I haven't used the photo/video features, but it works fine as far as playing mp3s, recording audio, and tuning fm radio. The biggest downside is the joystick, which sometimes skips to the next file when I'm just trying to fast forward a little in a podcast.
Unbeatable customer service from Cowon........2007-06-09
Boris Kandov's insightful review summarizes the technical aspects of this very capable multimedia player. However, my short review is primarily about Cowon's customer service.
I sent my X5 (60GB) back to Cowon to request a battery replacement - almost 50 weeks after the original purchase date, but within the warranty period.
They replaced the battery - free of charge - and sent it back on the very same day, even though the defect is related to the battery technology and not in anyway material to Cowon's design.
Kudos Cowon.

This is an excellent audio player! It plays most every type of compressed audio file, but is one of the few that includes support for lossless FLAC files. The hard drive is fair-sized and the included accessories are very generous: headphones, screen protectors, 12" audio connector cable, USB cable, and charger. The charger dongle/attachment includes ports for USB connections, line-out, and line-in feeds.
The design is very accessible, though the detachable USB and power connector/dongle does present the possibility for losing an important component. It is roughly the size of a RAZR phone, though about twice as thick.

i've owned several mp3 players previously including 60gb ipod. i was disappointed in all of them. most of them died shortly after the warranty expired, maybe they were made to be like that, i do not know. iaudio x5 is far better than any portable players ive had in the past.
1. it's very very very sturdy. once you hold it in your hands, you'll know right away.
2. it plays most audio files nicely. i have V0 mp3s in mine mostly but i did fill it up with some flac's as well. i use mine while i am driving, and i play my music LOUD. and thats when flac's show their true potentials and i appreciate this iaudio greatly.
3. it is very very very easy to use. just plug it into your computer, copy files or folders and put them in the iaudio folder. no need for some crappy softwares.
4. it displays lots of information on the screen. its something that is not totally necessary but it sure pleases my eyes.
5. the playing time is great. i do lots of navigation with mine, going back and forth from mp3s to flac's to ogg vorbis to so on, and it usually stays on for good 15 hours.
my only negative comment is on the head/earphones plug-in jack. i wish it was on top of the player, not on the left side. but its all good, i cant have everything my way.
ive recommended it to several friends of mine who were victims of crappy ipods. 4 of them purchased this since, and theyre all happy with it.
oh one more negative comment: dont know if its just me but the picture view quality is quite bad. i dont need it for pictures anyway so not a big concern for me =)

Disney Red and Yellow Clock Radio.......2004-10-03
Personally I like the red and yellow "suitable for boys or girls" alarm clock better with sounds of disney characters, splashing in the tub, in an old fashioned car honking a horn, multiple alarm clocks ringing,and goofy mumbling to himself "har har har". My daughter saw this one though and wanted to "trade me" for it. She loves princess anything and is willing to put up with all the giggling sounds.

I love the clock, but I expected better disney sounds. I like the harp to wake up to, but the giggling and such is not what I expected. Though the radio, clock, etc. is great high quality. I love the big snooze button.

Although the clock is cute, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. I was under the impression that the disney princess alarm sounds were actual songs. Instead, your 5 choices are a ringing bell with birds chirpping, someone giggling with a bell ringing, someone giggling with the ocean waves, someone saying la la la, and a magic wand sound. You also have the choice to wake up to the radio. Overall, the clock is OK, but it is not what I expected.
Awsome Clock Radio for the little Princess in every home........2003-06-12
We got this for my daughter, she is a Disney Proncess Nut, dresses like one, and wants to have anything, and everything Princess. (We hope it is just a phase, she used to be into Dinosaurs. It could be alot worse, and you are only a kid once so what the heck.) But it wakes you up to differnt recognizable Princess tunes. It is very durable, and well made, and looks great.
I don't know what else to say, it wakes her up in the morning, and at least for now, she is in a much better mood than when the buzzer or mom/dad woke her up.
I highly ecomend this product for your little Princess.

Pricey ringtones, company not upfront about no MP3 support.......2007-12-27
I could not find anywhere in their product literature or on their web site, that the Ringboxx doesn't support custom ring-tones. It isn't until you set up this device that you make that realization. I tried creating and importing a custom mp3 ring-tone and it will not work. Also you can only purchase ring-tones from the company that makes the Ringboxx at $2 - $3 a piece!! Again, you only get this info during the setup process. The Ringboxx doesn't come with a selection of included ring-tones like a cell does. The 10 credits that came with the Ringboxx were only enough to purchase 4 ring-tones. Not nearly enough for my needs. By the time I purchase a memory card and enough ring-tones, I will have spent more than the device cost (which apparently I overpaid through Amazon at $59. The manufacturer has it on their site for $39). I LOVE the idea, but had I known the expense and limitations, I would not have bought it. I have since found out there are phones (Panasonic to name one) available with "Talking Caller ID" for slightly more than I paid for the Ringboxx. I wish I would have gotten one of those instead. If I cannot return this product, I will NOT be buying more ringtones unless they drop SUBSTANTIALLY in price (everyone else charges about 99 cents). So for now I am stuck with only 4 ring-tones. If they fix the afore mentioned issues, I would recommend it. But until then, I don't recommend this product.

I agree with the other comment. You shouldn't have to pay two to three dollars for each additional ringtone - that you HAVE to buy from them - after buying THEIR product!! Why can't it just support MP3 files? Greedy gougers! What a disappointment!
No custom ringtones.......2007-12-26
What isn't clear from this product's description, or the manufacturer's web site, is that you have to buy your ringtones from them, and you can only use ringtones in their limited library. I hate that. I'd like to make my own ringtones so that I can use the same ringtones for callers on my cellphone and home phone, and so I can use a snippet of my caller's voice as their custom ringtone. It is really disappointing to me that this device has all the technology to make that easily possible, but they've restricted it to ringtones they sell. I love the concept of this device, but they've ruined it.

Basically, I bought this product, because I'm lazy, the phone rings and I run to the phone to see who is calling (caller Id) and then decide if I want to answer it or not, with Ringboxx, I just have to listen and I know who is calling, husband, sons, family etc. Its great. What I didn't expect was that my daughter (14) mentally retarded, recognizes the phone tunes and knows who is calling too! She never has had the opportunity to use the phone and now recognizing the tunes can answer the phone for the first time ever! She is now requesting more tunes for extended family members. If you should have a child or know of a child with limited abilities - this is a great product to expand their horizons! Pass the word!
