Take control of your entertainment center and stop juggling an armload of remote controls with the Samsung Axession SAM2000 Learning Remote, which can control up to 12 devices. It has an extensive library of pre-programmed codes for a wide range of stereo receivers, DVD and CD players, TVs (from all manufacturers since 1981), and more. However, if your component isn't included in the library, the SAM2000 can "learn" commands from your other remotes. It has 10 component modes--TV, Cable box, Satellite box, DVD, VCR, CD, Tuner, Amp, Combo (for VCR/TV or VCR/DVD combination components), and PVR (for TiVo and ReplayTV components)--as well as two Auxilliary slots for components not listed or an additional DVD player/recorder. You can also easily program the SAM2000 to turn on or off two or more components with the press of a single button.

The remote has two directional keys in the top right corner of the remote that enables you to scroll through the list of component modes. The LCD screen reconfigures to display the availalbe controls for each component--for instance, the DVD controls screen features icons for playing, forwarding, reversing, and pausing, while the Tuner controls screen displays selections for accessing radio, TV, DVD, VCR, and others. To access a function on any screen, press the button that sit next to the LCD screen's displayed function.

Sleekly and ergonomically designed, the SAM2000 feels comfortable in your hand and features an easily readable, backlit LCD screen, which changes configuration based on the device you select to control. The SAM2000 will automatically turn off after 2 minutes of continual key pressing, and it will also power down the LCD screen after the device remains inactive for 30 seconds. Press any key on the remote to resume power and normal functioning. The SAM2000 is powered by three AAA batteries (not included).

If a home entertainment component isn't found within the included codes, or you want to modify the function of a specific button, the SAM2000 remote control can easily be taught functions by your existing remote control. Where many learning universal remote controls will pick up signals from the main IR transmitter, typically at the top of the remote, you have to point a component's remote at an IR receiver at the bottom of the SAM2000.

Press and hold the SETUP button for about three seconds, until the LED indicator at the top of the remote (where the IR transmitter is located) begins flashing.
Select the Learn option from the menu, then choose the component mode (such as Tuner or DVD). Press the SETUP button again to acknowledge this component.
Aim your component's original remote at the IR receiver on the bottom of the SAM2000, with a distance of about two to three inches between them.
Press the function button you wish to change. The screen displays "SND1," prompting you to press the desired function key on the original remote. Keep pressing, and you'll hear a ticking sound from the SAM2000 as it receives the signal.
The SAM2000 will emit a beep and display "SND2," prompting you to repeat the pressing of the function key on the component's remote to ensure that the signal has been correctly captured.
Press another button on the SAM2000 to teach it a function, or press the SETUP button to end th learning session.

Not every function from a component's remote can be learned--especially function buttons that continue to make changes when you hold down a button, such as a station preset scroll button on a tuner--but you'll find a majority of controls can be taught to the SAM2000.

I bought this hoping that I wouldn't have to spend so much on a more expensive learning remote. Finally, it's all set up but it was not without its hardships.

First of all, you must point the remote that is "teaching" the unit at the bottom of this controller. The manual doesn't really go out of its way to clarify a confusing point. It's tricky to line the remotes up correctly during the learning process. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to program my other remotes in, but even now I have troubles sometimes. Basically when you find a spot, don't flinch or move because then you have to find it again.

With that said, I give it a 3 because it seems to work fine now. I just don't like programming it!

Buggy, but functional........2006-03-22

Let me preface with this: The manual is wrong. Training is difficult. "Learning," well, takes an incredible amount of patience - however, if you're willing to teach this remote "Water," it will eventually prosper and grow into a universal remote.

Annoyed that I spent nearly $30 on a universal remote that just wouldn't work, I spent about 3 hours figuring out how to make it work.

You need to point your remote behind the unit when in 'learning' mode - and don't sneeze, or it'll lose it. It also doesn't like to work very well with bizarre, and elder systems.

However, I was able to program it to work with my cheap $120 Sanyo TV, circa 2004, and it natively supported my Philips DVP-642 (2005), my RCA VCR (circa 1997), my digital cable box (with PPV!), and my never-heard-of RCA amplifier.

So, if you have patience, and don't mind being annoyed to the point of distress, it works well. I've replaced the batteries in mine once in two years. I'm hooked.. I just pray I will never need to reprogram the beast.

As the preprogrammed modes did not control but the most commonplace functions on my tv and audio set, I quickly started using its learning interface. After teaching many codes, it worked reasonably well, though at the time of buying I did not expect I would have to push many buttons before I could get to the desired device.

Then, it lasted roughly 2 weeks. Afterwards, no matter what I did it locked up with a 0999 message for a few seconds, and did not take any new codes until a removed and reinserted the batteries.

Zero Stars-I'm Suing Samsung.......2005-12-05

This remote is crap. Only when this device was discontinued did somebody (obviously a Samsung suckup) update the product description to include things like "wont work with every model" and crap like that. They deleted the "has macros" business, but a little too late. Many people, like myself, purchased this remote because it promised macros. I've emailed Samsung over 20 times now without a response. Bitter? You bet. And I AM NOT gonna let this go!! The positive (5-star) feedback also is from Samsung shill. Hell, 2 of the five star ratings were from people who don't even own the thing. I dare anyone to find a manufacturers website for product specs on this remote. It doesn't exist. Axession (by Samsung) is just a myth. And as much as they think this remote is in their past, Samsung Corp hasn't seen the last of this remote yet. Class action anyone?

I ordered this remote in the hopes that I can remove all other remotes from service since I have a pile of them for many devices. No such luck! The TV was a simple setup. PIP didn't want to configure and the buttons all scrambled as to which one did what, but I could work with that. Cable...that's another story. Almost NONE of the controls worked with it even though I reprogramed the buttons to try to get more functions. Learning remote is not the case for what you would need. It learns terribly! It wouldn't control my surround sound any at all! DVD worked at first for most functions, but then started loosing functions and I kept having to reprogram them into it over and over. I'll not go into the VCR as it was another nightmare. So, basicly what I'm saying is the only way I would give this remote 5 stars is if I was rating it for a patience practicing device. WORTHLESS. Mine is now in the trash.

Best handset available.......2007-11-09

No complaints at all for this phone. It takes a beating, as it's been dropped on various types of surfaces, and still works. Although it doesn't claim to be waterproof, it still works fine after having been left out in the rain for a couple of hours. The clarity is great, speakerphone works very well, talking caller I.D. is a neat innovation, different colored blinking lights on the antenna help find the phone in a darkened room, and programmable ringtones/sounds gets a lot of compliments from friends. The battery life is very good, and the phone has given no trouble at all during the two years I've owned the system. The base can accept up to 8 handsets, and I've just bought the 5th one for this review. Would have bought all 8, but they are a little pricey.

I have owned this system for about 2 years. It is by far the best and easy system to use and operate that I have ever owned. I love that I can retrieve messages from the answering machine from any handset - an incredible convenience. I recently added 3 additionals handsets - adding them to the system couldn't have been any easier. I highly recommend this phone system.

Wall phone perfect for my kitchen.......2007-05-18

We needed a straight-forward "land-line" phone to use when the electricity goes off. (Cordless phones are useless without the "extra" electricity.) "Old-fashioned" phones like this one use the bit of electricity that comes over the phone line so you can use it in an emergency even if the power if off at home. It reminds me of our old rotatry wall phone we had when I was growing up. It is heavy-duty and well made. It was shipped rapidly and I have been extremely happy with it.

Don't waist your money.......2007-10-31

Bought this phone as a birthday gift for my Mother. Worked for two months and then she couldn't hear anything in the receiver. We got her a new receiver but now people can hear her only very faintly when she talks. I wouldn't purchase from them again and wouldn't recommend their phones.
