I find it difficult to remove the GPS (the rubber covered buttons on the GPS drag on the carrying case interior) in the field and the case is too soft; it's easy to inadvertently turn the GPS on by leaving against something with it between the body and the "something". After I purchased this carrying case and found a number of camera cases at the local drug store camera counter that, while not "form fitting" for the GPS, are a much better choice. After ordering the carrying case and paying the shipping costs I'd have to say the it's not a particularly good value, all things considered.
Not a lot to say, but..........2003-04-20
This carrying case is well-made and quite durable - it fits on a belt properly too. The one rather strange thing about it is that it seems a little big for the unit it is intended for. It could have been made smaller and still fitted the Meiridan GPS with room to spare. It's also a bit expensive for what you get.
Good basic case.......2003-02-06
It's a basic rectangular padded case - about 8 x 3.5 x 1.5 inches, single compartment, with a 3 inch belt loop on the back. The package says this case fits a Meridian GPS and 4 AA batteries. It does, but the batteries are just loose in the bottom of the case. The Meridian is pretty rugged on its own, but this case is just the thing to keep the screen from getting scratched up. And it is nice to have spare batteries in the same place as the GPS. Also, the case is roomy enough so you could probably slip one or two folded map printouts or geocache descriptions in it as well.
On the other hand, because it has all that room it is a little bulky to wear on the belt. If that's what you want to do then you might look for a smaller generic case instead.

a phone that does everything I need, and a lot more.......2007-12-31
I have been using this Panasonic cordless phone system (KX-TG8231B, with NO extra handset) for about a month, and I'm happy with it. It does everything I need, plus a lot more. The phone is easy to set up, and it recommends 7 hours of charge before initial use. The phone displays "Charge Complete" each time when the charge is full. The design is stylish, and it has a lot of features of a cell phone, such as color screen, phone book, speaker, ringtones, wallpaper, etc.
PROS:
- Wi-Fi/Bluetooth friendly: this phone comes with DECT 6.0 technology with 1.9 GHz range. I have found NO interfere with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cell phone.
- Long battery life: the phone comes with 2 AAA size Ni-MH batteries. Each battery has 550 mAh. According to official, the battery provides up to 17 hours of talk time. I only need a phone that can last 2, 3 hours, so I will never have to worry about battery life.
- Great sound clarity: the sound clarity on this phone is without question. It also has great speaker, which is very useful. You can listen to voice messages directly from the handset, not just from the base station. The handset also has a headphone jack, which might be useful to some people.
- Caller ID: as long as your phone service company provides Caller ID feature for your number.
- Light weight and small size: both handset and base station are light. The handset feels comfortable in hand. The base station is very small, and can be fit in tight space.
- Mute button: I found the mute button can be useful in some situations. Once you press it, the other side can no longer hear any sound from your side. Press again to unmute, and the call continues.
- Handset expandability: the phone network can be expanded up to 6 handsets, and you can make internal (intercom) calls between between handsets.
*I only have one handset, thus I don't know how well the intercom works.
CONS:
I haven't found a real CON on this phone, but just a few imperfections. Almost nothing is perfect.
- The phone has a glossy and shiny surface, which looks nice. However, it's pretty vulnerable to scratches. You should use a damp microfiber cloth to clean the surface. The surface also attracts oil and fingerprint easily.
- The answering machine has a 18-minute record time, and I believe each message can be no more than 3 minutes long. 18 minutes might be a little bit short if you leave home for vacation for several weeks or a few months...
- The phone has limited customization, which makes the color screen not so useful. There are only 3 wallpapers you can choose. But thankfully, there are plenty ringtones to choose.
- The screen has 2 brightness level, high and low. The LCD screen backlit light is always on low level when the handset is plug-in on base station, even when it is idle. I believe the reason for that is to help you find the handset easily in darkness, usually during night time. But that might shorter the handset's life, even tho the brightness is on low level. Since the phone has "insane" battery life, I usually leave it beside the base station, rather than on the base station.
- this is not really a con, but it would be nice if it has built-in VOIP feature. I can't complain about it for this price.
