This was an early Christmas gift for my 15 year old son. He wanted it to take on vacation so he had something to listen to other than my Christmas music. He plays it everyday and has really enjoyed it. Reasonable price and plays great!

I chose to go with this .mp3 player for a couple reasons, partly because I didn't feel I needed more than 2 gigs for what I was planning on using it for (turns out I was right, too; I have yet to fill it with music), and partly because I don't like the idea of a non-replaceable, rechargeable battery (for me, I think it's easier & safer to just use AAA's).
The only real drawback for me is that there's no AM/FM tuner. Normally I don't listen to the radio but having it would've been far preferable to the microphone this .mp3 player comes with. If you can overlook that then this is a great buy.

The product is excellent. The only problem is that it doesn't assign for itself a number for each song when is downloaded to the MuVo. So, you have to assign manually a number to each song. But overall, it's a good produc.
Audio Book Heaven.......2007-11-15
I've owned 3 MP3 players prior to this one. 2 iPods and a Phillip's GoGear. All fancy $200+ units. I think the models of those I purchased were probably great for music... but they stunk for audio books. Problems I had were syncing devices, 3rd party programs, extra cradles, wires..etc.... I'm a computer savy person and it was just a hassle to get new content onto those players quickly...
I came upon the MuVo line via a friend with the 512mb one. I played with it for 30 minutes and was sold. In no time I was able to plug it right into my PC's USB port and XP automatically detected it as a flash drive.... I dumped a medium sized book onto it in about 4 minutes and I hit the on button..... and that was it, it started with the first file and kept on truckin. Now the BIG test.... i turned the unit off and prayed that it remembered where i was at in my book... flawlessly it did :-)
I quickly ordered the 2gig version that holds about 3 books worth of data. I could totally get by with just the 1gig, but... regardless, i've got the extra space if I ever need it.
What I love about the MuVo 100 is it's super simple... there are no wires, it plugs straight into a USB port and I've used it on many a laptop and desktop with no problems at all. I listen to books about 12-15 hours a week.
I 'almost' gave it 4 stars for one little flaw.... you need to pay attn to the battery indicator on the LCD; it's the typical battery icon with 3 cells that start off black... then as you lose battery life a cell disappears... you get the picture. But when you're on your last cell, when you notice the last one go away, replace the battery. If you don't, it sometimes will fail to record where you were at when you turned the unit off and uses your previously timestamped shut off date. The only annoying thing at that point is once you have a new battery, fast forwarding to the where you were at.

My family and I have used various Muvo models for audio downloads -- from Audible and from public libraries. Unlike some brands which are set up to play short, song files, the Muvo is pretty good about "fast forwarding and rewinding" through long files. I particularly like the fact that the built in USB prong means no additional cable is needed to hook up to a computer.

I love it. It's the second one I've had...lost the first one and then found it after I bought this one. I'm pretty much a novice, but I think the sound is terrific, altho' the earphones aren't very comfortable. They're too big for my ears; when I hold them close the sound is really great. I bought some Sony ear"pods", real small, but the sound was garbage with them so I took them back. All in all, for the price, it's a really good buy and I'm happy with both of my MP3's!

i love it!! it is exactly what i was looking for. it isn't anything other then what it says it is. it is really strictly for listening to songs, like an ipod suffle. there is no menu, no fancy stuff. i love it for working out and riding on the bus. i think i will stick to my other creative for all the fancy stuff.

This low-cost MP3 player has many features I liked, and one I did not. The player is unusual in that it consists of two parts, the "player part" and the "battery part". The two parts must be connected for normal mobile use. The separated player part plugs directly into a USB jack for drag-and-drop MP3 loading and doubles as a normal jump drive. The two flat buttons on the edge are volume up and down, the rounded fancy button does everything else except on/off and works just fine. There are several "default folders" which you can load and then play just the tunes in one folder, and the manual suggests a 3-level folder hierarchy is possible, I have not checked that. [ The user manual can be downloaded on line and is "reasonable". Menu item "skip folder" means "select folder".] The display has good resolution and scrolls too-long tune names horizontally. It has a backlight that stays on after any button press for an amount of time you determine as a setting (there are very many settings). The AAA battery life is claimed at 18 hours and may be long due to the fact that this player seems to use a "slow" FLASH chip that does not support the fast USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) download rate. It loads at the USB 1.0 rate (12 Mbps, aka the USB 2.0 slow rate) which is in effect about 1 MB/sec. So a complete reload of 1 GB might take 15 minutes. If you are a very frequent full reloader, this player may not be for you. I had a special interest in this product because its "player part" can be powered by 1.5 volts applied to the power pins of its USB connector (which normally uses 5 volts). See my Amazon review of the $3 "JWIN JAC32 Dual Voltage Egg Power Universal AC Adapter" for hints on making a 1.5 volt regulated AC adapter (battery replacement) for this MP3 player. This little unit is easy to set up and has the SAME functionality which is important to me since I didn't want to hear warnings for places that weren't near to me. Other units I looked at had extra options like AM/FM radio but I didn't need those features. I just wanted something that would wake me up if a tornado was coming my way. This will warn you of many other things and you can set what you want to be notified about. Follow the instructions, it's pretty easy. It also will take rechargeable NiMH or Ni-Cad batteries and keep them charged. Or, you can switch it to accept Alkaline. The battery backup is important to have. Great unit, no complaints.

I had been looking at the Midland model 300. But after a whopper t-storm rolled through the other night, I high-tailed it over to Circuit City for a browse. They only had this F.A. model, and it was hideously overpriced (CC is competitive on some products, not close on others...go figure). So I bought it. Set-up was easy. Haven't had any alerts yet. Will return for a revised review after the next storm hits.

This radio arrived (and was set up) two days before very heavy thunderstorms with hail and high winds hit my area. It was early evening and the weather looked sunny and clear outside, when this thing goes off for no apparent reason. I thought it was a mistake or false alarm, but when I turned on the cable weather channel the radar showed a huge thunder storm rapidly forming in the West and moving my way. It's very late in the Spring season right now for a storm like this and I wasn't expecting any harsh weather. I had time to get the cars under cover, find the cat & put her inside and bring in the outdoor furniture cushions before the storm hit. In our neighborhood, we lost some big limbs a few trees and some cars were damaged by hail. Fortunately, I had no damage.
The instructions are not very complicated and the set-up was much, much easier than that required for a VCR or TIVO. It has battery back-up in case the power goes off and doesn't take up a lot of space on the night stand or dresser. Also, you can program which alerts you want to hear and limit the alerts to those applicable to only the County you live in. This really cuts down on unnecessary alarms. For example, though we are in an area that can have flash floods, I don't need this warning because I don't go out in heavy rain or flooding anyway. A warning about a storm only is sufficient. I think I might get this radio as a gift for some elderly friends and relatives of mine. It's a good and very unobtrusive watchdog.

Overall very pleased with this Alert Radio. It is simple to set up, very easy to read the display and the radio is very clear. Only concern is if the alarm is loud enough for a two story house. It's gone off twice, once when I was downstairs (where it's located) and it seemed effective. The second time it went off, I was upstairs and thought it was the television, until a commercial came on and the alarm kept going, then it dawned on me that it was the alarm. I would recommend that there be one on each floor, much like CO2 detectors and Smoke Alarms.
One worked, one nearly caught on fire..........2007-01-01
I purchased two of these, one for work which has been installed for over a year and works great (although since it is at work it could be going off daily with the alarms as others have mentioned), and one for home. I am just getting around to setting the unit up. I opened the unit and installed five alkaline batteries and started the setup process...it began smoking in my hands after only a few minutes. I disconnected the batteries and tried reinstalling the batteries but, now it won't operate. This is fresh out of the box...and I made sure the little switch for battery type was set to alkaline...this unit is going back.

Nice sound and good reception of weather channels, but radio constantly gives a weekly alarm with "radio reception error-listen to broadcast".
An emergency alert radio from a different manufacturer does not give false alarms. Poor design for automatic alerting feature defeats the purpose for having a radio with an alarm. Returning the unit for refund.
Huge waste of money.......2006-10-27
This radio is a huge waste of money and not worth purchasing. It functioned properly for a few weeks after I programmed it and then started throwing error messages on a regular basis. Then, it would cease to function about every two weeks - be completely dead. This necessitated disconnecting it from the power source, removing the back up batteries then replacing them and reconnecting it, and reprogramming ALL the functions and settings. It would then operate for another couple of weeks, and then stop again...the whole thing had to be repeated. I have finally disconnected it permanently and it is going in the garbage. I am purchasing a Metro radio and recommend that anyone in the market for a weather radio buy ANY one but this First Alert piece of shoddy workmanship.
NOAA alert radio.......2006-08-23
I bought two of these units for two houses. I am very pleased so far at the ease of use, once you set it up, which is easy also. Recently NOAA had an error in their broadcast and my radio came on and indicated that there was an error and self corrected in a few hours. Again ease of use and the right price.
