Great GPS.......2007-12-31

I had originally gotten a TomTom Go 720, which I thought to be a great piece of equipment. The only problem being, that it's Bluetooth function wouldn't work with my CDMA Sprint phone. So, I returned it for the Garmin nuvi 660. The FM transmitter is decent. The Bluetooth function is exceptional. The mic/speaker works great, and the mapping software is pretty decent
Also, I was able to get quick satellite fixes from within my house (10-15' from the windows)

Pros:
*Car mount allows for one step installation. Power is delivered through the mount, therefore no need to detach from mount and unplug several cables, everytime you get in and out of the car.
*Turns on/off with car power.
*Bright screen for good sunlight read-ability.
*GPS function can be turned on/off to save battery usage.
*Bluetooth/speaker phone is crystal clear.

Cons:
*Menus not very intuitive. (TomTom interface wins here)
*Processing speed should have been a little faster. Mapping feature a little jerky.
*Clunky antenna must be flipped out for GPS usage. Not ideal for shoving in a pocket.
*Text-to-Voice feature needs improvement. Hard to understand. I end up just looking at the screen to read to directions.

Hardware winner: Garmin nuvi 660 - Pops in and out of car easily.
Software winner: TomTom Go 720 - Intuitive menus run seamlessly. (If my phone would have worked with the TomTom, I would have kept it.)

Product Description

MapTrack is a PalmOS application to generate and display vector based maps on the Palm screen. You can enter your longitude and latitude coordinates and a crosshair display will show your exact position on the map. If have an NMEA enabled GPS connected, it automatically get your coordinates from the GPS and display it as a crosshair on the map. But please note that a GPS is not required to use this program. Click anywhere on a map to instantly get the latitude and longitude of that point. Measure distance and heading between two points on the map by simply clicking on them. Distance can be shown in meters, kilometers, miles, feet or nautical miles. Headings is always in true north. Waypoints can also be easily added to any map using a special built- in waypoint lookup database. You generate your own maps for any location in the world by simply downloading the vector data for that area from a special internet website called the Worldwide NOAA Coastline Extractor (see included documentation for details). You generate the maps directly on the PDA or you can use a special freeware program called MapMaker.exe to generate your maps on a PC. (MapMaker.exe is bundled with the MapTrack download). A map can be as detailed or as simple as you require and can cover a very small area such as farm or a plot or it can cover an entire continent.
