Works sometimes, but not others. Won't work with some cell phones.......2006-01-11
I have the lifter with the GN 6210. Sometimes, completely randomly, it just doesn't want to work and I have to run back to my phone to answer it. I must sayit has a good range for Bluetooth, better than my Jabra BT250 (which this is supposed to be the same thing as), but it doesn't answer calls on my Sony-Ericsson phone like my Jabra BT250 does, it will oly work when I make calls or transfer sound. It's nice that it works with both though. Don't leave it in your pocket or it can break, far too fragile. It picks up WAY too much background noise and, like the BT250, it completely useless in the wind. The tech support is not much help, when mine fails to work (about once a week) all they do is make me reset it then re-pair it, which works sometimes and not others. I'm sending mine in for a replacement. If I could do it all over, I would get a dedicated headset for my desk phone (NOT from GN) and a good bluetooth headset for my cell phone.

This product tries to bundle two uses into one - and succeeds, sort of.
First, this wireless bluetooth headset attaches to your office phone (with mine, no handset lifting is required). On this task, it performs admirably! I can't tell you how often I'm reviewing plans or searching through file cabinets and I was always getting caught up in the wires or pulling the phone off the desk. Range and sound are pretty good, but not great. There is some clicking in the background, and sometimes the microphone seems too quiet to others - not consistently, though. Range directly is about 40 feet, but only line of sight - no corners, walls or doors or you've had it - so no running over to bookkeeping to check on something. Ergonomically, it's pretty comfortable and not too heavy. The base serves as a charger.
The real problem with this product is how it interfaces with the mobile phone. When in the office, you'd think you'd want a product to attach itself to whichever line was ringing. Nope! You have to choose manually. This means, if it is selected to pair with the desktop, and the mobile rings, you must first disconnect it from the desktop, manually, and then connect to the mobile, manually, through a series of button pushes - which takes about 4 rings if you're fast. Otherwise it's voicemail land. This is inconvenient. Once done with the mobile call, the product will disconnect automatically in less than two seconds. If you want to make another mobile call, you must reconnect to the mobile - manually. Alternatively, you can connect with the desktop again - manually. This is really annoying after awhile.
When out of the office this product is next to useless. (I say this because I recently purchased a Mototola H500 which is lots better.) To save batteries, I guess, once you finish a call, the headset disconnects. But when I'm in the car, I want to be fairly handsfree, meaning a minimum of steps to do things. When the phone rings, you have to connect manually - each time. This is bad. (The Motorola stays connected while you're in range - this is great - one button push to answer - nice and fast.) Often, when I'm in the car, I need to make several calls in a row. Each time before making a new call, I have to connect to the headset. This just plain sucks!! Also, the bluetooth connection is often weak (w/ Motorola RAZR) and drops without warning and defaults to the handset, which means I can't hear anything. Further, if the razr is closed (which it is when I'm using the headset) it just hangs up. Nice. Real nice.
Oh, and the first one failed completely. I'm on my second one. I don't think there will be a third.
Long winded review - sorry 'bout that. I hope it's helpful. If I could do it again - and it looks like I'll have to - I'll keep the motorola headset for the car, and find one that just works with the office phone. While the wireless part is nice, and the switching idea seems like a good one, until execution improves, I remain underwhelmed.
GN 6210 Bluetooth Wireless Headset Review.......2005-08-22
This is a very clever product from GN Netcom. They re-sell/OEM the Jabra wireless bluetooth headset that normally sells for around $99 at Staples. For just $50 more on the web, GN Netcom has packaged bluetooth headset with their small cradle no bigger than a fist. The unit doubles as a desk charger and also makes your office land line phone into a wireless phone. Still have to lift receiver to answer/dial, but so what. Blue tooth works within site, not through walls very well, but great to use wirelessly around the office or remotely with Cell. Audio quality on the other end sounds fabulous. Setup was simple with mike volume and frequency selection in the base unit. Am using with Sprint/Audiovox PDA phone. I have had to soft reset PDA twice in a couple of weeks to re-synch headset/PDA ~ (simply push stylus into small hole on PDA). This is probably a Bill Gates Windows CE thing, as my GPS software requires same reset. Would stongly recommend - very cool product.
