Sturdy and Reliable Design
NETGEAR's GS100 series desktop switches are housed in a compact sturdy metal case designed without the need for internal fans, keeping operation both silent and more reliable. It can be placed on a flat surface or you can use the included wall mount kit to hide it away on the wall.
Simple Setup and Stellar Performance
Plug in your Ethernet cables and connect a power cord, and you're ready to go. There is no software to install or settings to configure. The switch features auto-sensing ports which automatically obtains the fastest possible connection. There are no toggle switches or special crossover cables. The switch will honor priority tags at both the Layer 2 and Layer 3 level if you have your network set to support jumbo frames.
Every port supports up to 2000 Mbps in dedicated bandwidth. Automatic flow control ensures smooth traffic. There is a queue buffer memory of 12 kbytes per port and a MAC address database size of 4,000. The switch has status LEDs for power, and link, speed, and activity for each port.
The NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch has a Mean Time Between Failure of 91,500 hours and is backed by a lifetime warranty. The power adapter is backed by a 2-year warranty.

Best Switch Ever.......2007-12-30
This switch I purchased from Amazon is great. I plugged all my connections and it worked perfectly automatically. Could not ask for better performance.
Works great, when it works.......2007-12-28
After 13 months of use it started to emit a high frequency sound and stopped functioning. The LEDs flash on and off as though the unit is power-cycling. Although they now have a lifetime warranty on the Pro-Safe series, mine died outside of it's 12 month warranty. By the way, I used 7 of the 8 ports; the built-in power supply seems unable to handle the load.
Would I buy another Netgear switch? I have another non-pro-safe Netgear switch that still works, but I sometimes need to power-cycle it to reconnect attached devices. I think I'll try another brand - perhaps Cisco.
Easy to use network upgrade.......2007-12-23
If you transfer large files to/from another computer or NAS this is an appropriate upgrade. I need to transfer upwards of 20GB regularly and was tired of waiting for it to complete using the good-old standard 10/100 ethernet gear.
When configured properly, this cut my transfer times by an order of magnitude as one would expect. I just had to make sure the NAS was setup to handle jumbo frames. If you don't to this, it is likely you will not notice a performance improvement.
The switch was ready right out of the box. No configuration was necessary unless you really want to use the management features.

Netgear's line of metal switches and hubs has always been an affordable, dependable product. I am glad to see that they haven't abandoned this format in favor of the plastic so many other companies are using.
I bought a couple of these for work when a group decided they needed to cram three conference rooms full of people on short notice. Netgear was the only product I trusted to work, and they didn't let me down.
