I've had this printer for a while now. I've used all of the functions except the fax, and I can tell you that this thing is slow, bulky, loud, and eats a ton of ink. I cannot recommend this printer to anyone.
The biggest complaint is the software package that comes with this thing. I have to wait minutes for the software to load up, and then you have to wait while it switches different applications within the suite. Scanning to pdf takes probably 5 minutes for a one page document. All in all, I deeply regret purchasing this thing, and want to throw it out of the window very badly.

I needed an all-in-one and had an HP in the past. Print quality is only good if you put it on Best quality setting. B/W copies good, color copies a bit faded vs. original so if you want crisp color copies, I wouldn't recommend it. 4X6 photos, however, as surprisingly good quality. The FAX works as well as any FAX I have used in the past. Haven't used the scanner yet. I agree with the reviews stating it is noisy. Printing is also slow in the the "best quality" mode. So you have a choice of fast/lower quality or slow w/better quality. However, for the price I figure I shouldn't complain. My last HP went through ink fairly quickly. I anticipate this to be the same.
ADD: one and half weeks later, I'm annoyed with how much ink it goes through, so I bought a Canon Pixma MP530. Well, that was bulkier, just as slow with very poor photo print quality.It was actually noisier than this HP. And the paper feeder didn't work very well. The Canon did have significantly better printer quality though with 2 paper trays which was nice. But after seeing the well-reviewed Canon, I'm going to return it and keep the HP which is easier to use and for me a better all around machine. If I knew how to do it, I would update to 4 STARS. For this price range, the HP seems the better deal...just get the XL cartridges which are supposed to allow you to print up to 450 pages before running empty (the smaller ones will give you about 150 at best).

We've had this printer for a couple of months.
As far as the scanner, it has served our purposes with no complaints. We haven't even tried the fax yet, so I can't say one way or the other.
Although the quality of the printing is really good, this printer really sucks up the ink! Really that is our only complaint. We just bought a new color cartridge less than a week ago and have only printed a handful of pictures. We already need a new cartridge! We've gone through a ton of ink with this thing. It is also on the louder side as far as printers go.
The picture quality is pretty good, so if you don't print much or don't mind buying ink all the time, this printer would be fine.

This printer arrived at my house on Friday with my new HP Computer. Man I was excited (yes, i am a dork!). I hooked up the computer and tried to set up the printer, (note-make sure you turn the printer on before you add the ink, seem backwards? did to me, but wont load ink unless its turned on first). Apparenatly this printer is not compatible with Windows Vista yet.... guess what HP is putting on all the new computers? Vista! So now I am having issues even getting this printer to work with my computer due to a software incompatibility.........you think this would of been worked out with the new VISTA roll out!

NOT WINDOWS 2000 COMPATIBLE!!!.......2007-06-08
Despite HP's claims, this printer is NOT fully Windows 2000 compatible. The print driver installed (and uninstalled) with no problems and the print quality was great. The TWAIN driver installed with no problems and allowed scanning with the PaperPort software I got years ago with my cheap Visioneer scanner, but the HP software (including fax and OCR capabilities) would NOT load, despite the efforts of FOUR HP support techs over two days. (P.S. to HP tech "Rave" -- Windows 2000 does NOT have Windows Firewall!)
To make matters worse, the included Windows CD kept giving disk errors during the install. I was able to copy it to the hard drive and make a good copy to complete the install from disk, instead of from the 240 MB download -- but with the same results. (Incidentally, NONE of the 4 HP techs suggested a replacement disk -- but then again, it would have had the same result)
If you have Windows XP, you may be very happy with this printer. But if you have Windows 2000, stay away from this dog unless you like talking to tech support.
