Highest quality sounding headphones on the market........2007-09-07
The Brookstone Soundshield 250 headphones are truly incredible. The sound can be run from the sound source directly to the headphones, or through a battery operated noise cancelling control box attached to the cord. As a sound engineer and music mixer/producer these headphones have been the best sounding, and most comfortable, headphones that I have ever come accross. When the noise cancelling control box is switched on, the headphones will become block all surrounding noises, leaving only the music. The headphones are truly remarkable when the noise cancelling device is turned on, as music can be heard in its purest form, they are also quite relaxing as all surrounding noise is silenced. There is a flaw with the durability though- the plastic piece that attaches the headphone to the head band allows the headphones to swivel; but only to a certain point. The headphones will not rotate past 90 degrees, and the small plastic piece will snap with pressure. This problem can be avoided, if the headhones are handled well and always placed back into the hard protective storage case. I was walking through the airport to board a plane while using the headphones and hung them on the shoulder strap on my backpack when not in use. I had the headphones for around 4-5 months at this point when I swung my arm against the headphones and the headphone snapped off of the headband. I took them to a Brookstone store at the airport and they where exchanged no questions asked. The sound of the headphones is the fullest I have ever heard. These headphones are professional grade, and any buyer will be amazed. For sound engineers, musicians, producers, or music lovers these headphones just might be the highest quality sound on the market today. If the small plastic piece breakes on your headphones, return them to the store and they will immediatly exchange them. The headphones can be fixed manualy with some work and a bit of super glue if the plastic piece breaks. Pick these headphones up, and prepare to be in sheer amazement at the sound quality.
Wait For The Next Model.......2007-05-08
I did not buy this model from Amazon but instead bought it at the Brookstone store at the Atlanta airport during one of my transfers a little over a year ago. On the whole, I thought it effectively cancelled airplane and other outside noise and rendered good rich deep bass sound with excellent sonorities. I cannot, however, recommend it. About 6 months ago, without exerting any unusual pressure, the ear piece popped out and broke off the bracket. I brought this to the attention of the Brookstone store at the Salt Lake City airport during a transfer and they were nice enough to give me a new one, no questions asked. I got the distinct impression that I was far from the first one to bring this to their attention. Last week, it broke off from the new one. The piece that holds it in place is made of simple plastic. When one normally extends the headphones to fit around the head, the application of normal pressure causes the ear piece to snap off. It cannot be repaired. When I took it back to the Atlanta airport store, they told me that I could not get another replacement because a year had elapsed, though they acknowledged that at that store alone, 6 prior people brought their headphones back for the very same reason. He said that their new model would address this. My advice is to wait for their next model unless you have no intention of putting the headphones on your head.
