Awful in many ways.......2007-12-10
I had this player for about 2 years and just seem to be encountering problem after problem with this player, I have finally replaced it with an IPod. First, I could never get it figured out how to import a playlist. Even after several calls to technical support who could not help me either. It freezes up every now and then too, you just have to wait for the battery to die before it fixes itself. For the past few months I have been battling the headphone plug which has stopped working. I occasionally get sound in 1 earphone and that is only if it is in exactly the right spot, which makes for a frustrating workout for sure. I would not reccomend this player for anyone, it has just been a frustration and I should have taken it back while I could.
Nice player, nice price.......2006-12-06
Works very well, nice audio quality, easy and fast to load. Comes with software, but you don't need it - you can drag-and-drop from your OS if you already have mp3's on your PC. Recharges battery through USB port - you can charge the battery anywhere you have a computer with USB and a compatable cable (both of my digital cameras use the same connector, so I have lots of cables). Only drawbacks - I haven't been able to find a "skin" to protect it while in my car (and the supplied carrying case has no holes to the buttons or display), and the player won't resume when you power it back on at the same spot where you turned it off - both minor when compared to the nice, small size, easy-to-use interface, and affordable price.
I expected better from RCA.......2006-10-04
This was my very first mp3 player. I mainly bought it because I had really liked RCA products in the past, and never really had any complaints with them.
I had it maybe for three days when the hard drive quit working...period. I could not turn the player off, and I could not reset the player. However even before that, the thing I really noticed was that the controls were clumsy and often took several attempts at making them work right before they actually did.
I ended up returning it to the store from which I bought it. Bottom line: stick to RCA for things like televisions, because their mp3 players leave a lot to be desired.
looks nice.. but runs like ****.......2006-09-26
I'm sitting here looking at my Lyra right now, staring at a (frozen) screen that says "Loading", and mind you, this is after having already rebooted the device for the up-teenth time today.
And the kicker: I haven't even owned this device for ONE YEAR yet.
When it comes to MP3 players, this is easily the worst of the worst. There is only one word that can describe this piece of hardware... that word is "CRAPTASTIC". For those who need reasons, let me describe to you the problems I've run into so far:
1) Shoddy scroll wheel. You can tell it to scroll upward, or tell it to scroll downward... but whether the device actually SCROLLS in the direction you tell it to is anyone's guess and seems to be completely random. The hardware is, quite simply, not manufactured well at all... it almost feels sub-standard.
2) The software is worse. The device constantly loses profile of the songs you have on it. Every ten minutes or so, the device simply stops playing anything at all and will not do so again until you re-profile the contents or reboot the device. The device has behaved like this since I purchased it 9 months ago.
3) The device has recently taken to just freezing completely (and taking an extra long time to reboot afterward).
BUYER BEWARE strongly and do some research into this device if you're thinking about purchasing one. In fact, if there is one piece of advice I can give anyone who's looking into buying an MP3 player, that advice is STAY AWAY from RCA Lyras (in any form). Despite the price tag being about half that of an iPod, you manage to get even less than what you pay for it.
I will not buy another one of these devices, nor will I buy anything else from RCA if this is the standard I can expect they normally manufacture their hardware to.
Note: Please bear in mind I'm not normally a complainer, I'm actually the last one to write a bad review about anything normally... I've just seriously gotten so disgusted with this device, especially since I haven't even owned it for a single year yet and it's already failing this badly. "Buyer beware" indeed...

Zero Customer Service, I would not recommend RCA Products.......2007-01-12
Recently we have tried 3 different RCA products and had problems with all 3. When you call RCA Customer service, you will end up talking to someone in India or the Phillipines who barely speaks English and doesn't really care about your problems.
We bought one of these RCA MP3 players and contrary to what it says, they will not reliably play WMA and MP3 songs mixed together. We had been unable to get an answer from RCA as to why and whether there is a fix. We were lucky enough to be able to return the unit for a refund.
If you are in the military stationed overseas don't buy RCA products!.......2006-08-17
I bought this MP3 player for my son last July. Six months later, it stopped working. Contacted the company and was told that I had to send the item back and they will issue a replacement after I pay $69.95. I sent the item, and authorized them to charge my credit card. Several calls later and I have not received a replacement. Every time there is a new reason why the item has not been sent. After six months of waiting, I was told today that they cannot ship the item to a Post Office Box. Well, we are in the military stationed overseas and only have a post office box. The funny thing is that my husband came today and said that he found an RCA MP3 player and would like to buy it. My answer: over my dead body!

RCA LYRA Model 2762B.......2007-09-03
Well after reading all the other reviews I am shocked. I have had mine for well over a year and not had hardly any issues with it. It does freeze once in a while but what I found causes it is there are album cover files that can download along with the music file. When the Lyra tries to read the album file it freezes. I have found about thirty songs out of hundreds I have on it to be corrupted by having the album cover file that came throught the download. Someone stated downloading from cd's is cleaner which I agree with. As for the battery life I still get about 3-4 hours use before I start to see the battery fading badly. I would even buy another one if this one quits. I use it at the health club daily for about 2 hours at a time and maybe have one or two songs that freeze it up. I write down those songs and delete them when I do another download. Well worth the money I paid - $69.00 w/shipping, on line.
Do yourself a favor- Buy another Brand!!!.......2007-03-12
Don't buy it! The 4 GB mini-Hard drives that come with this unit fail after a few weeks. Trying to get RCA Customer Support is impossible. Their on-line support is pathetic. To get an idea of how bad these units are, just Google "RCA File System corrupted" and you'll immediately get 129,000 hits!! You don't even have to reference "Lyra" or a model number in the search. That's how bad these are! In fact, there is a Class-Action lawsuit vs. RCA and Thompson, the manufacturer of the Hard-drive pending in NY. So, don't waste your money. Buy some other brand- anything but RCA!
got a deal, hard disk is warped, it still works.......2007-01-05
clicks a little and freezes....like its injured.
Very disappointing.......2006-07-20
I have had the Lyra Jukebox for only one year and it just blew up on me - literally. I noticed that the battery life recently took a turn for the worse, lasting maybe 45 minutes to an hour. Then the other day I went to use it and noticed that the battery pack expanded and split the case open - now it is worthless. It worked somewhat decently prior to this. I experienced the "Corrupt File System" errors it appears most others have, but a simple reset fixed it. As far as mp3 players go - it works, but it is very basic. The interface is limited and the scroll wheel is inaccurate. The shuffle feature is also weak. It shuffles the songs, but the order in which they are shuffled is the same each time it is used.
For the $180 I paid for this at Wal-Mart a year ago, I would expect it to last more than a year. Don't waste your money on this, there are much better players out there.
RCA RD2762 is a bargain !.......2006-07-12
I've had several MP3 players and this is my favorite out of all of them. I will typically get 6-7 hrs. of listening time with my Lyra, and I've experience no skips or anything else.
For the people experiencing file corruption problems with their Lyras, you need to keep in mind that you should not store more than 100 entries to a playlist folder. Also I repair these units, and typically the file corruption error is caused due to poorly written html, sometimes virus activity.
I think it's an excellent choice if you're looking to get your first MP3 player.

Two Batteries in a package a GREAT idea!.......2000-06-16
It's not the batteries that I like most about this product. Since batteries are pretty much all the same. I liked this product because in a singe package it contains to two CR-2 lithium Photo Batteries. Since I bought my Minolta SLR camera from Amazon.com, which require two batteries, this would be a better, and cheaper choice. Plus it's great for the Environment too.
Excellent made!.......2000-06-16
This is a great battery and last for some time. I use these in my camera and have no problem at all, of with being Energizer brand you know they should be reliable and powerful and they live up to it once again. If you need this type then I would suggest getting this 2pack deal!
