A smart, high-resolution multifunction machine, ideal for the home or small office, the Lexmark X85 is a capable printer, scanner, and standalone copier. In a smart black and silver livery, it looks like a desktop photocopier, and can easily perform this function in both black and white and color. To make copies, there's no need to connect the machine to a computer, as the two-line LCD and panel of 15 buttons provide all the control you need.
Indeed, one can do a lot from the control panel, including checking ink levels, enlarging up to poster size, and adjusting the machine's settings. However, the LCD is not easy to read and has no backlight, so you'll need a good room light source.
Paper feeds from a bin at the back of the machine through to an output tray that slides out from the front. You place your original on the glass of the X85's flatbed scanning engine. There's no multisheet feeder, so you'll have to copy page by page, but copy times are quite reasonable, even in color.
In our tests, print quality was generally very good, with precise, dense black text and well-reproduced colours. There are two photo print modes, photo and max photo, but for most purposes the much quicker photo mode will be sufficient. There was little obvious difference in the printed output, although dithered sections of fine tone were marginally improved. Print times varied between good, for straight text prints (a five-page text document finished in just over 1.25 minutes) and extremely sluggish (a 3-by-5-inch photo in max photo mode, which took just under 8 minutes).
Despite the low-contrast LCD and slow photo printing time, the X85 is a good general-purpose multifunction device, offering strong software support that is ideal when space is at a premium. --Simon Williams

I've had my Lexmark X5150 printer for a little over 3 weeks and couldn't be any happier. It prints the most beautiful photos, best text and doesn't have to be connected to my computer. It's won me over to strictly Lexmark from now on. Thanks Lexmark.

I purchased the Lexmark X85 with the hopes of getting a good All-In-One printing machine, two days later I returned it and got a good All-In-One Machine in the Lexmark X5150.
Just about everything was wrong with the X85. It missaligned everything, unless it was on the exceding slow Max-Photo setting. Even at regular speed it was way too slow. Whenever it printed something it sounded as if it was about to explode. The program it came with was about as user friendly as a SWAT team to a wanted criminal. In fact the only thing that worked on the thing was the scanner that worked very nicely. Otherwise the machine was [...].
If you are thinking about purchasing the X85, don't. Spend the extra money towards something better like the X5150, heck even the cheaper X75 is better than the X85. So I guess what I am trying to say is do not get this machine, there are much better ones out there, even for less money.
A trouble maker.......2003-06-27
I purchased my X85 6 months ago, since then, I got a lot of troubles with this priner. The first time I used it to print a color photo, it came out all pink. called customer service, they send me a new catriage, now the color is still not right, the images are either too blur or two dark. Also the copy does not seem right. sometimes the first couple of black copy came out all black ink, after a few times, it will do copy. the quick mode does not work properly either. And it constantly lose connect with my computer ( I use window XP). Finanlly I got fed up with this printer, and I call customer service again, now they have 1800 or 1888 number for technical support, upon my request, they agree to send me a new model x5150 with a reasonable extra charge. The new X5150 works great with photo printing, now I can send picture to my family and friend printed from my printer. Compared with X5150, X85 is a trouble maker. Would not recommend this, but Lexmark customer service is not bad.

RCA DTC-100.......2004-03-02
I have had 2 of these units replaced in less then a year. First time it was because no DTV signal second was no OTA signal. First time it was under warranty and second time it cost me $239 to get it fix. Thomson who makes this for RCA would not fix under warranty because the second unit had a 90 day replacement on it. I have had a lot of DTV receivers in the last 4 years and this one was the worst!!!! Stay away and spend your $500-600 somewhere else!

After buying the best HDTV-ready TV for my money (meaning in my budget) last year which happened to be a 52" RCA, I was ready to experience HDTV for real and had been looking at the DTC100 for quite a while since it would be directly compatible with my TV, but the price was a little higher than I wanted to pay. All of the local channels are HD now and I don't have satellite so I was looking to use it strictly for over-the-air (terrestrial) HDTV. Well, I ended up finding a demo piece available at a local dealer and snapped it up since it was the last one.
I took it home, plugged it in, plugged in a standard VGA cable between the DTC100 and my TV, and I was up and running! It searched and found all of the HD channels locally and the picture quality was great! Finally I'd gotten the most out of my TV and I was impressed. The remote from my TV runs the receiver right out of the box so I didn't even need the remote for the DTC100.
I plan to eventually order DirecTV and this box will work with DirecTV.
As a couple other reviewers said, the biggest knock I have on it is that the analog output (RF or SVHS) and the HD outputs don't function simultaneously, but that's the only thing. I love having local channels in HD with Dolby Digital surround! AND it was cheaper that buying a new over-the-air ONLY receiver by another manufacturer...
DTC-100 (An waste of time and money.......2002-10-04
I bought one in January of this year. It failed after 6 months and the warrenty is only good for 30 days. I exchanged it for a refurb from RCA for $137. The refurb failed within a week.
Big quality problems would make me avoid this like the plague. Do a search...to find much more information on this problematic unit.
BAD PRODUCT/BAD SERVICE.......2002-09-24
I bought this product in January. It started humming in July. By the beginning of August it was humming and kept shutting itself on and off. A few weeks later, it was dead.
The company claimed they would replace it but for [money] and I would receive it in 10 days. 6 weeks later, after calling the company several times, they finally tell me they no longer have it in stock. They say I need to pay [money] to get it fixed and that it takes 2 weeks. I don't trust them.

Day 0: DirecTV installers wanted to charge me extra for installing it, since it was HDTV, while Best Buy assured me it was free with my package. Finally Best Buy covered the extra.
Day 1:Technician spent 3 hours to get it installed, since the HDTV mode was not able to be viewed in 4:3 aspect ratio. Only 16:9
Month 2: RCA Tech Service was never able to figure out. I finaly forgot the issue.
12 months: Working great...but never in HDTV. [money] bucks for what you can see with a $[money] unit.
17 months: "..looking for Signal.."
18 months: It took 3 visits in 1 month for DirecTV to figure out that the receiver was dead...what an expertise!!...
19 months: Sent an e-mail to RCA to complain and find out a solution...the answer: call a toll free number and follow carefully the instructions.
TODAY: Here at Amazon buying a non-HDTV receiver from Sony.
...The ideal combination....a POOR quality product with an even WORST Customer Service.

Cobra 500 has its problems, but..........2006-11-20
We have had problems similar to the ones that many of the other reviewers have had with their Cobra 500. The first unit we had worked marvelously for over 10 months. Then one day while hiking my wife pulled it out of her coat pocket... Dead. She contacted (phone) Cobra service. They suggested to send it back in to them. It would be repaired or replaced. Three weeks we received a new unit. This unit was used simultaneously with a friends Cobra 500 on a hiking/geocache trip. The discrepancy was startling. Although we were standing nearly side by side the two units show a difference of over 500' from the cache site and the compass arrows were off by 31 degrees. After further testing we found out that our new "replacement" unit was the one that was in error.
Another call to Cobra and another bad unit back to the shop. We received out third Cobra 500 via FedX three weeks later along with a sheet from the technician tell us that the old unit could not be repaired. Therefore, they were sending us a replacement unit at no charge. Now understand, we were out of the original warrantee period by over a month. (This is the reason for the 2 stars.)
We immediately went out on a multi geochache hunt. Four finds in 2-hours. This third unit is the winner: acquires satellites within 30 seconds, updates continuously, and is accurate to within 10' of the stated geocache's Lat/long.
Do I like The Cobra 500? I like the third one. ( I just hope it lasts for a few years of heavy use.) Would I buy another Cobra GPS unit? No!!! Absolutely not!!!

I have used your CB radios for over 30 years. Professional truck drivers convinced me that your radio products are the best. I agree with them. Your Corbra GPS model 500 left me with a bad feeling for your product line. In a little over a year you have reduced my positive feelings about your products that I have had for over 30 years. I feel like you submitted a product to consumers well before you should have place your name on it. I do not appreciate buying a "beta" unit when your advertising stressed the advanced technologies in your product. Your Cobra 500 was supposed to be faster and better than your competition. Maybe the third unit has those attributes.
Time will tell.

I was lost in the woods, due to the Cobra500, since it is unable to lock on any satalites, when a skunk tried to attack me. I threw my Cobra500 Gps at it, sending the skunk away. And it worked. Maybe this GPS is just a skunk defender tool of some sort. Because as a GPS it is really skunky. Seriously, This product should have never been sold to the public. It is faulty in all aspects. My parents got this for me and it does not function at all. It is completely worthless. I spent many frustrated hours trying to get it to work. I'm sure it took a few years off my life.
Too Good To BE True...it Ain't.......2006-07-30
The bargain GPS I got seemed to work fine on the trip home from town, except the build in maps only list major roads.I spent the money on the interface cables, power cable and mapping CD roms only to discover that the 500 will not allow map detail information like roads to be uploaded! What then is the point? I wanted to be able to download the routes and use them with maps. The software is horrible compared to Microsoft or Delorme.
Save your money.By a GPS package for your laptop or get a middle priced Garmin or Magellan! I understand why I got it so cheap. I got what I paid for. Just wish I hadn't spend money on the accessories!
It works brilliantly as..........2006-07-17
The unit works brilliatly as a paperweight to hold your map in place so you can orient by compass. First time out with the GPS as our guide, we stayed lost for 6 hours. Stupidity on our part to be sure --- for getting lost in the first place AND for thinking the Cobra 500 would do a lick of good helping us find our way. If it locks, look fast, it's going to lose the lock. If you are fortunate enough to actually get it to lock long enough to establish a waypoint or 2, it may decide to wipe them out for no reason we could find. I wonder if Cobra became passive-aggressive toward the public after the CB died? This unit could not have performed to any appreciable standard in pre-release tests, so why did Cobra release the thing? I'd really like to know. Then again, I think the company headquarters is in southern Arizona. How could one get lost in southern Arizona when all you need are binoculars? Perhaps, but only perhaps, this unit performed to someone's idea of a standard when they could eyeball their way home.

I bought this because of the low price and small form factor - and will be returning it because it is almost unusable. This is possibly even slower than a USB 1 device. It took 5 minutes to copy 20 megs of data. Even doing a full format and defrag on the disk didnt help. AVOID!!!
