Sleek Protection!.......2007-12-20
I was skeptical about this case. I used a Belkin leather flip-cover for my previous iPods, and found that they were the best protection, especially for a fall. I decided to give it a try based on the review, and was very pleased with it. Aside from looking very sleek and stylish, I think this tops my Belkin cases in every respect.
The front and back are both clear plastic, with a hole in the front leaving the touch wheel exposed. There are holes in the top for the hold button and for your earphone jack, and one in the bottom for the USB cable. This means that the screen is completely covered, while allowing you to watch it and have access to the menu.
Rubber around the sides of the case gives great protection in case of impact-- I've found that sides and corners will do the most damage in a fall, and the cushioning on this case is IDEAL. Snap the latches on the side into place, and you won't have to remove your iPod from its case ever again, unless maybe for a dock. The latches are firm without being impossible to slide into place, and seem unlikely to accidentally slide open. I don't trust the belt clip, but I have never trusted belt clips.
The only additional item I would recommend would be a full-length plastic sheet to cover the wheel. (PDA screen protectors have worked well for me.) I haven't dropped my iPod in it, and am not going to tempt fate by doing so just to test this case. However, I am very pleased with the design-- looks good AND makes me feel confident about carrying my iPod and keeping it safe.
Best iPod Case I've Ever Owned!.......2007-11-27
I had a Contour Showcase for my previous iPod which I owned for 4 years. When it came time to upgrade to the iPod Classic, I sold my old iPod and it was still virtually scratch free after all that time thanks to the Showcase!
My only complaint is that the Showcase Classic wasn't yet available when I bought my 160GB iPod classic. I settled for a cheap alternative until it was released, and in the two short weeks I had that other case, there were two nice long scratches on the back!
This is such a well thought-out case I can't say enough good things about it.
First off, the plastic shell is good and sturdy and completely encases the entire iPod, leaving only the headphone jack, the dock port, click wheel and the hold switch open to be accessed. There is also a rubber "bumper" around the outside edge, giving great shock protection in case of drops. I would drop my old iPod many times and the only reason it wasn't damaged was because of the Showcase.
The belt clip is removable and reversible, depending on how you want to wear it.
The locking mechanisim has been redesigned for this model, the two slide switches on the side are now flush with the shell of the case, making it even more slim than before. The old model had a rather large latch that stuck out from the side.
My yardstick for what makes a good iPod case, is one you never have to open or remove the iPod to access any of the features or plugs, and the Contour Showcase Classic passes with flying colors!
If you want good, solid protection for your iPod you can't go wrong with the Showcase!

Not ready for prime time........2007-01-11
Good idea but terrible execution. The software is poorly documented, poorly designed, and hard to use. For example, you can't use the web console to manage all basic tasks. You have to physically hook up monitors, keyboard, and mouse to the PBX and run the console software. It seems like the management console was halfway ported to a web system and released for consumption. The product is definitly incomplete for do-it-yourself. In addition, you get two good phone sets and the remaining 6 are low quality. Overall, product did not live us to promised benefits.
