Good travel item - Bad if want to recharge ipod.......2006-02-25
I had this product for a month now and here is couple things I found.
Pros: - small, light and compact. Takes only 4 AA batteries, no recharger or power cord to drag around. Expect 4 to 6 hours extended music time, 1 or 2 hours of Video use. Great on Planes or traveling (just carry extra batteries).
Cons: - Use fresh batteries any old batteries won't work. Noticed if batteries drop below 5 volts (4 AA batteries = 6volts) they iPod will not see it or charge from it. The batteries still have plenty of life in them but you can't use it in this unit.
Quirk: You normally have to turn off the battery pack, plug in the iPod then turn on the battery pack for the iPod to see it.
Wish list: Wish they would have used a two 9 volt batteries instead, because the cut off point is 5 volts, anything below that the iPod will not see it (lightning bolt on battery icon).

Once every couple months I travel either overseas or cross-country and I take my iPod everywhere. As most iPod owners know, especially those with the third generation iPods or earlier, battery life has always been an issue and I found my iPod battery running out unless I was lucky enough to find an electric outlet at the airport just before taking off. I recently ordered the Powerstick and it works great. Even charging my iPod for twenty minutes on the Powerstick gives me a couple hours of listening time. It's fairly compact (fits nicely in my messenger bag), simple, and relatively inexpensive. My only complaint is that it isn't rechargeable. In the end I bought NiMH batteries for it and it's still less expensive than rechargeable iPod pocket chargers.
