OK for DECT, poor display and Caller ID.......2007-11-23
I got one at the local Circuit City, as the only DECT phone w/o an answering machine I could find.
I agree with other reviewers: this is a marginal phone. The LCD blue-on-blue is very hard to read from a distance or an angle. The phone works fine, but the Caller ID on the remote handsets is very unreliable. It displays "INCOMPLETE DATA" about 70% of the time. I called tech support, getting the usual clueless Indian who worked from a script. I tried resetting the phones by disconnecting the battery, returning to factory defaults, and disconnected every other phone. Same result.
Sorry, Circuit City, this one goes back; Caller ID and readability are too important to me. I should have come to Amazon first and read the reviews!
Do not Confuse "Interference" with "Audio Quality".......2007-11-10
After moving into a house, I thought I'd give cordless phones another try, hoping the problems experienced in apartment life would not apply.
I bought and love AT&T's 2.4 Ghz cordless phone (comes w/ 2 handsets). The only interference I ever had was when standing next to the microwave. Other than that, callers could not tell I was on a cordless phone. The voices sound rich and natural.
Wanting to find an expandable system, the only one I could find where the price and features were right was this phone-- GE's "6.0". I even ordered extra handsets so I have a total of 4. To their credit, there is no discernable interference-- standing next to the microwave causes no change in audio quality. BUT, the audio quality to begin with is absolutely terrible. I find myself having to apologize to everyone I talk to after they complain / ask, "What's that noise?".
In conclusion, don't buy these phones. I stupidly unpackaged and recycled the boxes these came in or they'd be on their way back to Amazon. I now am back on the market for an expandable system, probably from AT&T. From what I read, GE just shouldn't be making cordless phones. They should stick to medical equipment...

1980's-Style Memory Feature.......2007-09-16
I thought this would be nice phone that had the features I wanted, without a raft of useless "features" that would get in my way. That was true--the phone works quite well in almost all respects. It has one serious design flaw however: it can remember up to 50 phone numbers for you, but you have to manually store each of them in a numbered memory location. Want to call "Jane"? You have to either remember which memory number you stored her phone number in (was it #29? or #16?), or you have to scroll through all the memories in memory number order (NOT alphabetical order). Want to store a new number? First you have to scroll through all the memory locations to find a vacant one to store the new number in.
Come on, GE, I haven't seen a phone that worked this way in decades!

I wanted a phone with the following features:
- didn't interfere with home WiFi network
- had a headset jack on the handset
- had a mute button
- had an answering machine
- could keep good quality while roaming 1 or 2 rooms away
I tried two sets of GE 6.0 phones, and both suffered from faint, tinny, clipped audio. Words that were perfectly understandable on other phones were simply not there on this one. Also, the buttons aren't actually lit - the light is a ring around each button, but not the button itself. So it actually makes it HARDER to read individual buttons in a darkened room.
I was very disappointed in this phone.
Of those I tried: GE, Uniden, Panasonic and AT&T, the Panasonic was the best. All features work, Panasonic audio is good, and the buttons and beeps are nice and responsive. Only complaint about the Panasonic is that there is no display on the base unit to show how many answering machine messages are waiting.

I bought this phone before reading the reviews and that will never happen again! I was just out shopping and wanted to replace the cordless phone I already had since it didn't have an answering machine.I can't believe I spent almost $100 on this junky phone!I hooked and chared it up and pressed the talk button and could already hear static just with the dial tone! I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that I have dsl or what but whatever the reason it is totally unacceptable for such an expensive phone.After I heard the staticy dial tone I tried calling from my cell phone to test the answering machine.It was so staticy I couldn't understand a word! At least with the less expensive Uniden I had it was only staticy when I would run the microwave.So I boxed this ge phone back up,re-hooked up my old uniden(It is sad that a phone that cost 1/2 as much and is 2 years older than this GE works better!) and took it back.Please don't waste your money on this phone,you will not be able to hear on it.

Despite the bad reviews I decided to keep this phone set and bought two additional expandable units. This thing has bells and whistles I probably will never use like the do not disturb and room monitoring features - but when you break it down to the basics - it rings, it takes and play messages, it's clear, no static - a big plus. I can walk upstairs and downstairs and outside. I had a GE phone set in the past and it was reliable but became outdated as we needed more phones. One thing that does bother me is the loudness of the handset - I can't always hear the caller if I have kids being noisy in the background. It would be nice to be able to turn up the handset volume like you can do on a cell phone. Instead, I need to move to a quieter space then I'm fine. So should you buy it - if you are a risk taker and not very hard to please, go for it. Otherwise, you better keep shopping!
Good phone with two minor problems.......2007-05-03
We love the baby monitor function and use it all the time. The phone sound quality is quite good. For $98 we have three phones and an answering machine.
I only have two problems with this system:
1) The "do not disturb" feature could have been great: it stops all noise from the phones and answering machine (incl. outgoing message, caller's message, etc) with one button. HOWEVER, it does not stop the beep every 10 sec letting you know you have a message. How silly.
2) The outgoing message sound quality is poor / muddy.
Other than that I am fairly pleased with this system.

I like the phone...if only it would ring. We made about three outgoing calls to test the sound quality and the speaker phone which was all fine. Unfortunately, on incoming calls, the phones won't ring and the answering machine won't answer! Gee, GE we have a problem. No, I don't have it on "Don't Disturb".
The interface isn't terrible although they do need a way to exit menus gracefully other than pressing the talk button. I like the 50 position memory which is easy to use and the incoming call list is easy to read and review, unlike my previous GE phone. Unfortunately, after following all the proper set up and double-checking everything, the phones won't ring. Ever. They light up for an incoming call but won't ring. I missed a lot of phone calls that first afternoon until I discovered the problem. The answering machine won't answer the calls either. Another oops. I'm back to my old GE phone and separate answering machine because they ring and answer respectively. Customer service tried to help me out at the 1-800 number but I think this is all going back into the box to be returned. Pain and no gain.
Bad phone.......2007-03-08
I ordered this phone hoping it would surpass the 7 year old Panasonic phone i have, however, I was very disappointed! The LCD is sooo bright that you cannot even see the CID name! The speaker phone is terrible! You have to hold the phone to your ear just so the person on the other line can hear you... There is also no battery indicator on the headset. I am notorious for forgetting to hang the phone up to charge and it is helpful when their is an indication as to when the battery is going to die. The one great thing about the phone are the various ring tones that you can choose. However, I could not figure out how to select the "VIP" ring tones for specific people. Over all, I would suggest spending a little more money on something else.

Dependable, plastic, not professional sound.......2007-06-05
Overall, this is a good investment for beginning videographer. It works as described, yet I found that it's sound needed post work if it was going to be presaentable. My standards are not unrealistic, yet I was disappointed when I first worked with this mic. It comes with a lavalier mic, and a handheld. Of the two, the handheld pickup better, and is more manageable. Both only record in mono, so you have to set your camera to place the signal on the two channels, or do so in postproduction.
Still, if you wish to use a mic that is dependable, is inconspicuous, and has a small learning curve, this mic could serve your purposes.
Good for the Price.......2007-05-09
I bought this to work with my camcorder. It is not a stereo microphone, so the sound is on only one side, but since I'm using Sony Vegas 7 + DVD Production Suite to do my video editing, it hardly matters. Only two radio frequencies are available. This is fine for what I do, since I don't expect there will be anyone else using either of these frequencies near where I am working and I don't expect to use more than two at a time.

Despite the claim that both units take AA batteries, the unit we recieved takes 9V Batteries. That is somewhat annoying because one of the reasons we bought this model was because of the AA battery usage as advertised. Will review performance when we've had a chance to use it.

I purchased this to work with my DV-Camera for some amature projects. I found the sound quality to do some amature videos. I was surprised at the great sound quality and ended up using it for some professional projects as well. The batter life also is pretty impressive. I do not think I have changed out the batteries in over 20 hours of use.
Not bad for the price.......2006-08-25
Affordable and effective. Didn't pick up a lot of background music or talking, and got a good deep sound from the person wearing it. Used it for a wedding and the other wireless systems used didn't interfear with it's opperation nor did the background clog up the mic.
