It functionally eliminates unnecessary traffic and relieves data congestion by delivering dedicated bandwidth for each of the five ports. An individual port can connect to either an Ethernet or Fast Ethernet device. NWay auto-negotiation automatically determines the transmission speed of the attached device on each port.

The DSS-5+ provides dynamic buffer allocation that employs network-load balancing for faster data handling. The uplink interface connection enables easy expansion. Excellent Low Priced Switch for Home and Office.......2007-08-18

I have typically been a Linksys only customer, but being frustrated with some of their products lately I decided to make a switch, and I'm glad I did. It's compact design makes it easy to tuck it away. I have yet to have a problem with the 2 that I bought, one for home and one for work. They have been running 6 months and counting with all the ports active in both locations.

Very nice Data Switch.......2006-07-10

The 5 port switch works great. Unfortunately I needed five ports that I could use. This unit only has 4 ports availible. The fifth port is tied to the dsl modem. If you only need 4 ports, this unit is great.

Great box, great price.......2005-10-04

This is a nice little switch. It has a rugged case, rear ports, and frontside link lights. It took about 30 seconds to replace my Base10 hub with this device and it has been silently blinking along ever since.

Excellent 5-Port 10/100 Switch.......2005-08-22

I've been using this switch non-stop for over two years now and have never had any kind of problem. It's a great little switch that's definitely worth the money. All the ports are in the back, the casing has a brushed aluminum look, and it's fanless, so it's definitely possible to leave it sitting on the desk. Since the "switching fabric" supports 1GB/sec, that means each of the five ports can carry their full 200MB/sec (100MB/sec each way) capacity without problem. The darn thing doesn't even get warm. Definitely a good buy (I rate it at 5 stars out of 5).

One note: If I were to buy another switch today, I'd probably go for the 10/100/1000 version of the same switch (the D-Link DGS-1005D). Darn near every computer sold these days has a Gigabit Ethernet connection built into it. So, having that switch would most likely let people take advantage of the added speed on their local networks (assuming they had Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling -- however, it wouldn't make any difference across the internet since only a rare few cable modem even connect at 100Mb/sec and I don't know of any that connect at 1 GB/sec). But, since that switch costs about twice as much as this one, there's a bit of a trade-off.

This item is a must if you have the Creative Labs speaker system(s) that are compatable w/ it. If you are listening to music off of your computer, & you want to be away from it for a while, this is the answer if you get tired of getting in & out of the chair when you need to turn the volume up or down, or turn the speaker system off if you don't want to hear the sounds of the computer. Be able to turn your subwoofer higher or lower w/ the touch of a button. Great! remote control for computers.

Poor Mounting system.......2007-08-29

Was VERY disappointed in this product. Adhesive is not strong enough to hold Sirius radio, have tried several time to mount at various locations in vehicle, but always falls off. Also would be nice to have a greater range in the swivel mounts. Perhaps goosneck mount would have been better choice. Advise is to pass on this one, unless you are not using the adhesive mount.
