The GPS Companion provides GPS navigation information and detailed street maps of the entire United States. The information transferred is in standard NMEA 2.1 format and will work with many Palm OS GPS and mapping software applications.
The Map Companion CD-ROM contains detailed nationwide street map coverage, divided into over 20,000 county and city files. With these detailed street maps, the GPS Companion can plot your location and enable you to navigate nearby roads, intersections, and selected points of interest.
The CD-ROM also contains NAV Companion software, which provides you with comprehensive navigation information, including an analog speedometer, a digital compass, and waypoint and route management capabilities. I have used this module in private and commercial aircraft, on battery and using a 12v vehicle adaptor.
It works very well within the limitations of which-ever software that one runs.
Good Value - espcially if you use any of the other modules such as the music-player.
get updates from magellan website for map display, etc........2003-06-30
do NOT use firmware update - it trashed my GPS and I had to hassle an exchange.
So, DON'T load ANYTHING from the CD included EXCEPT MAPS - and do THAT after you load all the updates from the MFG website, EXCEPT DO NOT use the update labeled "gps updater" that they tell you to download to the unit - delete it - do not run it.
You will be VERY happy with the new software for GPS and MAPS.

Magellan GPS for Visor.......2003-06-17
The Magellan GPS for the Visor works like a champ and I'm very pleased with it. The navigation program that comes with it however, is not very good in details and accuracy. Using it, it gives you the impression that you are off the street you are on. I first thought it was the GPS receiver's fault but it turns out it's the map's fault. I now use the Mapopolis program and the GPS position is spot on with Mapopolis map.
It should be noted that due to the Visor limitation, there's no program I know of that would gives you voice prompt. Without prompts, the utility of using this device for navigation is not that good. The screen is too small to use the Visor as the sole navigator. I find that you still need a paper map. None of this is the magellan GPS fault. In itself, it works great!

I recently had a chance to test this unit "in the wild" when I spent a week hiking in Yosemite Valley, doing extended hikes each day. In a nutshell, this unit gets a thumbs down. Although it behaved reasonably well on my first hike I found the following problems towards the end of that hike and on most subsequent hikes:
It frequently lost it's fix on the satellites. It could take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes to re-establish a connection.
Several times on each hike, it powered down my Visor with no indication that it had done so. I'd take the unit out to look at how my tracklog was going only to find it had missed a big chunk of it.
After one of these powerdowns, when I turned the unit back on, it typically took a VERY long time to relink to the satellites...10-15 minutes was not uncommon and, in one case, I gave up and just packed the unit away after an hour of waiting.
Some of the software is pretty cool in concept but very buggy in execution. On my first hike, I recorded Waypoints at every significant point of interest on the hike. At the end of my 6.5 mile hike, I told the unit to convert the tracklog to a Route. It auto-generated a ton of it's own waypoints (understandable given that this was a very twisty, windy route) but it didn't use any of the ones I had recorded and, when it was done, it told me that the 6.5 mile route was now 19.5 miles long!
... this unit here says he got up to 8 hours on a set of batteries. While that's nominally about right based on my experience, I also found that if the batteries were used for more than about 3 or 4 hours, there was a very noticeable decrease in the unit's ability to keep a fix on the satellites.
My impression of this unit went from "REALLY COOL" upon first powering it up to "I WANT MY MONEY BACK" within the first couple of times I used it. ...
A final thought to consider...the Springboard concept is cool but do you really need your Visor to do everything? Certain specialized tasks are just better done by a dedicated unit

The receiver seems to work sometimes, but not as well as some other GPS models that are not part of a PDA. It's also pretty difficult to figure out. The help files are on a PC, not on the PDA. I'm not happy about buying this.

I found this Bell'O TV tilting wall mount to be all that it said it was. Plenty of parts, easy to install and mount, and plenty strong. Could be a little easier to access and adjust the tilt function.
Excellent product; disappointing DVD........2007-12-22
I don't write a lot of reviews, but I thought I'd write this one since no one has reviewed this item yet. I decided to consider the Bell'O after seeing them in our local high end video store. They are the brand that store pushes. This particular one sells there for about $150. It's often about $130 at other internet sources, so Amazon's price is very good. I was looking forward to the instructional DVD, but it was a bust and wouldn't play. Something wrong in the codec. I tried playing it on three different DVD players, and four different computers. On some, it just wouldn't play at all. On others, I got the menu system and then it herked and jerked through the instruction in a way that gave you just a snippet of dialogue and a frozen image (with artifacts) every 30 seconds or so. So I gave up on the DVD. But the manual is very good (in very small print). We forged ahead without the visual DVD instruction.
The key to installing this (as any unit) is measuring carefully, accurately locating the studs in your wall, leveling carefully, and making sure you've determined just where you want it to go. I used a Black and Decker electronic stud finder and laser level for the first time, and it was a terrific aid. Everything went perfectly, although it did take much longer than I expected to find the studs, do the measuring with care, etc. But once I was ready to drill holes, it all went together nearly effortlessly.
The Bell'O is well made, the black unit is nicely finished. The end caps are a very nice touch. The TV moves freely right and left (although moving it too much would reveal the bracket on the wall, so with the size of our TV, the range is about 4 inches either direction off center). It slides so effortlessly right and left that it seems as though it is floating. Very smooth and impressive. I don't know if we needed the tilt mechanism -- we put it in the zero position (so it can still till up about 5 degrees and down 10 degrees or more). It seems tilted down about 5 degrees in what they call the 0 position, and that is perfect for our installation. So at least for us, we could have gone with the non-titling model just fine. It came with every possible screw, washer, and spacer needed for just about any recent TV model (check the Bell'O cite for compatibility). Out of the hardware store's worth of stuff they sent, I used four simple washers and four simple screws and the arms mounted perfectly to our 40" Toshiba flatscreen LCD. All I have to do now is figure out what to do with the cords. I didn't want to mess with trying to run them down the wall, so I'm probably going to go with a "Wiring Solution" cable cover, which you can get directly throuhg Crutchfield, or through Amazon (using Crutchfield or a couple of other 3rd party vendors).
All in all, I'm totally pleased with the Bell'O. I compared it to Peerless and Omnimount, and I think the Bell'O is equally good. I bought it in part for the DVD, which was worthless, but which I didn't really need anyway. So I highly recommend this to any of you needing a wall mount of this kind in this size range.

Attractive Phone But Lacks Features.......2007-12-28
I bought these set of phones to update a set of Uniden phones I've been very happy with over the last 3 years.
Admittedly, I bought these phones because of the color display and attractive design. Sadly, I'm disappointed by the lack of features that I'm use to with the comparatively priced Uniden system.
Pros: Color Display, Sound Quality, Range, straight forward interface, clock sets itself, automatic global update (changes made on one handset take effect on all).
Cons: Unable to access answering machine from handsets, display hard to read at many angles, unable to assign ring tones to phone numbers, limited ring tones and wallpaper choices, bulky handsets.
concerns: The LCD display on the handsets, when placed in the charger, is on (dimly) at all times so that the clock is visible. This is wonderful since it means the clock on the display is visible at all times, however this is a low quality LCD display and will likely burn out over time.
Overall, the phones look attractive and easy to use, but I would not recommend choosing this phone over the Unidens just for the color display. If you like features and a more compact package with a more practical LCD display, this phone may not be the right choice for you. I am tempted to return the sets but I have enough rooms to keep both systems around.
There is nothing wrong with the phone, in fact I would recommend it to the technologically challenged user, but I'm looking for a few more advanced features to make the phones work to my expectations.

I've had my VTech phone for a couple of weeks now. I haven't had any problems with it. I really love the feature to where I can call up to my daughter's room with the intercome system, instead of yelling up the stairs for her. All you do is press the, "INT" button on the bottom of the phone & put in the handset # your calling to.
The only disappointment I have with this phone is that I wish it would have more wall paper displays & more ring tone options. Other than that, I haven't had any problems so far.

I was disappointed with this system once getting it home.
Pros: Nice looking system, speaker phone and mute buttons on each handset, volume buttons on the side of the phone versus the face, ability to select different wallpapers and ringers for each handset, and of course the expandability.
Cons: Conversations kept cutting out, the resolution of the color LCD was not as high as I had expected, unable to name each handset, and limited ring tones and wallpapers.
Overall, this system wasn't all that it could be for the price I paid and will be returning it today. I am now looking at purchasing the Uniden CLX485 and hope that it will better suit my... wants.
