Fantastic........2007-12-11

I won't say that it's fantastic for the money. It's just plain fantastic. If it was twice the cost, it would still be amazing. I get analog channels that my last antenna didn't receive. (Dish mounted external antenna) And I get 8 or so digital channels that look for the most part, depending on programming, beautiful. Also since I have an HDTV, prime time shows come in HD. I like this thing so much I have two. One for my computer to record live tv. The only con to this thing is it's size. It takes up a pretty good footprint, but I can afford the space. But if you are short on room, look for another antenna. Also, you need a free power outlet to run it, since it is a powered antenna. Enjoy.

This antenna is designed (as I understand it) to be the right shape for the wavelengths produced by UHF [channels 14 + up] TV broadcasts (in addition to the VHF [channels 2 - 13] antennae sticking up from it). The power dial on it is of questionable value...I have it cranked to "maximum" all the time...not sure whether it's supposed to work like a CB's squelch or what, but it seems like it might as well just be "on". One down side: the linear / positionable VHF antennae loosen with time, and don't stand up on their own anymore. This is a problem I had with my last (unpowered, Terk brand) antenna, which was the same physical design, but lacked the power boost; I suspect it's a design problem familiar to anyone who has an antenna of this general type. Because of this physical problem, you may need to prop up the VHF antannae to get a good signal.

Decent antenna, amplifier questionable.......2007-11-19

Pulling in 6 digital channels in Austin, TX with this. One more channel comes in intermittently. Plugging in amplifier makes no difference.

If it doesn't seem to work at all, make sure the wire in the coax cable actually goes into the socket on your TV/box. The coax cable on this antenna uses the thinnest gauge center wire I've ever seen. I was screwing it into my TiVo without being able to see what I was doing, and later found I had bent and scrunched up the center wire.

Philips probably saves 5 cents on a cheap cable and is probably getting a bunch of returns because of it.

No manual, and Philips web site doesn't know this product exists.

Contrary to an earlier review, works fine with my TiVo (HD).

reliable HD antenna.......2007-11-13

We wanted HDTV but didn't want to pay the monthly cable fee, so we bought an HDTV and this antenna, allowing us to watch the digital versions of the network channels (2-1, 9-1, etc.), which are much sharper and clearer than their analog counterparts. On occasion, with bad weather, we'll see some transmission problems (pixel blocking, etc.), but for the most part, we're very happy with this setup. Antenna shape is a little wide to sit on the windowsill, but performs well.

Absolutely works!.......2007-01-19

I received this item today and quickly hooked it up to the VGA port in my Olevia 27" HDTV and the other end to my Philips DVD player. Upon changing to the VGA Component source on my TV it acted just as a normal component to component cable would and the quality is fantastic.

Also came with male-to-female adapters for those who want to extend their connection even farther with a normal component cable.

Cable is bulky and slightly heavy, but all things considered (shielding, high quality construction), it's no real problem.

Doesn't work.......2006-12-12

I have a Samsung LCD TV that only has one RGB component input in the back but has a VGA (computer) hook up so I thought this would do the trick since I have two component sources. Well, it did nothing. There is no video signal at all from this cable, not even reversed from a VGA source to component. I would suggest getting a component splitter (thirty bucks from wally world) and doing it that way.

Too Hard to Use.......2004-01-15

We bought 4 radios to keep in touch while snow skiing. They replaced 4 older/cheaper radios that were 1/2 watt with no sub-codes. The Midland radios have the squelch unlock button right above the push-to-talk button. Both buttons are just little rubber-covered bumps on the side of the radio. A gloved finger can't tell the difference. We had to remove gloves to even use the radios because we couldn't tell when the button was pressed or which button we were pressing. An accidental double-click on the push-to-talk button activates the 3 second alert tone and shuts down all conversation. Three seconds is forever if it happens in the middle of your transmission. Half the time, we'd get only part of a transmission because the push-to-talk button wasn't getting pushed correctly. VERY FRUSTRATING! Remember that these were experienced radio users. We also found that any small hill between us would garble the reception. Friends who were with us were much happier with their 1/2 watt Motorolas. If I had my money back, I'd buy something else.

Poor reception and even poorer quality.......2003-11-11

I was very displeased with my Midland G-225 radios. I bought six G-225 radios so all of my hunting partners could stay in communication across a one square mile property. I chose Midland over Motorola brand radios because of the Midland's two watts of power compared to most Motorola two-way radios that are on one-half watt output. I assumed four times more power would increase communication distances. Was I ever wrong...

We found in side by side tests of the Midland G-225 and several different versions of Motorola's 1/2 watt systems that the Motorolas were far superior in reception across hilly and wooded terrain. At times, the Midland's could not communicate across distances as short as 200 yards, if there was any intervening terrain, while the various Motorolas had no problem with these conditions.

In addition, of the six G-225 units I purchased, two had major problems right out of the box, while two more went bad within three days of use. In my opinion, that is totally unacceptable quality.
