Extremely poor quality, beware.......2007-09-28
I purchased these speaker stands because they were the cheapest I could find. I have small satellite speakers that are extremely light, so I figured that this would be a decent solution. Out of the 4 stands that I bought, 2 will absolutely not work as far adjusting height (they just slide down to the lowest position), and one had screws that were stripped out on the base. I can make repairs and rig the stands to work (just to avoid the hassle and expense of returning), but I had to do it over again I would not buy these stands. I'll leave it at 2 stars because they were so cheap, and they do look nice, but remember that you usually get what you pay for, and in this case, maybe a bit less.
Poor quality stands, but offer 48" height WITH SOME WORK & $.......2007-01-05
It is common for stands to come pre-drilled and sometimes even pre-bolted...but it takes a rare company to PRE-STRIP the holes for you! Had to re-assemble the stands with my own hardware to make them useable. Not only that, but the stands were so unstable at their rated height of 48" that I had to purchase 2 10lb plates to put on the bottoms of the stands to keep my 6lb speakers even close to steady (the stands are rated for 8lb each, so I should have had no trouble using 6lb speakers). In addition, the fitting that holds one of the metal tubes into the base was not threaded properly and I was unable to fully insert the tube as a result. The plate and L-bracket that attach to the speaker are TINY and made of PLASTIC...very cheap! I had to cut a wooden base for each speaker to mount to before I could attach them to the tiny plastic plate (with MY hardware, again).
Bottom line: If you REALLY need 48" stands and are prepared to do hours of work to make the stands usable (and supply your own hardware, some weight-lifting plates, and do some woodworking) then these may be your only option, as I could not find other stands of this height. However, if you can do with even 42", then there are other options out there...

A Great Scanner.......2007-12-28
I got one of these scanners for Christmas and It makes Wonderful scans and the software works with Windows Vista Ultimate and is easy to use.
Very Disapointed.......2007-11-23
I recently received this item from Amazon in brand new condition. After setting it up I cleaned the inside of the glass to remove the dust inside. After cleaning twice I realized there was a two inch smudge across the top of the entire scanner and it wouldn't come off. This is because this smudge along with a couple bits of dust are on the inside of the scanner and can't be cleaned. After searching HP's webiste and attempting to email them (after taking a couple minutes to fill out an online form I got a response back saying they were haveing technical difficulty with their mail system) and searching the web I couldn't find an answer to this situation. The scans are great and it has a lot of good features but when I get dust spots and smudges from a brand new scanner through no fault of my own I am very disapointed.
An OK scanner for an OK price.......2007-10-17
The scanner is a little noisy. The software leaves a little to be desired. Your settings are not remembered between scans. Overall, it is a good scanner for the money and the scan quality is very good on prints.
Not quite Vista-Ready.......2007-04-06
As of early April 2007, here's what happens when you attach this scanner to a PC running under Vista. Instead of using the software & drivers supplied on CD's included with the scanner, you have to go to HP's website and download a temporary driver. This driver enables the scanner to just barely function, as a stopgap until HP gets around to releasing robust, fully-compatible, software & drivers. The barebones driver essentially tells the scanner to default to whatever scanner software utility is included in Vista. This means you will be scanning thru a Microsoft interface, not an HP one. As such, you get the ability to save images as JPG files, but not as PDF's. In other words, the scanner's 4 dedicated one-touch-scanning buttons don't do that much for you; they just take you into Microsoft's scanning interface, enabling you to scan & save into JPG files. HP has no comment on when they will get around to releasing fully functional Vista-compatible drivers & software.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, the scanner seems to work. It's reasonably fast at 300, but high resolution settings take a long time. It's reasonably quiet. The lid lifts right off the scanner if you have a thick/bulky object to scan. If you scan something small, you need to cover it with a sheet of white paper, or else the film negative slot in the lid will appear in the background of what you scan.
