Bad TV plus poor customer service.......2007-07-18
I definately would not buy this TV again. An entire column of pixels failed on the screen and I now have to live with a permanent verticle black line on my screen (panel). Of course this defect occured one month after the 1 year mfg. warranty ended! I contacted westinghouse customer support and they essentially said that I'm on my own. They suggested that I contact their authorized repair company in Denver ( I live in california) about repairs. The repair company said that Westinghouse will not supply new panels to be used for repairs (something about it's not cost effective for older models). I contacted westinghouse again and presented them with my dillema: for $700, I got a TV that went bad in 13 months. On one hand you won't repair the TV because the warranty has lapsed by one month. On the other hand I can't repair the TV becuase you no longer supply the the part (screen) I need. Needless to say, Westinghouse did nothing to help me out...
Low Price = Low Quality + Poor Service.......2007-06-22
I bought this model LCD TV on 9/06 and was pleased with the price and performance. But slowly odd behavior manifested, such as random booting. Then the remote became unresponsive, and the only solution was to switch the TV off/on. Then the remote failed completely, and we couldn't even use the case buttons to power off...we had to pull the plug and restart. A call to Crutchfield (the seller) was made, and a replacement exchange was made in November to my satisfaction.
Well, the replacement unit began its own abnormal behavior within 3 months. It seems to be heat-related, as the screen display will de-stabilize (and become un-viewable) for about 20 minutes after powering on, then clear up after 10-15 minutes. It doesn't matter what the source is (OTH, DVD Player, or computer), the picture goes crazy for approximately the same amount of time.
Called them again, but Crutchfield won't provide a second exchange.
Calling Customer "Service" at Westinghouse, they suggested relocating the TV to a different circuit in the house, stating that "these units are very sensitive to electrical current fluctuations". Well, I tried to relocate the TV throughout the house with No Joy. I purchased a dedicated UPS/Line Conditioner...no luck. Attempts to improve the cooling resulted in no noticeable changes. After these trails, Westinghouse suggested factory-authorized repair (at my cost to ship). A quick Google reveals many horror stories related to people's experiences with Westinghouse's repairs (or lack of completing them). Sorry, I'm not going to spend any more time (except to warn others) or money on this sorry excuse for a television. What else am I to do...move out of my 2-year old home to accommodate a "sensitive" TV? None of the other electronics in my home have any problems.
Every night, the wife gets a garbled-screen reminder of how I made a bad choice in trusting Crutchfield and Westinghouse. And despite being a bona-fide Geek, I find it very disturbing to be woken up in the middle of the night by the TV having switched itself on.
I cannot believe that Crutchfield still sells this, and any other model, from Westinghouse. I will no longer be purchasing from Crutchfield, as they can no longer be trusted.
The Westinghouse brand name has been subverted...please stay away from it!
Worst TV.......2006-12-29
I bought a Westinghouse LCD TV from Best Buy and it did not work from the first day. The picture froze after 30 minutes. It would not turn on without being unplugged and plugged back in. The picture quality was awsome while it was on though. I bought a Best Buy 4 year service plan and they could not find parts for this TV to service it. If it breaks, it cannot be fixed. I returned it for a refund and Best Buy did not refund the full amount of purchase, even within 30 days! Do not buy this TV!
Was great for four days...........2006-11-28
but on the fifth day, it started acting up. First many bars down the canter. After I unplugged it to try and re-boot it, I got "only" one bar. Talked to Best Buy, and they said "it happens", and that I was lucky it was w/in the 14-day exchange period. Lucky me. What will happen with the next one on day 15, I wonder?
A Welcomed Surprise..........2006-10-17
I have to say I was very wary as many of you might be when it comes to purchasing a product with a company with little to nil track record. But I did my homework. Scanned all the techie forums, read up on it, and decided even with the problems that might occur (most of which can happen to any LCD TV of any brand) I felt it was a safe buy.
And so far it has been. I've had no problems whatsoever. No dead pixels, no white lines or uncentered, all inputs work accordingly. Haven't checked VGA yet because I need a cord but will soon. There is a line on the side but this only shows up when watching NBC in HD. And mainly only noticeable when it's showing standard aspect 4:3 ratio like commercials and what not.
I don't really have the budget to get something high end, but then again there's nothing wrong with this TV, it can easily compare with any other good TV. If you think HD broadcasting looks brilliant wait till you watch upconverted DVDs in 1080i or HD DVDs. I picked up the Toshiba HD-A1 from Amazon as well and that's another smart purchase. I just wish it had another HDMI input so I could hook up the PC via HDMI to DVI. But I'm ok with sticking with VGA just to not have to keep switching cables and only selecting inputs by remote.
I say if you have the cash to spare go for it. And get an extended warranty either way. It's worth it. Obviously if you have more money to spare you'll go with something more well known. But as a regular joe like myself, it definitely met my expectations and more.

The ADSL X5v integrates a full-rate ADSL modem, router, firewall, four-port 10/100 Ethernet switch, USB port, and VoIP phone port into a single cost-effective product. The Model 5565 has a special Local Phone port that lets you use your standard single-line phone for conventional phone calls or free and very low-cost Voice Over IP (VoIP) calls. Because the X5v integrates Internet telephony with a full featured ADSL gateway, setup is easy and system security is ensured. Integration of the voice processing with the firewall and the router ensures reliability of VoIP calls and reduces service provider support requirements. The X5v also comes with the Global Village VoIP phone service that sets up in minutes and lets you simply dial phone numbers and make free calls to devices like the X5v anywhere in the world. And because the X5v uses SIP, the most popular protocol for voice communications over the Internet, you can tap into a rapidly-growing world of free and very low-cost phone services. The X5v's built-in four-port Ethernet switch eliminates the need for a separate Ethernet hub for most home networks and many small offices. The USB port allows direct connection of a fifth computer to the ADSL X5v. By adding external hubs or a wireless access point, the X5v can provide simultaneous Internet access for up to 253 computers. The Local Phone port of the Model 5565 includes an intelligent relay that allows a single phone to place and receive both VoIP calls and calls over the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). PSTN Fail-Over allows the X5v to automatically route calls over the dial-up phone network when power is lost. PSTN support also allows emergency dialing using services like 911 or 112 calling.Setup is easy using any authorized local or remote computer's Web browser and the graphical user interface built into the X5v. Flash memory allows easy firmware updates, including additions to the voice compression codecs.
Customer Reviews:
Great bargain if you need DSL Modem and VoIP.......2005-09-08
Bought the X5V as a backup for my X5. Both wife and I work at
home, so if part of our network goes out, we're hurting.
Th X5V has very similar setup to X5. Even the setup for Global Village
VoIP account was straightforward. The "Global Village Choice" plan
is a pay as you go plan with no minimum usage per month. US rates
are 2.9 cents/minute and international rates are similarly
cheap. Voice quality is excellent. Global Village offers
a $24.95 unlimited usage option also.
The firewall/router features of the modem work great for
a home networking situation. The status screens identifying
ADSL signal strength and error rates work great for diagnosing
in-house wiring problems or (DSL supplier issues).
A great product for someone who needs a new ADSL modem and
would like to try out VoIP services. The price is only
a few bucks higher than Zoom's X5 which does not have the
VoIP features.
You aren't even locked into Global Village as a VoIP provider.

How to foul (rather) fool the scanner.......2007-10-11
The scanner works spectacularly; if you know how to foul/fool the end paper sensor. After spending 2 hours looking at all of the moving parts (there's only 5 or so of them) If you crazy glue a staple to prevent the bottommost switch so that it can't return all the way to the top of the support, thus triggering "paper jam," you can fool the device in to thinking that there cannot be a paper jam, even if there is one :-)
Made me paperless!.......2007-07-21
What a great product. I searched, researched and found the answer I was looking for - a compact product that I could put lots of paper into and quickly scan into various formats and then file or send back out as email, fax or post to internet (FTP). I also didn't have to have a Phd in computer science to do it. It is plug and play and very intuitive. I have gone from 16 file cabinets to none and drawers full of deal folders to everything on my computer. Life is good!
Excellent small footprint scanner.......2007-01-12
The Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner proved to be the perfect item for our busy medical practice. Documents can be scanned into the patient record amazingly quickly. 15 sheets are commonly loaded into the unit and scanned fast without having to babysit the unit to insure proper transfer.
The software provided works very well and allows you to save the document in all file formats with excellent OCR software.
It's small size made me initially leery but it is a workhorse.
I recommend this scanner highly.
Documate scanner.......2007-01-03
Our office uses the Documate to scan patient's charts, explanations of benefits & other misc. paper communications. We successfully scan over 800 pcs daily w/out any problems.
The Documate is fast, reliable and priced @ a good value.
amazing scanner.......2006-04-12
The scanner exceeded my expectations and support is fantastic.
I am using the scanner in an insurance office. The scanner can be set up to scan to multiple locations (employee's files) with the selection of 9 customizable presets and simply pressing simplex or duplex. Very fast. Really does scan about 25 pages per minute at 200 dpi (8 1/2 x 11) and 50 pages in duplex mode. Easy to set up. If you purchase it download the update to the Omni Page scanning software. This will enable you to scan to different locations as i specified.
I owned many other Visioneer scanners at home and at the office. They have always held up well.
