Two Printers Too Many.......2007-01-26

My Magicolor 2430DL had worked well enough until a terrible jam removed some crucial pieces, so when Konica Minolta released this new printer, featuring the same compact size but with a much higher print resolution, I thought I would give it a try.

Maybe it's because this product is too new and hasn't had the bugs worked out of it yet, but I have to warn people that my experience so far is not good. When my first 2550 arrived, I set it up per the instructions, printed one test page and was ready to go. But on my first attempt at printing a plain paper page of text, I received a jam and error: "Service Call 14". I spent a lot of time with Customer Support, and they finally determined that it was a mechanical error and sent me a new printer. It took three days to arrive.

Hooked up the replacement printer, test pages worked fine, used all manner of materials to test: plain paper, vellum, transparency, laser label stock--worked great for the first 10 or so pages. Then, suddenly, we received the dreaded SERVICE CALL 14 error again. What happens is the paper is pulled only partially through the bottom roller, and then the printer locks up and gives the error. The paper's not even reaching the ribbon yet. Another long call with customer support and a tech tries to imply that this error is caused by the printer not being plugged DIRECTLY into the wall, as opposed to plugged into our surge protected power strip. A strange claim, but we did plug the printer directly into the wall. Printed a few pages, plain paper mind you and then: SERVICE CALL 14.

On the few pages that did successfully make their way through the printer, the quality was beautiful. It took some tweaking to make colors turn out right (they tend to be muddy and dark on automatic settings), but the graphics are top notch. The problem is not the quality of the print, but the printer itself.

I am not looking forward to another lengthy phone call to customer support, and I am utterly disappointed by this printer. If it would just actually work, I would be elated. But it doesn't. I think I am done with Konica Minolta printers for a while. The print quality is hard to beat for the price, but the actual printers are cheap and not reliable.

Good product but original one defective.......2007-06-13

When it works properly, this is a great product. It's easy to advance slides remotely, or go backwards, at quite a distance from the screen - and the flash drive holds a lot of presentations. The laser pointer is good too. However, the original product that I purchased wasn't so hot. The scroll wheel for advancing slides didn't work very well, and sometimes got stuck for reverse motion. Plus the flash drive locked up after only a few uses. The company sent a replacement, though it took a little time to get my refund for the first one.

Nice bracket, but temporary adhesive useless in summer.......2005-07-24

The bracket itself is reasonably well-designed, offering enough degrees of freedom in how it can be adjusted. So, it's somewhat useful. However, the adjusting knobs on mine seem to need frequent re-tightening, as the assembly rattles when they loosen. Also, the temporary adhesive pads appear to be pretty useless in summer: the adhesive melts in the sun and the bracket falls off, leaving a gooey mess.

This item from Garmin includes temporary and permanent mounting stickers for your dashboard. The temporary one worked great until it didn't, rather unexpectedly, and the permanent one didn't work at all (though it may have been user error...). These Garmin accessories tend to be pretty nice quality, but man, you pay through the nose for 'em.
