A great, basic player.......2006-12-29
I got this player at an incredible price, so I'm not sure I'd pay the listed price here. I would say it is worth spending around $30-$40 max for it. It is not as slick as the new screens and displays, but if you just need a little something to grab and go, you got it. The sound quality is great, just as good as my sister's $150 mp3 player. Transferring is easy and fast, charging is comparable to all others. Display gives you more than you think. Benefits: can also use as a jump drive. very small (pack of gum); Drawbacks: supports only mp3, wma and wav files. no fancy readout. Overall, a nice basic unit.

Great MP3 player for the price........2007-01-17
If you like a simple MP3 player / Data Storage device, then you can't go wrong with this one. The LCD is not very colorful but then again, I want to hear my music and not look at it. The USB connector slides out so I can connect it to a PC anywhere on the GO. The sound is nice and loud and it is so lightweight (Flash Memory vs Hard Drive)that I take it on my bicycle rides. It is also better at handling falls and spills since it uses Flash Memory instead of a mechanical mini hard drive. I like mine so much that I sell them here as well. Great for college students that like to carry many files as well as listening to them.
I would rather have a cassette walkman.......2006-11-28
The display is hard to see unless you have a well lit area. The buttons are hard to figure out. The thing feels and looks cheap. I bout it because it was on sale and returnd it a few day later. The good thing about it is I dont own it anymore. Im getting the Samsung Nexus 25 with XM.

And because there are no moving parts, the Lyra's music playback simply doesn't skip.
Listening to music is only part of the fun, however. The Lyra also stores data files, such as digital photos, PowerPoint presentations, text documents, and more. It even reads the file name and type on the display, making it easy to recall the files when needed. The data storage in effect turns the Lyra into a mini hard drive, making it a great companion for anyone who needs to transport data from one location to another without wasting a CD-R or hauling along a laptop. It also serves as a nice data overflow device in a pinch, such as when needing to free up space on a digital camera.
The Lyra is compatible with PCs running Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, or XP or Macs running OS X 10.1.5 or higher. To connect, simply open the Lyra's easy-to-use mechanical sliding door, which reveals a direct USB connection. The door keeps dust and dirt from building up on the USB connector and prevents battery degradation. Additional features include six DSP modes (flat, bass, pop, rock, jazz, and EQ); a key lock; a rechargeable NiMH battery; and a full accessory kit with earbud headphones, a neck strap, and a USB cable.
The Lyra measures 4 by 1 by 0.375 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

RCA LYRA.......2007-04-06
A great unit to store music and files. I use the unit both ways.
Pleasantly surprised..........2006-12-09
I had just bought a JVC KD-G720 for my Jeep Liberty and was looking for a small flash memory device when I came across the M100. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, and I couldn't find any reviews for this item anywhere. It was a good price for what it had to offer, so I gave it a shot. So far I have had zero complaints with the device. It's tiny and lightweight, yet it isn't awkward to hold or work. It has a retractible USB connection that I plug directly into my stereo head unit when I am driving and works flawlessly. Then, once I'm out of the car, I can plug earbuds directly into the device and use it as am MP3 player. It has good EQ presets, better than I expected, and organizes everything in folders the way they are arranged at transfer. The only thing I would want to see in this specific model would be a backlit LCD screen, since it is a bit difficult to see in low lighting. I am not sure of the audio quality of the earbuds either, since I use my iPod earbuds for everything. This device is worth the $45 I payed at the time, however I am not sure about paying $100 for it. You can get it through RCA for $58. Overall a great buy!
Not bad for the price.......2006-09-07
I am a college student and this gadget is perfect for tranfering files as well as storing all of my homework. Better yet is the capability of storing my music and use it as an MP3 player. It hangs weightlessly from my neck and the sound is GREAT. Not bad for the price.
be carefull .......2006-07-13
I purchased this devcie and have had nothing but problems with it. The moment I got it out of the box it started resetting. I thought ok maybe it needs an upgrade. Looked on RCA.com to see if there is a firmware upgrade. Did it....loaded music and same thing. Well trying to get a hold of the RCA to do a warrenty exchange is impossible, well I am getting a refirb one now, lets see how this works. Good luck all....needless to say I a shopping for another devcie, that just left a bad taste in my mouth.

The battery system needs rethinking........2007-12-13
My battery pack would not charge, strait out of the new box. The phone number led only to confution.
Read on..........2007-11-01
I picked up one of these for our bedroom for twenty five (with a discount coupon). It's great looking radio with good reception and above average sound quality. It's also very easy to use and the built-in rechargable battery is a smart feature. Unfortunately, it has one critical flaw. The display is so bright that it's practically unusable at night time in a dark bedroom. Even in the dimmed state it lights up half the room. In addition, when the battery is charging, an extremely bright blue LED light (ever more overused in electronics these days) next to the power button keeps flashing until charging is complete. Unless you sleep in a very bright room (next to a street light) and have many night lights in your room, I would not recommend this radio. Perhaps a future R3 will replace the LED with an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust brightness. For the price I paid, I decided to keep it and use it in the garage.
poor reception, poor battery life, but nice sound quality.......2007-10-26
This radio has some very nice features to its credit---size, digital tuning, battery operation for portability,MP3 input, decent sound quality from the speaker, but the AM reception was horrible and the FM was not much better, even with the antenne. If your just interested in close local stations its fine. I purchase this mainly because of the portable use with the built in battery. After a week the battery would not hold a charge, I call customer service, and the tech told me the batteries were only meant to last a year????? I exchanged it for another r2, same battery problem same reception problems.
Really solid little player!.......2007-06-25
We use this in the office. Absolutely no complaints about it. For being such a small unit, it puts out a surprising amount of bass (which might be good or might be bad, depending on what you like).
nice clock radio.......2007-03-16
if you care about the sound of your 'wake-up-call' then this is the one. It looks good, price is right. But I won't pay more than 100$ like the MSRP. The 'discounted' price that I got (below 60) is fair, I would buy another one.

Customer Reviews:
Good looking, solidly-built radio puts Teac on the map in this category.......2005-10-19
I was in the market for a bedside clock radio with an AM/FM tuner, but without a CD player. Since this was a bed-side clock radio, I needed an illuminated display that was able to be seen at all times (without pressing a backlight), but wasn't so bright that it would disturb us while sleeping. My price criteria was $100-$150 and I compared the following three products: Teac R2, Boston Acoustics Recepter Radio and the Sangean RS-330.
Out of the box, the R2 impresses visually with it's `retro styled' design, solid feel and logical layout. Knobs and buttons feel great and the plastics used for the case are of good quality.
Radio reception was good, with the extendable FM antenna pulling better than the built in AM antenna, but compared to the Recepter and RS-330, the R2 fell short on reception.
Sound quality was quite good. I tuned into strong FM and AM stations and plugged in my iPod to the aux jack and the sound was clear, had good mid strength and performed well with the adjustable bass and treble knobs, but will distort under high volume.
I ran into two issues with the R2 that prevented it from finding a permanent home in my room:
1. The LCD backlit display was too bright for use in a dark bedroom, it could illuminate items from 8 feet away and the R2 does not feature a brightness control. To top it off, when the radio is switched on, the display's brightness is actually increased, so listening to the radio while drifting off to sleep would be a difficult endeavor. Reviewing these products has convinced me that LCD backlighting should not be used for bedside clock radios at all.
2. The power cord is a separate unit featuring a transformer. I feel a clock radio should have an attached power cord to prevent it from getting lost in the sea of electronic power cords today.
PROS:
Great looks - nicely finished `retro look' scores big on aesthetic appeal
Aux input for your MP3 player
Good sounding speaker matches others in it's category
CONS:
Overall Performance lags behind others in this price range
Preset Buttons not logically operated
Separate power cord with transformer can become unplugged and lost
On/Off button has an LED light that flashes brightly when the internal battery is charging - this is an unnecessary disturbance
LCD display features no dimmer switch and (I feel) should not be used in total darkness
Setting the alarm takes more steps than necessary
SUMMARY:
The R2 is a great looking, solid performing clock radio that would be best used as a desk top unit where aesthetic appeal is important. It's price point would likely be more favorable if it were 30% less.
Compared directly to the Recepter and the RS-330: the Recepter likely has the best mono speaker available today, much better than the R2 but the Recepter suffers from okay reception, lack of functionality (no aux/headphone input, bass/treble adjustments), but has a pleasing `orange-green' LED number display. The RS-330 is an old school solid performer, with excellent reception, pleasing and useful LED display with brightness control, good sound, aux inputs and sells for $30-$60 less than the others compared here.
