Very satisfied.......2008-01-01
Please accept this as unbiased and just one persons opinions.
Got 4 phone set in early Dec. 2007. We "just" plugged them in and went live. No computer science degree needed. We love the very simple feature to create phonebook on 1 and very easily forward that list to any/all other phones. You can easily change the ringer volume and tone. There are probably 50 zillion settings we can change, but so what. The cell phones have/need all that. Our house phones are moving towards our cell phone backup anyway.
Range has not been tested, but sound to caller as well as thru handsets is outstanding. No tinny or echo or other electronic noises.
One strange thing; my folks have same system, yet don't have caller-id from Verizon. On theirs, I programmed in my cell phone then called them from that phone. No caller-id was shown, even though it was programmed in. Not sure why. At my home, where we have caller-id from Verizon, I did the same test and the phone book entry displayed instead of the Verizon id. This is exactly what we want.
The buttons are NOT backlit, but so far we don't find the need to wake up and start dialing.
The way the "master" base mounts to wall is dorky. We don't like that look at all and will likely have to add it to our cluttered counter.
So far so good, very well recommended.
Only one problem so far.......2008-01-01
Sound is very good with great reception and no interference. The messaging system is less than optimum... any recorded message is heard on all phones making privacy of the information from guests non-existent.

Panasonic KX-TG1034S Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Phone System with 4 Handsets
Fantastic phones. Replaced 4 other handsets and now have great reception in all areas around the house. Plus it's expandable, so no more running to catch the phone.
Panasonic KX-TG1034S.......2007-12-31
The phone system was very easy to connect and setup. The menu's are very easy to use. A big plus was that there was virtually no static from the high voltage power lines near home. The only real problem that I saw was that the maximum distance between the handset and the base was not as far as I thought it should be. Appears to be about 40 ft. I would reccomend this phone.

I Gave this to my parents for Christmas. They are both in their 80's.
They had no trouble with it.

Very Good DECT 6.0 Digital Expandable Phone.......2007-12-08
This is a very good dect 6.0 set; I spent over 30 minutes describing in detail the phone's qualities via a review but Amazon didn't publish it and am very aggravated at Amazon. Not sure if this one will see the light of day past the censors.
these are 1.9GHz phones.......2007-11-23
For all the idiots who think that these phones will have a shorter range than the 2.5GHz and 5.8GHz because they are "DECT 6.0" phones, need to read the instructions.
These phones run at 1.9GHz so should have LONGER range.
Please don't listen to the people who complain about the phone, yet have never read the instruction or even the product description.
The phones are another fine Panasonic product.
6.0 Functions As It Should.......2007-11-19
I'll agree with both prior comments, the unit performs flawlessly.
Range is very good with crystal clear audio. DECT 6.0 is the international standard. Since its standard is 'universal' It uses a frequency of 1.9 Ghz; less traffic and longer range tha 2.4 and 5.8 GHz.
Predefined and prompt languages are only English and Español. It does NOT facilitate Français.
The downside:
> charge lamp on each phone is quite bright -- annoying in the bedroom.
> keys are NOT back lit, only the screen is.
> unable to rename stations.
> volume not as loud as I'd like.
Another generation of junk.......2007-11-10
The usual suspects keep churning out junk phones. Though they have had their reliability problems, I've used the same VTech 5.8 phones for three years. Hoping that these handsome new Panasonic phones would have more clarity on a new frequency, I bought them. It took about thirty seconds to discover that their range and voice quality are substantially inferior to the phones I have. They have more of the background hiss and the typical crackling sound associated with insufficient range. Since everyone has phones, the manufacturers need to cook up reasons to cause people to buy replacements. For my purposes they will have to do better than this.
Pause for thought.......2007-09-10
I agree with the review complaining about shorter range for the higher frequency phones. It is a basic law of physics that the higher wave bands (5.8 vs 2.4 vs 900) have shorter distances of travel. That is true of all the phones regardless of brand. Consumers Reports has a great article on this subject and rates some of the more popular models in its current issue, OCT 07. The bottom line is that this is a lot of phone for the money. Cost co has is for much less.

Customer Reviews:
bad design, bad quality.......2007-12-17
We bought this for my daughter for Christmas last year, and she took excellent care of it. In March the joystick controller split in two. It seems like this is pretty common problem, but Creative would not fix it. I ended up buying another broken one and replacing the joystick myself. But in Sept. the screen backlight died. I am really disapointed in both the customer service and quality of this product and will not buy another Creative product again
Good for me.......2007-12-16
This player has been working fine for me. I only use it for about 1 hour, M-F, on the way home from work. I had to buy new headphones because the ones that came with it hurt my ears, otherwise, no complaints.
Very good if..........2007-12-08
I had one of these for about a year before my little brother yanked it down from the desk and righit onto hard wood, it still worked, but the screen died, and i didnt feel like replacing it, so i just got something else. But like I said, if youve ever used an iPod or iTunes, you know that their very easy to use, and Creative isnt quite as good but their catching up. Now they may be harder to use (for the first week until you get used to them) but Creative PACKS this thing with tons of extra stuff, im too lazy to list them, but i would definately buy this over an iPod nano if you know how to work, and figure out how to use things well, but if you just want something siple to use, and iPod might be better, but if you just want to play music (and not use the extra features on the Zen V) then its a pretty simple music player.
Three week lifespan.......2007-12-04
I had some concerns proir to purchasing this after reading reviews on the Amazon, NewEgg and other websites. It appears you've got a 50-50 chance of getting a good one. I took a chance and got the lemon. I lost all confidence when I finally got though to the RCA techies, and their response was "yeah, these have issues, not really sure why".
Having to carry around a toothpick to reboot this everytime it freezes is not my idea of a quality product. Not that I use this often, maybe an hour a day, if that but when the backlight gave out, it was time to send back. Kudos to Amazon's return policy and I'll take the refund to purchase something else.
Great player for the money.......2007-11-27
This a a great player for a new user. Once I learned how to navigate, I've had very few problems. The screen shows more than other players of equal size.
This device supports books from Audible, which is my primary use, although I have some albums and pictures. This little 1GB can hold a large book, six albums, and about 20 pictures. The screen shows the length of a downloaded book, how much time you've listened to and how much time is left. You can use the joystick to move forward and back within the book. This device is also supported by my public library, and I can download some books for free.
If you shut down the player while a book is playing the unit will usually return to where you left off, and the bookmarking feature offers additional protection. The unit has frozen several times when I was attempting to navigate too fast, but I've discovered that the earring post I'm always wearing becomes a great way to reset the player.
It is incredible to have an entire book in my purse! Great little player for the money.

Refurb 1GB Zen V White/orange Eng/fr.......2007-08-26
Simple to use. Fast and easy file transfer. Hold lots of info. Nice to share photos on the spot. Only complaint - cannot read the menu when I am on the beach and that is where I use it the most right now. It is kind of a guessing game to find the files there. Good battery power. Nice unit for the price.

Not Ready for Prime Time ?.......2006-11-16
I bought the 2 GB model because at the time it had the largest flash memory of any unit that works with my Napster-To-Go subscription, so it can store the largest number of songs and color photographs. The 1 GB version is identical except for the amount of installed flash memory.
Since this is the Creative Zen V version, it doesn't have an FM radio and voice recorder in it the way a Zen V+ model would have.
I gave this 1 GB model only 3 stars because it's a much smaller amount of memory than other models, and there's a glitch described below causing it to go comatose after being disconnected from power.
Why did I choose a flash memory based MP3 player? Napster-To-Go compatible hard drive models with much larger storage capacity abound, but I figure they'll break prematurely because they use a hard drive that can't withstand much jogging, accidental bumping or dropping.
I bought two of these players plus the separately sold AC wall charger, and attached one of them to the wall charger for 6 hours, while I attached the other one to a USB port on my PC to charge it for 6 hours.
At the end of 6 hours, the unit attached to the PC was fine until I unplugged it, then it went comatose and would not even revive when the reset button was pushed several times. I had to exchange it for a replacement unit just two days after buying it.
The unit attached to the wall charger was fine, and I went on to load it up with music using my Napster-To-Go subscription. That was fine until 2 weeks later, when my wife charged it on a PC using the USB cable. After charging and disconnecting from the PC, it too went comatose.
This time I was able to revive it by pushing the reset button.
Then I took a look at the other unit, which had been charging on the AC wall charger. It had also gone comatose, and I was able to revive it by pushing its reset button.
The reset button is inside a tiny hole on the left edge of this unit. You can find it by following the thin groove that's below the screen all the way to the left edge of the unit, where you'll find it on the side. The picture in the manual does NOT accurately depict its location.
The hole leading to the reset button is very, very small. The instructions say to penetrate that hole with a pin.
I used the sharp end of a safety pin to do this. When the pin is inserted, it's quite easy to miss the reset button unless the pin is inserted at exactly the right angle. You'll know it's not at the right angle if you don't feel that you're pushing on a pad with a spring behind it when you reset the unit. That pad travels a short distance until it's stopped by a control surface inside the unit; that's when you know it has been reset.
The reset system should be redesigned so that it doesn't depend on the angle you insert the pin to work. I suspect that the first unit I returned could have been reset if I had known that you have to insert the pin at just the right angle to do it. Since I didn't know, my several attempts to reset it were not successful.
Resetting the unit is akin to rebooting a PC: it revives it when the internal software (called "firmware") has frozen by restarting the software. It does not erase your songs or photos.
Make no mistake: this MP3 player looks, feels and works beautifully. However, since the firmware is newly designed, it appears to have bugs relating to disconnecting it from USB or charger power that cause it to freeze, and the reset button is a little hard to use if you don't know about the things I described above that could cause you to be unable to reset it. You may just end up with a unit that's frozen and not be able to reset it.
It needs to be a little more user friendly than that. Hopefully a future firmware update will be available that will lower the occurrence of the unit locking up (freezing), especially when disconnecting from a USB port or AC charger after recharging it. As another user noted, the "safe disconnect" icon is often times not even in the system tray.
If you don't subscribe to Napster-To-Go, your options to get content for your MP3 player are to transfer your favorite songs from CDs you own to your hard disk ("ripping the songs"), or purchase songs one track or album at a time, at a price ranging from 88 to 99 cents per song from Napster, Rhapsody or WalMart.
You can also download books you want to listen to (such as best sellers and classics) or "podcasts" (your favorite newspapers read aloud, or your favorite radio programs like NPR) from a plethora of sites (like NPR's website, or NetLibrary or Audible) that make these available, onto your computer's hard drive. Now you can listen to your music, audible books and podcasts over your PC loudspeakers while sitting at your PC.
Then you can transfer your songs, audible books and podcasts from the hard drive of your PC to your MP3 player(s). This enables you to take your MP3 player with you to enjoy listening in your car, in your office, while jogging or working out at the gym, while shopping, or at the pool or the beach to hear your music, audible books and podcasts anywhere.
