About Victorinox
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. The file doesnt have a screwdriver tip, there is no ballpoint pen, and no LED mini light. And no key ring.
It's still a really cool product, but I REALLY don't like being lied to, particularly about something so expensive. An LED light , screwdriver, and pen were all features I really wanted and contributed to my buying the product.
This player has a few bugs..........2007-01-01
Being a fan of Swiss Army products, I was waiting for the 2GB version
of this device to show up at a reasonable price. When I got it, I
really liked the small size and the fact that it supports what people
call "USB On The Go" which simply means that your computer will
recognize it as a flash drive and you can copy MP3 files to it without
any special or proprietary software. It also has it's own USB
connector so you don't even need a cable. Now for the bad news.
There is *no* support for playlists and *no* support for playing based
on the folder structure, even though the documentation implies that
these things are supported. To be clear, the documentation states
that it supports the ability to create a playlist in, for example,
Windows Media Player and then "sync" with the device. This does work,
but you can't access the playlist once the music is on the device, and
there's no guarantee the files will play back in the order you specify
in the playlist. This is really a deal-breaker for me since it misses
the point of why people create playlists in the first place. A third
(somewhat related) flaw is that, when you try to play by "CD" (i.e.,
the ID3 "Album" tag), it messes up the sorting and plays things in the
wrong order, even though I'm fanatical about making sure my file name
ordering and ID3 "Track" tags are 100% right. I'm going to try to
contact the Swiss Army people and see if they will accept suggestions
for firmware fixes but if I don't get a quick response this thing is
going back.

And it is certainly more than that, as it's cd player also sounds very very fine. I just received this today and it exceeds my expectations by a long shot.
Great sound, remote & reception-- and it's quite beautiful to boot!
I am spoiled by my "main rig": a 2 channel system that includes a VPI Aries turntable, Marantz model 7 pre-amp, a Naim cd5 cd player, KEF 105.2 speakers, and Grado PS1 and AKG K1000 headphones. This one piece unit is more in league with that fine equipment than with the alternatives; so much so that I did not want to turn it off tonight. My local NPR station was playing some Sinatra just now, and it is the best I've EVER heard him sound from a radio. Before that an alternative station played some REM off "chronic town" followed by "London Calling" and it rocked a large dining room and kitchen very nicely. I love my new radio!
I auditioned everything but the new cambridge soundworks hd unit (which was not shipping yet), and I'm glad I trusted my instincts and the few reviews because this is just fantastic.

I Will Never Order From Sky Box Again ! .......2007-08-01
I ordered (or so I thought) a black tilting wall mount for my new LCD TV. What I received was a silver non-tilting version of the wall mount. Hello? Did anybody at Sky Box read the order?
After following their cumbersome request for refund/exchange process (which would not work correctly on my computer) I was told that they would check inventory for the correct mount and I would be able to exchange for one. Well, come to find out (many, many days later...on my on effort as they never told me anything without me asking for it first) that they did not have the correct mount in stock! It took them weeks to process my return and refund... In the mean time, I was stuck without the LCD mount that I needed to finish my installation.
I will never order from Sky Box again !

Functional & Practical, but basic.......2006-01-10
The GARMIN 60 GPS is a nice GPS that is "base" no-frills model. I was able to plug it in, load the software, and start entering waypoints within 5 minutes. The plug and play USB port worked without a hitch.
The unit itself is very accurate -- although it took me 5 minutes to realize that I didn't have to wait and watch it synch with satellites each time I turned it on. The Unit's GUI is somewhat counter-intuitive - with 9 buttons -- some of which you hit all the time, others which are never used.
Entering coordinates does not appear to be possible (except onto the GARMIN software on your computer and transferring to the GPS unit), but this method works reasonably well.
The screen is fine, but not overly large (you should have 20/20 vision) and is black and white -- no color. This is not a complaint as the screen is perfectly read-able.
Battery life was approx 4 hours on 2 AAs. The belt clip and attachable hand-leash were nothing special, but utilitarian.
