Great design, comfortable but not perfect.......2005-03-05

I have tried a few different headsets and I personally own an HS820 in addition to the HS810. My advice - Spend the extra money for the HS810, especially if you use it in noisy environments. I bought the HS820 first and I was initially impressed with the sound quality (incoming and outgoing) and loud audio. I also found it light and comfortable to wear. Once I started using it, the honeymoon ended. My last trip ended my marriage with the HS820 because I was in the airport and no one could hear me. I was told the background noise was louder than my voice. I heard this complaint before but didn't realize how bad it really was. After doing a bit more research this time, I decided to buy the HS810. The HS810 is a better, more well thought out headset design. One problem I have noticed with my phone (a Motorola V710) is that when paired with any Bluetooth headset, it does not ring. The HS820 was easy to turn on inadvertently because the button would get pressed when I sat down or by something pressing against it. When that happened, I would miss calls. In addition, I would miss calls because you had to press the power button for 5 seconds to turn it on. By then, the call was gone. The HS810 has a flip out boom, which is also the on/off switch. When flipped in, the headset is off. When you flip it out, it turns on instantly. This is much more convenient than holding a multi-function button for 5 seconds. It saves battery life because I never use standby and it is quicker to answer the phone, resulting in less lost calls. While the headset turns on instantly, it does take a second or two for it to pair with the phone from this state. You can leave it open and press the button to instantly answer the phone. The flip insures you will never turn this headset on by mistake. This headset rejects wind and noise much better than the HS820, which is important for me as I frequently use it in airports and outside but it does not have true noise rejection. The Plantronics MX3000 & 3500 have noise canceling but they pick up a lot of wind noise and I hear users complain of the ear clips breaking off easily. The HS810 was the best compromise I could find for sounds quality, noise rejection and comfort

The HS810 includes a neck strap and carrying case, giving you a few options for carrying it, although I just drop it in my pocket. I find the case to be on the big side but it is well designed and includes a belt clip. Many other headsets don't even include a carry case at all so I am not complaining. I find the HS810 to be comfortable to wear. It sits over the ear but has a silicone shroud that holds it in place and blocks outside noise, which is important because I found the receive audio a bit lower than I would have liked (lower than the HS820 but noticeably better than the phone itself). I don't like the Jabra style in-the-ear buds so that narrowed the choices for me. I like that I can charge the phone and headset from one charger (concurrently with a $5 Y-adapter). Motorola should include this latter accessory. They include an AC charger, which will also charge most Motorola phones (P/N SPN5037B). I find the blue flashing light annoying and it gets me unwanted attention when in public but it does flag those around me that I'm on the phone, which may discourage them from interrupting me when on a call. But when discretion is important, you can easily turn off the light by pressing the headset volume up and down keys simultaneously. That turns the light off until you turn off the headset. There is no way I know off to leave it off as a default (short of surgery).

Overall, I like the HS810 but it's not perfect. I wish it had a noise canceling mic, a little louder incoming audio and a user replaceable the battery. But is was the best overall headset I could find and not having to carry a separate charger was a big plus for me. If you have a Motorola phone, this is a no brainer but even if not, it is a strong contender. I paid $67 shipped using Pricegrabber, which is less than I paid for the 820 at a local retailer. The received audio on the HS820 is louder and has better fidelity than the HS810 but I can only recommend it if you plan to use it in a quiet environment and don't mind it's other drawbacks (see above).

Don't trust 1 star reviews. Search more on Google. I own this router for a few months. No problems at all. 0 dropped connections.

Bad Choice.......2006-12-02

One star is being generous. I bought this router to replace my worn out (5 year old) Linksys router. Seemed like a good deal (cheap). The TRENDnet router was deemed defective after spending two hours on the phone with an (outsourced) TRENDnet tech who seemed to have less of an idea than I did on how to get it going. DON'T BUY ONE. I went to the local electronics store and bought another Linksys. It set-up perfectly the first try minutes after I got it home.
