Easy Setup
The WNR854T makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your LAN into the device and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WNR854T includes a stand for vertical placement.
The WNR854T employs a web-based interface for configuration for compatibility with any computer with a web browser. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.
New Technology Means Blazing Speeds and Backwards Compatibility
The WNR854T complies with the latest 802.11n draft specification which allows for speeds up to 300 Mbps; this maximum speed can be achieved when used with other TopDog devices. By utilizing MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) technology, the WNR854T has speed and range far surpassing the older 802.11g standard. The preset internal antennas ensure that the device is always tuned for optimal performance, and NETGEAR's Wi-Fi Multimedia technology optimizes audio, video, and voice applications.
If you still have computers that use 802.11g or 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standards and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network. The WNR854T will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.
By using Gigabit Ethernet for the backend, you'll be certain that the router is receiving data at the highest possible speeds. The router also has four Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a wired connection that will give the fastest performance.
Security Made Easy
The WNR854T offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. It also prevents Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
NETGEAR's Touchless WiFi Security makes it quick and easy to set up network security on a WiFi network by asking for a passphrase from the user. The WNR854T supports WiFi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK), and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for 802.11b/g networks. Additionally, you can set security through MAC address authentication, allowing only authorized users onto the network.

It's too late for me. I had this gear installed last week. I will give it the benefit of doubt and rate it five stars. Now, I brace myself for 6 to 9 month failure. Believe me, if that happens, this site will receive the scathing review similar to those already given by so many others.

Purchased 7/8/2007, died (single green light) 12/29/2007. After seeing so many other people having the same problem, I think Netgear should recall this product.
TOL is right -- this thing is cruddy.......2007-12-30
The review by TOL is right on. This router worked great for about 6 months and then just died without any triggering event -- I simply woke up one morning and it was toast. TOL's statements about the customer service are accurate. I waited 15 minutes so that I could talk to a dude in India who was nice, but whose accent was so strong that I had to keep asking "what?" Not good. This router is expensive, too. Netgear should provide a longer warranty if they are going to produce sub-standard products. Better yet, perhaps Netgear should produce a higher quality product with better customer support. I have several Netgear products in my mega-wired home -- I think I'll stick to Linksys in the future, which has yet to fail me.

This is the worst product that I have ever bought. I bought this because my first router netgear also broke after one month . This one was their most expensive at this time. Problems- very buggy softwear. I couldn't make it to to let my p2p programs work properly. The router broke after 6 months. Netgear sent me refurbished one. After I tried to install it I saw everything in Japanese! Of course I couldn't instal it. After waisting my time I bought Lynksys and don't have any more problems.

I bought this thing new and it worked fine for 1 week. It then started dropping the wireless signal intermittently. Well, here it is 5 months later and the thing is toast. Just before it died, the DHCP function continually quit working and now the power light is the only thing that works. Netgear will replace it, but I really don't want to go through this again. Learn from my $170 mistake and buy something else.

Great mount for the money!.......2007-06-17
I picked this unit up to mount a Polaroid 26" LCD flat panel. I had to return a local unit I purchased from Wal-Mart due to the wall mounting bracket not being wide enough to accept the mounting pattern of the LCD. This one was just wide enough to accept the width of the mounting pattern on the back of the LCD and still tuck inside the edges of the flat panel. It comes with all the hardware for virtually any unit you put up and the build seems very solid. In reality I would give this a 4.5 out of 5 due to the only issue being the plastic pieces that line the brackets. They just kept falling off before I could put it in place so I SuperGlued them on. They really should have designed that different but other than that this mount is hard to beat. As a plus the center is open so you can place it around an electrical outlet or a plug panel for your components which is what I did. Better than the ones in Wal-Mart for the same price!
