Ameriphone Dialogue XL-25s Telephone.......2007-12-31
The XL-25s telephone with voice (output) control and hearing (input) control is a true "solution"! My father has COPD with low voice volume and is difficult to understand when talking on a normal phone. I searched everywhere for a telephone (or phone part) that could increase the volume of his speaking voice so that I could hear him without asking for repetition; he does not need audio amplification but it's there if he ever does (and he can turn it down if someone speaks too loudly!). R. Berry's comment was most helpful, but I found that setting the switch on the bottom of the phone to AUTO does not require the person to push the blue button to amplify his voice each time he uses the phone - if more than one user, the other can turn down the volume for normal speech and the one with low voice output can slide the slider to a louder position to fit the needs of the listener. A friend was so impressed with my tests before giving this phone to my father that he is getting one for his grandfather who has emphysema and can not speak loudly enough to be clearly understood on the phone. Other features make this a boon to those who have difficulty hearing or being heard when using a land line telephone. I highly recommend this item or one like it - check the input & output decibel levels to ensure amplification meets your needs.

My father has Parkinson's. If you know anyone with this disease you may know that their voices can lower substantially as the disease progresses and it is hard to hear them speak.We live in different states and I was feeling more and more out of touch because I couldn't communicate with him over the phone. This is one of the only phones I have found that has an amplification for the outgoing voice. The only problem is you have to press the button to activate it and my dad has a little problem with locating that, but if my mom's around to help with the process, it goes smoothly and I can hear him much better. This is a great tool for anyone who would like to increase the volume of their own voice as they speak to people on the phone.

This phone was a little frustrating to set up. The basics are very easy but to add names and numbers the phone doesnt give you enough time and you have to start over to do your inputting.
I like to turn off my ringer when I sleep. The headset has a ringer and instructions to turn it off were clear. As I slept I heard the ringer go off. WTH, it must be coming from the base??? No instructions there. Called Vtech and the first agent mentioned the base asking me to pick it up... as I picked it up the cord came out disconnecting the call! I called back and the next agent had no clue where the ringer on the base was - actually stating that the base had NO ringer.
I made sure that when the phone rang the next time I knew where the ringer was coming from and it was the base. I called again and found an agent that knew exactly where the ringer was and how to turn it off the base.
The space for your ear is very small and your ear must be just against this small space or you will hear nothing. I am thinking of getting an ear piece to plug in and see if that would bring up the volume.
Overall, for the price, a good phone that could use some louder sound and clearer detailed instructions or agents that know their products.

Should have realized by the price that this was not a wise choice.
Does not register Caller ID every time. Had my sister call and does not register. Also called from my cell phone-nothing. Also did not set time on handset when received first call.
Tech person unable to solve problem so returned to XP Passport. Still waiting for credit.

I had bought this phone two years ago.....same company, same model. I couldn't help but notice that the quality of the casing is not the same. It is not as well made as my original phone and feels very lightweight. However, it still has the same great features. My favorite is the ability to turn off the ringer which many phones, even the much more expensive, do not allow. The clarity of the phone is very good. Not a bit of static. It isn't expensive, but with a large family, expensive can be costly. It's already been dropped twice in the first week and it's fine.
