK).
Bottom line, for $20 i would have been happy with even poor wireless functionality, but no functionality is no good. If you buy one, don't flash it.
Now where's that damn receipt.....
Cheap but Unreliable.......2005-01-06
Pros: Cheap, small, good LED indicators
Cons: Freezes up every couple of days requiring reset, firmware hard to get
I bought the NWR04b at a Boxing Day sale at Staples for just $19 Canadian. I already have a wireless router and was looking for a 4-port hub, and this was cheaper than a hub, so I thought I would try it for a lark. The physical product is impressive with abundant LED's for port and box status, I was able to get full bandwidth (11MB) signal from all over my 3-storey home, and the user interface is decent. The unit hooked up to my ISP fine and seemed to work well at first. Unfortunately the firmware locks up; every 2 days I have to unplug it for 5 seconds then plug it in again - then it has to re-log into my ISP, but then it works ok. It does run very hot, but I'm not sure if this is the root problem. Web support is very limited. From what I read on the net, the older 1.2-series firmware is more stable. Mine has the newer 1.3 series firmware, but since you can't download this from the net (as of today only the 1.2 is on the site) I am reluctant to reflash it if I can't get it back. As such, I just disabled the DHCP and wireless and use it a a 4-port hub occasionally, and reinstalled my Dlink wireless router. If you can get this cheap and they come out with more stable firmware, grab one. If not, maybe think about spending a bit more for a more stable unit, or just be fine with unplugging it every couple of days. Much of the buzz I read about this unit lauded it as having Linksys guts - if so, these are pretty sickly innards, and if I were in brand management at Linksys, I'd want to distance my trademarks from this particular box. Peace from Canada, Jan 2005
