It's difficult to know what kind of disappointment to express first. Should we begin with the physical design - perhaps the most awkward and clumsy personal electronic device one can acquire while gaining almost no benefit whatsoever? Wait. Maybe we should look at the noise reduction, which comes primarily from the wearer going silent once they realize they just paid money for these things. No . . I think we'll go with the device being faulty right out of the incredibly difficult-to-open bubble vault.
So first, you have to find something capable of both cutting open the plastic bear trap this thing is in, while at the same time not ripping into the unit itself. I finally settled on an eighteen inch, serrated bread knife. IT ONLY TOOK TEN STRAIGHT MINUTES to carefully extricate this dodo bird of a device from its keeper.
Once out, the device itself is a marvel of anti-ergonomic engineering. "No matter" I thought to myself . . afterall, I only need it for when I compute at the kitchen desk - to drown out some of the background noise.
Now THAT's funny. Because this thing doesn't "drown" out anything. I don't know if its possible to set one's expectation low enough to feel justified in purchasing this unit. To be fair however, it does work - a tiny, tiny, tiny bit.
That is, it works as long as you don't move it around. Yeah . . earbuds that don't throw off an aggravating background buzz, or cut out on one side, as long as you don't move around.
I contacted Turtle Beach about the device coming right out of the Clamshell of Death - busted. At least it seems like it's busted - I'm not kidding here - it's actually hard to tell if the thing is busted, or it just performs this badly. They refused to get directly involved. They referred me to the outlet from which the item was purchased. They would not acknowledge that the right thing to do, given the already lame nature of the product, was to go out of their way and make it "right".
THAT's when I remembered - THIS IS THE SAME WAY THEY ACTED when I bought my first external speaker system from them - to go on my IBM AT clone.
Shame on me for buying from them again, I guess. How in the heck did they stay in business this long?
