Customer Reviews:
Exceptional sound quality and easy to use........2007-12-21
I had the Sansa e280 for a few months and was never that happy with it. First the sound quality was average at best, with no real bass, The EQ function was very limited and did not offer much improvement is adjusting the sound. Also the blue function ring annoyed me in the fact the you could not turn off or adjust the brightness of it. Apart from that the player was okay.
Then I had it stolen, so I started looking for something new. Highest on my list of requirements was sound quality. Next was drag and drop functionality, I did not want to get tied to a proprietary system like the iPod. Third was an FM Radio. After much research on the internet I narrowed the choice down to two; The Cowon iAudio 7 and the Sony NWZ-A818. The Cowon is hard to find and I could not find one in a store to touch, so I chose the Sony. Am I happy I did.
The NWZ-A618 is a great player with exception audio quality, I cannot not distinguish between my CD player and the Sony with high bit rate MP3. Sound quality is phenomenal with a good pair of headphones. Bass is low, clear and crisp with no distortion noticeable. Yet is it not overwhelming and muddy. The EQ and additional sound tweaking options offer a wide range of choice and allow you to highly customize the sound to your liking.
Drag and drop from Windows Explorer is just as I hoped, easy to use. I have not installed the software that comes with the player yet. The player is very quick to start and shutdown.
The device is small, smaller than it looks, but appears to be a quality construction. The OS and input devices (buttons) are intuitive. The quality of pictures and video is also very good however the screen is tiny. In truth I did not buy this device to watch video, so that does not worry me.
There are a few minor quibbles, such as the release year does not pick up info from the tags and there is no way to create a playlist on the device. Also the lack of codec support is frustrating but not the end of the world. All in all this is one great MP3 player.
If sound quality is paramount, then look no further, Enjoy.
best sounding flash player on the market.......2007-12-17
I finally am happy with my setup. I have tried Ipod, Zen and others nothing comes even close to this unit. The most important thing a MP3 player can do is to sound good. The sound on this play blew me away! Its important to understand that the stock earbuds that come with this unit and ever other unit are mediocre at best. A few years back I decided to invest in some high quality earbuds. I ended up with the Shure e4 and then went and had custom fitted ear pieces make from Westone. Believe me when I say that upgrading to good earbuds makes a huge difference! This unit really strives at the following features above most:
- Clean sound (as I stated above... much better than others I have tried)
- No software needed to upload. (what a blessing this is)
- Instant start of mp3 files. (Others I have tried take a second or 2 before the mp3 starts)
- Easy to navigate. (Song db is updated from ID3 tags automatically after undocking)
- Very long battery life (I only have to charge this unit every couple of weeks verses every day or 2 with others)
Great Player.......2007-12-14
I really like this MP3 player for many reasons. It is very easy to add music, just drag and drop from your computer hardrive using windows media player (version 11 of windows media player is included with the player). The headphones are ok and the radio feature is nice to have as well. The buttons are easy to use. One complaint would be that because it is so small it seems to be fragile, I would recomend buying a case or just being extremely careful with it. Sound quality is exceptional.
Sounds great, looks great - all I want in a music player.......2007-12-13
I just received my NWZ-S618 from Amazon 3 days ago. Here are my first thoughts. In true Sony fashion, the player sounds great. (I use Shure SE110 headphones.) Some of my previous mp3 players include products from Cowon and Creative, and of course the iPod. I have to say this is the best sounding in terms of clarity and depth. The equalizer adjustments make a big difference if you spend the time to fiddle with it.
I must add that the black version of this player is absolutely stunning! The pictures don't do it justice. If you are considering this player, drop by a Sony store to see how small it really is. The matte finish also prevents fingerprints from getting on the case, which was the most annoying thing about my old iPod. Another plus is the flexibility in how you transfer music to your player. I currently choose to use WMP11, but drag and drop works just as well. The iPod/iTunes combo is great, but it means that you'll likely be stuck buying iPods forever since it can be troubling to move your music library to another software.
One thing that few people bring up is the fast start-up time. I can play a song as fast as I can switch off hold and press play. This is compared to a 5 sec. delay in my Cowon player. As others mentioned, battery life is excellent. The bad headphones and USB charging are to be expected, so it wasn't much of a downer for me. Last thing is I wish Sony included more video support. The screen is so bright and beautiful, but it is unlikely I'll make use of it because I don't want to convert my video files. No star off for that though, since I bought this product as a music player and it performs superbly well in that respect.
I like this player a lot.......2007-12-01
I purchased this player as well as the NWZ-A818 recently because I wasn't sure which one I liked the best. In the end I chose this player because I liked the form factor better. This player looks more solid and less flimsy than the 818 in my opinion. It's smaller and it has a built-in FM radio which the 818 doesn't have. Aside from that, the two players seem to be identical. i.e. they have all the same EQs and other features. However, the one thing that really puts the 818 ahead of this player when you look at the package as a whole is the head phones. The head phones on this player are pretty terrible. They are pretty much the equivalent of the $9 Sony headphones that you can buy separately. You'll probably want to replace them with at least some MDR-EX51s. Even the though the MDR-EX82s that come with the 818 are smaller, they seemed to have better clarity than the much larger MDR-V6 studio monitor headphones that I have. The mids and highs seemd better than EX51s and they didn't have the cheap cabling that EX51s have. MDR-EX82s aren't sold separately to my knowledge, but, I'm pretty sure they are the same as the EX85s and those sell for about $55 at the moment. So, value-wise and out of the box sound-wise, the 818 is probably the better choice unless you want the radio and you are picky about the size and form factor like I am. One other difference that I noticed between this player and the 818 is that although the 818s screen is larger, the screen on this one looks a lot better. It's noticeably brighter and better looking no matter what the brightness settings are on.
The good:
Very small and light
Finish looks fairly scratch resistant
Simple design that looks durable
Long battery life
You don't have to install any special drivers on Windows XP (although you may have to install Windows Media Player 11)
Screen is very bright
The user interface is intuitive and easy to use, for example, you can easily change EQ settings
Good sound quality, has lots sound adjustment settings
Has several EQ settings and two custom ones
The UI is very responsive
Skipping from one track to the next is fast, probably faster than a hard drive based player
The average:
File transfer speed, I thought it would be faster than the hard drive based Rio Carbon 5 GB that I was using previously, but, it seems only marginally better
The bad:
Cheap head phones, if they included the EX82s instead, this review would be a 5/5 instead
Price could be a bit lower considering you can get a 30 GB hard drive based player for close to the same amount of money
Proprietary connector designed to make you buy Sony cables when they could have just used a normal USB connector
USB charging doesn't seem to work with a USB charger adaptor, you need Sony's expensive one
Uses MTP not USB mass storage, doesn't have a drive letter associated with it, so, you can't copy files to it using the Command Prompt, but, it does work nicely from Explorer
Not sure if it can be used (unofficially) on platforms other than Windows
I don't like the way the right and left buttons work when scrolling through artists, it should jump a page at a time IMHO, rather than dividing things up into alphabetic ranges
It doesn't seem to show thumbnail images of images that you put on it
It doesn't recognize directories beyond one level deep for images, not sure if this applies to music or not
For me the amount of storage is still a little low, a 16 GB model would probably store virtually all the music that I listen to on a regular basis
It might be nice if you could delete files from the player itself rather than having to use a computer
Overall, I would definitely recommend this player, but, I'd recommend getting some better headphones after the fact if you don't already have some. Most of what I have listed above under the bad is just me nitpicking.

Easy to read digital clock.......2007-10-29
My wife and I like a clock in our bedroom across the room so we know the time if we awake in the dark. This Chaney clock is perfect. Easily read with its just under 2" numbers shaded green. Highly recommended. When your dogs wake you, you can see it's time to take them out or tell them to just "roll over!"
Quality Suspect.......2007-10-17
This clock LOOKS nice. What's not to like about a large, green LED clock?
However, when I received mine, one of the seven segment LEDs didn't work. So instead of 9:00PM it says 5:00PM.
Great. It will cost me more to ship it back then I paid for it. Guess I'll just go to Target and get one.
VERY NICE CLOCK.......2007-10-17
If you want a very nice alarm clock with a large display this is it. The display is hugh so it can be easily viewed from across the room and there is a dimmer setting if you want a low level of brightness. The control buttons are large and easy to use. My wife has poor eye sight and loves this clock.
Chaney Instruments General Alarm with Green LED Display.......2007-10-10
I love this clock. Very easy to see at night without my glasses! Simple to operate. My only wish is that it had the nap timer on it. I bought a separate naptimer for that feature.
