Customer Reviews:
Be very careful.......2007-10-16
Be very very careful when purchasing anything from Visioneer. I have owned a One Touch 9220 scanner for about 4 years, and just learned they will not support it, and there will be no drivers for Vista. Not only that, but because the scanner is out of production, I had to call a #@%^%& 900 number and PAY to find out I had been ripped off. Visioneer's level of corporate greed exceeds belief. If you ever think you might have to upgrade your computer, I would advise finding a company which supports its products.
Poor software, cannot run as limited user.......2006-03-15
I have had no hardware problems with the two 9650s I have in the office, but the software bundled with this scanner is terrible (at least on XP). (1) There's a broken online registration stage during the install, which wants you to register but then can't connect to the server; (2) possibly related to 1, the scanner is not detected when you are asked to plug the USB cable in, despite what the docs say - you just have to click finish and hope it is detected after reboot; (3) DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT to set this thing up for a limited user. Textbridge won't work. You need to be at least a power user. Even then, you have to make sure you run every piece of software in the bundle, especially ScanDirect, first, as admin, before you can do so as power user. (4) other fun problems with this software include the mysterious presence of two Visioneer TWAIN drivers in every 'select scanner' list, only one of which works, a weird problem where all scans from within Acrobat 7 came out inverted (white on black) after running the TextBridge setup utility, the TWAIN interface previewing fine, but refusing to scan, the TWAIN interface ignoring what you set as paper source (flatbed or ADF) and color/bw settings and doing whatever it wants, with no recourse. I have reinstalled this entire package once on for one of the scanners, and three times for the other.
I have been doing IT support work for over 5 years, and consider myself reasonably competent. I acknowledge that most of these problems probably originate in trying to run this software as a non-administrator (although obviously I installed them as admin) but come on, this is hardly an unusual situation. Stay away from this thing.
Broke down after 3 months.......2004-08-17
The ADF motor burned up and melted the plastic after 3 months. After numerous aggravated phone calls to visioneer tech support, they sent a replacement that is a refurbished one. The light on the refurbished model now takes a whole 1 minute to warm up. So I'm sick of calling into visioneer tech, went out and bought a fujitsu scanner, more expensive but much better quality.
Save money and buy Xerox 510.......2004-06-02
This is a decent scanner with respectible specification. It works as well as comparible scanners on the market and includes a good software bundle. But do yourself a favor and buy the Xerox Documate 510 if you like this scanner. It is the exact same hardward/software bundle with a different name on the front for almost half the cost.
customer support.......2003-12-31
I purchased this scanner, and it worked fine until one day the document feeder stopped working. For a few months I thought It was something I was doing, and worked around it. I finally called tech support, and was told I was out of warranty. Said ok, I will pay to get my ADF fixed. They do not fix anything. If you are out of warranty, you are stuck. Connected to Customer support, same thing. Can you imagine buying a car, and after a year, the tranny went bad, you were told you have to buy a new car because they do not fix cars over a year old. This is the type of company that has made us a disposable society. How can you charge $600.00 dollars, then when it breaks, tell the people to buy a new one. Something stinks with this logic.

Customer Reviews:
The worst consumer product I have ever bought.......2007-11-14
This is a classic example of General Electric's vaunted six sigma philosophy. It is clearly a six sigma product...six sigmas in bad design:
-It has 10 number memory dialing, but you can only enter the number, not the name that goes with it. You want to call your good friend Taylor? Good luck which memory location you stored the number in.
-A mentioned by others, the cord situation is a disaster.
-I bought this in Argentina, where I am currently living, but the caller ID appears to have been set up to only work in the U.S.
-It practically falls out of the cradle if you so much as look at it.
-The battery case does not stay open.
-No clue in the instructions how to set the date and clock.
In my entire life I cannot recall a single consumer product that I felt was more of a waste of money than this. When I buy from GE from now on, I'll stick to light bulbs.
This is a DREADFUL phone.......2007-10-03
I don't how well it works, but I DO know that everything is HARD CORDED as in you can't replace the cords. You can't make the line connecting the jack longer without adding a connector (which never works) and you can't modify the base to handset cord, either. GE made a phone that you buy and have to use within 6 feet or so of your jack. If you're using it as a wall phone, you'd have about 18 inches of mobility.
Phone Works Fine For Me.......2007-05-27
I've had this phone for years. I keep it in my bedroom, just to have a phone handy. I have several cordless phones, but I bought this phone so I would still have phone service in case of power failure. The only problem that I noticed when I first bought the phone was that the cord is welded into the phone, and can't be removed. If you want to lenghten the cord you can't use a regular phone cord, you will need to buy a phone extension cord. Then, plug the phone cord into the phone jack at one end of the extension cord, and then plug the other end of the extension cord into your wall phone jack. I did this and had no other problems. As far as batteries go, most all corded phones that have Caller ID will need some type of battery. You will need to buy your own batteries. The batteries time was sufficient for me, and I only used cheap no-name batteries.
Great phone except a battery hog.......2007-02-18
I have used one of these phones for over 3 years. The sound quality is good. The caller id function works well.
The only problem is that it uses 4 AA batteries every few months. Unless you use rechargeable batteries, you will spend more on batteries than on the phone itself. However, this is true of all corded phones that I have owned with caller id, and we have several. Many years ago, I owned a stand alone caller id display that used 1 AA battery that lasted well over a year, so why are these such battery hogs? Manufacturers should display average battery life on the box along with the number of batteries it uses.
Buy Anything But This Phone..........2006-09-23
We bought 2 of these phones and I have never encountered a worse waste of money in my life. On top of what the first person said may I add that the battery compartment NEVER stays closed and if you miss hanging it up by one miniscule your phone is off the hook. Have always liked GE products but this has sent me looking to other companies...
