REVIEW: Exercise to your favorite tunes with the featherweight Nike psa[play60 digital audio player--weighing less than three ounces--which is compatible with both MP3 and WMA formats. It has 32 MB of flash memory, so your music won't skip no matter how hard you exercise. This amount of memory will hold approximately a half-hour of CD-quality MP3 music (encoded at 128 kbps) or one hour of WMA. It can also be expanded using MultiMedia Cards up to 64 MB. The round LCD displays song title, track number, and time. It comes with music management software for both Windows and Mac, and you can transfer files via USB 1.1.

The whole nike-phillips [SIC] thing has been discontinued, thank god.
I think this product's selling point was that they were rugged and you could sweat all over em and they still "work" (term used loosely). After returning my unit two times, I finally got a version that "worked." The saddest part of all is the fact that there is no random feature. In addition, all songs are played in the order that they were written to the device. These two *features* make the device seem cheap to me.
The device's CASE is built really well, but the electronics suck and I believe the headset is intentionally designed to break easily. It has two major weaknesses at either end of the cord and the plug protrudes about two inches out of the unit making it prone to bend and break there, not to mention weaken the soldered connectors inside the headset's port.
I have hated this product since I first bought it. I even got it at a closout price and felt I was ripped off. Ideally, it was a great idea. Realistically, it sucks very bad. Nike keeps getting worse by the minute.
Worst Product EVER!.......2004-05-03
I bought this thing awhile back because it was small, light, relatively inexpensive (at the time), and was moisture resistant, making for a potentially excellent workout MP3 player. I was BADLY mistaken; this product is inherently flawed. Rio repaired or replaced it no fewer than six times over a one year period; I have also personally repaired the player three additional times in the four months following. The headphones are total garbage; they broke the first time I wore them. Rio replaced them no fewer than SEVEN times. When turned off, the battery continues to be drained for some reason. Once you install a battery don't expect any more than ~24 hours of life out of it, tops, even if you don't actually turn on the player. The case is made of flimsy-feeling plastic. If you want to see track/playback info, you'll need the (clumsy) included remote control as the main unit has no LCD screen, and the remote is not lighted and has the world's smallest buttons. The player reportedly can use a CF card for memory expansion but (a) it won't use a larger-than-64MB card, and (b) card support is REALLY spotty. I've tried at least a half dozen cards and haven't found a single card that works consistently in the unit. I will never buy another Rio product again, EVER. The ONLY saving grace that this MP3 player has: When thrown against the surface of a pond, its rounded shape gave me 12 skips across the surface. My best throw yet.

Cludgy interface, Battery sucker, good plastic.......2004-01-05
The interface to upload music is terrible. Windows media player 9 receives errors everytime I tried to upload new music. Put in new firmware to fix the battery sucking problem and it has not helped. I have a CD player that gets longer time on one battery than this piece of junk. The display is so tiny as to be useless. Stay away...Far away. I felt like a sucker buying this thing. The only redeeming quality is it feels nice.

what i was looking for was something durable that i could run with, bike with, and basically never have to think about. it just plain worked. i had this little guy for over two years, took it on a bike trip across canada, dropped it on pavement several times, had it soaked by rain several over & over again. finally, after one too many rainy days, it packed it in (but as of yet, i have yet to find a waterproof mp3 player).
here's what i didn't like:
- the headphones were rediculously uncomfortable and i bought new ones immediately
- i never see the point of remote controls, so i just never used it & can't comment on it
- periodic difficulties usually caused by a malformed mp3 that would play fine on my computer but not on the mp3 player
- the software isn't the greatest, but it does the trick
however, to me, the *only* thing i'm concerned about is durability & battery life. i was very impressed with both. i should also mention that it has a lock so that none of the buttons get pressed accidentally while you're riding/running.
