Just amazing for less than $300.......2007-12-13
This product replaced a older Onkyo HT-S570 5.1 sound system.....
This Onkyo home theater system sounds amazing compared to the HT-S570.. Crystal clear sound, amazing bass from the subwoofer. HD-DVD (xbox 360 addon) and BluRay (PS3) movies sound amazing in DD5.1 and DTS (This system has 2 optical inputs so you can plug both in).. I don't think you can get better than this for less than $300......
The only thing I would have liked would have been HDMI input/output, and Dolby TrueHD, but to get HDMI and Dolby TrueHD you are looking $1000+... Again for $300 this system sounds amazing.
Pretty Good Little System.......2007-11-19
I was looking for the best HTIB I could get for around $300. I settled on this one, as I've had very good experience with Onkyo in the past. I didn't need another DVD player, so I chose this sytem hoping that overall quality would be higher than some with included players.
This system won't blow you away or anything, but it sounds pretty good at this price point. The receiver has enough features, as well as inputs/outputs for my needs, and seems of high enough quality to be worth upgrading the speakers at some point as finances allow. So overall I am pleased with this purchase.
My only complaint is with the auto-on/off feature for the sub. Sometimes I'll be watching/listening to something at a low volume, and suddenly realize there's no bass! I have to turn up the volume to get it to come back on.
Also it would be nice to have at least one HDMI I/O, but I guess that would raise the price out of my range. Like I said, for the price I'm satisfied with this purchase.

In a smallish condo apartment you don't want or need big power or big speakers. I have an Onkyo 6.1 up north and I love it so I got the 700 for down here and it's all that's needed with a 40 inch LCD. So far, the powered sub-woofer has not brought any complaints from the neighbors. But, then you all know Onkyo is the best system for the money.

Best price anywhere. Delivery was fast and arrived well packaged. This is a sturdy stand, the particular design of which goes well with a recently purchased 52" flat Samsung (LNT5265 52" 1080p LCD HDTV) that looks and works well considering the length of the top shelf is 50" versus the TV screen's length of 52" (1" on either side is hardly discernible to the eye). Shelving is more than adequate for the usual components. It was fairly straightforward to assemble in less than an hour by one person.
