What a joke.......2006-04-30
I was looking for a new MP3 player, since my husband's using my old one. This was not the one. I've tried for over a week to get it working with no success. Don't be fooled by the price, it's not worth it. Buy the iPOD. I am.

OK....If you wanna get an iPod, then go and BUY AN iPOD!!! because you will just not be satisfied....BUT, if you just want something you can take to the gym or on the "run", then YOU Cant BEAT THIS for price and features! PERIOD!
I was looking for these qualities: COMPACT, 512mb-1gb Flash Drive Storage (use it for saving other files), FM Radio, Cheap!! Anything else added in was just "gravy". After checking around at all the "cheap" ones at electronics stores and eBay, I settled on this one....
HIGHS: Micro sized-very cool looking

First thing that impressed me was its size. I've taken home match boxes from restaurants bigger than this, it feels like a thin Zippo lighter.
Because of its very compact frame, all buttons are on its sides and at first were a bit confusing, but play with it for a couple hours and you find that its easy to operate (buttons have dual functions-press once for play, press and hold to open "sub-folders" etc.
Next COOL Thing is its OLED screen...something that will be taking over the market in the near future, it runs with less energy, you can view it from any angle w/o losing clarity and has brilliant colors. The sceen is very small but having this little screen just adds to its cool effect, after you load you photos, you can have em play back during song play.
Convert your video files and transfer them for playback.....very cool showing off to your friends and co-workers. This OLED Screen is not really made for watching movies (although Im sure you could watch a TV show or something short) but just the fact that it can do it, well COOL!
Operation is drag and drop. If you got you Windows Media Player or whatever- all your songs are in MP3 or WMA format, then just connect the player to your PC, open the files and copy em over. I connected my player via USB and Sync'ed it in the Media Player and it also worked fine.
The one thing I dont care for is if you want to add in your Jpeg or pic files, you have to convert or have them in Bitmap format first, then using the included software, convert it over into another type of file, which can then be viewed on its screen. Kind of a drawn out process but when you see you pics flashing their way across the OLED during playback, its neat.
The same cane be said for converting video files into ones which can be played and viewed on this player.
In my opinion, the Low Points are far outweighed by the HIGH points. As I've stated above, I was only looking for something basic. If you want more or something that will store your enitre music library, then go buy something else. If you want one of them lipstick type players but wanna be a little different, then get this. You'll have everything those things have and alot more.
I thought this was so neat that a couple days later I went back on eBay and bought another player from this company (VL535).

Be Warned GMRS requires an $85.00 FCC license.......2007-06-22
Be warned GMRS channels require an FCC license which costs $85.00. It takes a couple days to get this license, you can do it on the Internet. These radios are on UHF which does penetrate the bricks-and-mortar better than VHF radios would (e.g. MURS Radios) but the low power and relatively inefficient rubber ducky antennas don't give you much range. Have someone drive in a car and someone stay in a house and you'd be lucky to get a mile out of them. Channels 1-7 are FRS and GMRS shared but if you don't have the GMRS license then you ARE an FRS user, which means just 1/2 watt power and 1/2 the modulation (1/2 deviation for FM radio technicians). If the radio won't work in these FRS specs on these channels then you better have a GMRS license. Channels 8-14 are FRS only. Channels 15-22 are GMRS only. Again you better have a license. There are repeaters in some cities on GMRS only frequencies many are grandfathered business users.
These things are great for relatively short distances. Make sure you hit "Monitor" and see if anyone else is talking before you transmit. These radios have "Privacy Tones" which is basically TONE SQUELCH. You won't hear anybody else if you have this on. But they could still be there either with no tone or a different tone.

If you live in a corn field buy this. If you do not please save your mone. I purchased it to
communicate with my store that is 3 miles from
my home. It worked great around the house. When
my husband went to the store at 1 mile away he
could not connect to me. I called cobra they told me the range was for a corn field or open
spaces. Iguess if your a hiker like the other
reviewer thats great. If you need to communicate in the real world of brick and mortar forget it. cobra should explain on the
packaging the true range bedroom to bathroom only.
Great for group hikes and road trips.......2005-07-26
I just got back from a two-week geology field study trip through the Rocky Mountains with 24 other people. The group was in three vans going through mostly rural areas (i.e., no mobile phone service), so naturally radio communication between the vans was essential. The Cobras were great! Because of the power-saving mode, the batteries lasted the entire trip, even though the radios were powered on for several (often many) hours each day. Also, the radios were very useful when the group split up while hiking: half the group could climb Wheeler Peak in Nevada, while the other half hiked to a glacier 2000 feet below the peak, and everyone could hike at their own pace, while we all stayed in contact with one another. (We were using a GMRS frequency; I can't speak to whether an FRS frequency would have worked as well.)
The only slightly annoying thing about the power-save mode is that, while the battery life is GREATLY extended, the person transmitting has to remember to wait a couple seconds between pressing the "transmit" button and beginning to speak. Otherwise, the first couple seconds of the transmission will not be heard, because it takes that long for the receiving radio(s) to "wake up" from the power-save mode and realize that a transmission is coming in. However, you can turn off the automatic power-save function if you find this irritating or if the people in your group can't remember to wait the 2 seconds before speaking.
All in all, I'd highly recommend these radios. Especially for the price!
