cheap and easy.......2006-12-05
This Mp3 player isn't packed with a ton of features, but a solid choice for the price. It just does what it says, plays MP3 and UNPROTECTED (non-subscription) Windows Media. The sound is good for the price range, and it has a preset eq function that works nicely. Navigation is fairly easy, with one button controlling most functions (press to turn on, press again to play, press once more to pause and hold to turn off). You don't have an FM tuner, and you can't play subscription media (no napster, audiogalaxy, yahoo music, etc), but pay-per download services (Emusic, Wal-mart) will work just fine.
There is an SD card slot, but the "playlist" is just a folder that the player can limit itself to, so storing 1-2 gigs could get messy. The construction feels slightly flimsy, but you could buy two of these for the cost of most other players in this feature set. If you're looking for a starter MP3 player or something to use on the go (do you really want to carry a $100-$200 player around town?) this is a good choice.

This is basic MP3 player. I use this for listen to music till I fall a sleep at night. For that purpose, this is good.
You may able to buy a better MP3 player for similar price. Like Sancdisk Sansa - very good player with radio inbuilt.
I kind of like the earphones came with this.
MP3s OK, WMAs a joke.......2006-05-20
I bought this MP3 player a couple of weeks ago. It was at a good price and has 512 MB storage. It's a good device for playing MP3 files. I have had few problems in that area. Navigation through the contents of the player is easy.
What has really ticked me off is playing WMA files. I've bought several songs from MSN music stores. The device is billed as playing these files, but it's quite the exaggeration. I don't know that any WMA file I have bought plays cleanly. Few actually even play. One that does causes the player to hang at the end, forcing me to remove the battery to shut the thing off and then keep pushing the controls to try to get to the next file when I start up, otherwise it will just hang again.
I emailed their customer service to find out what's wrong. All they would tell me is that the file must be protected and can't be played. That one file actually does play apparently does not contradict this statement that the file can't be played. That the files play perfectly on other MP3/WMA devices also apparently fails to contradict this claim that the files cannot be played. (The files can't be played. The fact that you can play them does not contradict the fact that they can't be played!) I have repeatedly pointed this out to Coby, but have been totally ignored. I've even tried to help diagnose the problem by pointing out that the bit rate indicated on the LCD is quite a bit lower than the rate actually in the file.
So my conclusion: If you are in the market for a pure MP3 player, this isn't bad. But take their claim that it plays WMAs as the joke that it is.

If you're looking for a solid pocket radio, and you think you might enjoy tuning in broadcasts from around the globe, then the remanufactured Grundig Mini 300 might be the choice for you. This radio doesn't have the powerful features and reception of a higher-end shortwave radio, such as Eton's E1XM, but it does offer a convenient, pocket-sized way to bring clear AM/FM and limited shortwave radio reception with you wherever you go.

Design and Controls
Measuring a tiny 2.5 by 4.5 by 0.75 inches (W x H x D) and weighing only 4.5 ounces, the radio is certainly in the pocket-sized category. It also comes in an array of attractive colors, including red, yellow, pearl, bronze, and blue. The tuning and volume dials, as well as the band selection switch, are found on the narrow sides of the unit. These controls are well-placed and can be operated with one hand. The front of the unit features the LCD display, power button, and a few pushbutton keys for setting the time, alarm, and sleep functions.
On the left side of the Mini 300, you'll find a 3.5 mm connector for headphones. Grundig has included a set of earbuds for private listening right out of the box, while the small, built-in speaker on the front of the device allows you to share broadcasts with other listeners. The Mini 300 gets its reception through a built-in "stub" antenna that sticks up 2.25 inches above the device, and then extends an additional 20 inches. Although the compact design is handy for on-the-go listening, the "stub" portion of the antenna does make the Mini 300 feel a bit bigger than it should. A fully retractable antenna would have made this tiny radio a bit more travel-friendly.
The two dials on the right side of the unit control tuning and volume. The dials have a nice smooth action, but a note of caution: The dials can be easily--very easily--moved from their position. This is less of an issue with volume control, but for fine-tuning reception, you might find yourself re-tuning stations each time you bump the tuning dial.

LCD Display
The Mini 300's LCD display is crisp and clear, with a clean layout that makes it easy to control the radio's tuning, clock, and timer functions. The display has icons that indicate when the alarm and sleep function are turned on--a small loudspeaker and a bed, respectively. And as you flip through bands, the display indicates AM, FM, or shortwave selection.
The display has two minor downsides. First of all, there is no indication of which shortwave band you've selected. The Mini 300 is equipped to tune an array of bands--49, 41, 31, 25, 22, 19, and 16 meters--but regardless of your selection, the radio consistently displays a single "SW" for shortwave. Also, you cannot see the time of day when the radio is turned on; time is only displayed when the unit is powered down. Nonetheless, important data, such as band and tuned station, is easy to read, and the size of the radio certainly outweighs the limited information presented on the LCD display.
Tuning Options
Tuning the Mini 300 is very straightforward. The radio tunes MW (commonly known as AM), FM, and shortwave signals. If you're new to shortwave, you'll have to take your time to find just the right frequency, as the Mini 300 does not offer an auto-scan function. Yet, even with our limited knowledge of shortwave broadcasts, we made several discoveries and heard stations from around the world. Unfortunately, given our limited language skills, we did find it difficult to always know exactly to whom or what we were listening! Even though the tuning dial is a simple, traditional design, meticulous tuning was easy and reliable.
After a little research and a good amount of time spent playing with the tuning options, we did discover that our best opportunity for tuning shortwave broadcasts was in the evening. AM and FM broadcasts sounded strong and clear, day or night, and we enjoyed listening to the radio on the bus and at the park. The Mini 300 runs exclusively off of two AA batteries (included).

I like the digital tuner. works well for when the power in my house goes out and I want to hear if a tornado is getting ready to kill me. a little complicated switch wise as there are many finicky options in settings. I would buy it again.

If you contact V7 they will RMA the unit and give you updated mapping data and new firmware. The software update gives the latest Tele Atlas maps and 6 million points of interest. This solves all the problems and turns this into a highly useful and accurate gps which I can compare to Garmin.
V7 Navigation 1000 Portable Navigation System: Review.......2007-07-12
Only after 3 days of owning this GPS I made up my mind to return the device for the lack of quality performance within it. Here are only a FEW reasons why I didn't like this GPS
Cons:
- Routes are usually the "long way" and could be shortened dramatically (Sometimes it actually directs me to do a complete circle and then tell me to go another direction after completing the circle!!?!)
- Just as the previous reviewer stated, There is a Button that is SUPPOSE to send you back to the Menu, but doesn't work AT ALL. And with that being said, you already losing your money that you paid for.
- The battery life is just horrible, my battery only lasted about 2 hours, eventhough it should last AT LEAST 3 hours.
- The map itself was off while driving (I was on the highway and it was displaying that I was on the access road!?)
- Now you're thinking, "Well it does play mp3 and videos right?" Well you are right but in terms of the video and Photos, the resolution is so bad that it makes the videos and photos look like a yellow/red negative film strip. But the sound is rather decent.
The only positive thing about this Navigation system would have to be the Cover Art of the Box, which was one of the reasons why I was interested in getting it, but it seems as though they spent more time and $$ rather than the GPS's performance overall.
Only get this GPS is your not willing to spend a lot of $$ but at the same time, you get what you paid for...
Good system... if you're OK with all the bugs........2006-12-31
I rushed out (quite early) on Boxing Day and picked up a V7 Navigation 1000. I have spent the last several days reading the manual, testing and using the unit. Overall, I am pleased... but that being said, I will be returning the unit today as I have found another GPS that is around the same price point and doesn't have all the bugs.
PROS:
(1) Accurate GPS tracking and navigation;
(2) Very good maps, with updates coming in March or April 2007;
(3) External buttons allow you to zoom in/out without using touchscreen;
(4) Good speakers for MP3 player;
(5) Nice MP3 player and picture/slideshow viewer;
(6) English directions include an American male, a British male and a British female (my personal fav!);
(7) VERY sleek and sharp looking design;
(8) AC adaptor and DC adaptor included;
(9) Ability to turn off screen while continuing to navigate (good to save battery power while on a motorcycle or walking);
(10) Does not lose GPS signal in downtown areas with tall buildings, etc.
CONS:
(1) Does not save settings (time and date resets when turned off, navigation voice defaults back to American male, etc);
(2) Though date on unit will auto-correct when GPS is linked with satellite, the time remains incorrect (at least in my area);
(3) There is no USB cable and hence no way to hook the hardware up to your computer for any updates;
(4) Tech support is decent, but wasn't concerned about bugs in the system, etc;
(5) You cannot listen to MP3s while navigating... its one or the other;
(6) There are no paper manuals included, and the manuals on the included CD are unreliable as they have several incorrections;
(7) There is a "M" button on the hardware unit, which is supposed to take you to the Main Menu, however the button has no fuction;
(8) There are 1.8 million POIs, which is actually kinda low compared to other GPS units (including ones of comparible price);
(9) The unit comes with a 32MG SD card, which you will HAVE to upgrade if you want any amount of MP3s, etc;
(10) There is no Canadian or American website for updates, info, FAQs, etc... the only site that I have found is for Europe.
ALL IN ALL, IT IS A GOOD UNIT FOR THE PRICE, BUT YOU MUST BE WILLING TO ACCEPT THE OBVIOUS BUGS IN THE SYSTEM AND PROBLEMS WITH THE TECH SUPPORT, ETC. I GIVE IT A 3 OUT OF 5 OVERALL.
