great idea, bad technology.......2007-12-09
i ordered this product thinking it would be a blast for a party i was hosting. good thing i checked it out right away or i would have been embarassed at my party. griffin tech. great idea, bad technology. i think they need to take it of shelfs for a while, put some more time into it, then rerelease it and hopefully then it will function properly.

This is a good product for extremely amateur singer. Great for the car though so long as you music isn't too loud (alot of feedback if it is). At home I couldn't find a long enough cord to get away from the speakers so I wouldn't get any feedback so I bought an extension cable from Wal-Mart and that solved the problem. If you use the FM modulator you have to be pretty close to the stereo and that picks up some feedback. Also, the mic picks up alot of breathing noises so I put some foam from some cheap headphones over it secured with a rubber band. You think at the price it would have something over the mic to stop excessive noise. All-in-all though its a fun product and with some tweeking you can have alot of fun.

I found this product to be poor in quality, with extremely limited reception. The return policy with BuilderDepot will charge me a 15% handling fee plus the additional cost to ship it back. I will keep product but will not shop BuilderDepot again. You get what you pay for. Next time I will know better.

battery life is great. works and sounds like a charm if you get a reception. however, the tuner is weak. needs better reception for popular philadelphia radio stations like 94.1 fm, 950am, and 1060am.
bottom line is that u get what you pay for.

I was up at my cousins house and she had one so I thought i would check it out. It's really a cool phone. When you open it, it looks like the inside of spongbob! You listen thru his brain and talk thru his pants. The numbers are on the back along with the on button (which I found was odd that you had to turn it on with a button.) He has feet and arms so he can sit or stand. I give this item a 4 star!

Good for price.......2007-12-30
I bought Maxx Digital Explorer I from Office depot.My decision was price driven. Model is well design, comes with MP3 and picture viewer. GPS works fine and tell in advance where to take a turn. battery life is good. Rerouting is good.
Pros : Well design compact model, MP3 and picture viewer)
Cons :Weak network in downtown(it take a long time to connect with satellite) But if GPS is on before entering downtown it works fine.

I got this gps at Office Depot.
Upsides: I've tested it out on about 7 different trips (all of them I was familiar with already) I took in NY and can say the audible turns and what not it told me to take were nearly flawless. It only once told me to turn in the wrong direction (I assume it would've recalculated after the screwup if I headed where it told me to). I often purposefully deviated from the turns it told me to take on these trips and it always recalculated instantaneously. The map and tracking feature on the device are clear and well labeled. Mp3 player seems to work fine.
Some downsides to this thing its slow loading into and throughout the navigation mode (where you enter where you want to go), it's pokey acquiring a gps signal after waking from sleep mode or initial boot up, no text to speech (meaning it won't actually say aloud the actual road name), but for this price I really can't complain there. The eBook reader only seems to read .txt files and it skips a line or two every time you scroll to the next page (an email to the company went unanswered on this issue). Other nuisances are the lack of a physical volume control on the gps itself and non-intuitive control to get to it within the software.
As far as support for this device goes, I'm not feelin' too confident that I'll be getting much of it after looking at the manufacturer's owner's manual and quality of their website. That's the risk you get going cheap and with a little known brand, I guess. Getting updated maps or those in other regions (only the 48 states appear loaded on the included SD card) requires sending an email to an obscure email address listed in the literature. There's no option to download from their website.
Another note: Although there is a usb jack on the thing, Windows XP was unable to find a driver for it (the manufacturer provides no drivers or apparently any instructions on how to use it with a PC). Therefore, in the end, the usb seems to charge the internal battery.
