I burned 10 of these discs in quick succession (data mode, no movies) and I did not lose any disks. Takes approximately 1 hour to burn and verify job integrity (2.4x speed). All 8.5 Gb of data are available, as advertised. My only concern is the high price, but I certainly got what I paid for. Try to buy in a promotion, if you can.
Average for DL DVD media.......2007-10-06
These disks were hit and miss for me. I went through about 3 spindles of this brand of DL DVD, had about 5% of them end up as coasters (Had some layer break problems, and data problems. Firmware was up to date). I love Sony's 4.7 gb DVD's, but their DL's are manufactured by CMC and have a higher error rate than Verb. I would recommend paying a little bit extra for Verbatim.

It's hard to find a good, fairly inexpensive and stable DVD+R Double Layer for use in a home recorder. When you have a lot of material that requires something more than a standard 4.7 GB blank disc, your work seems to be cut out for you. Name brands abound, but you really don't know where or by whom they are made. DVD+R discs are hardly, if ever, manufactured by the namesake, so you have to experiment. I have recently discovered the Sony DVD+R Double Layer discs, trying them out when they were on sale at Best Buy. Very, very impressive! They are stable (incorporating what Sony calls "AccuCore"), play back well in a variety of different DVD players, and have a nice finish to the top surface which is easy to write on with a Sharpie. They aren't cheap, but I haven't made a coaster yet!

Disappointed in quality.......2007-08-27
Wood is a soft composite, not "hardwood" as stated in the description. Relatively light contact with the pieces during assembly instantly left scratches (white under the black paint). Fortunately I had pretty good luck coloring in the scratches with a black Sharpie pen, but closer inspection reveal the flaws fairly easily. While putting our television up on the stand, we allowed it to briefly rest on the surface of the TV stand and that too left a couple visible indentations in the "wood".
The stand comes competely unassembled. Our shipment was missing 8 screws (antiqued brass colored, so not something we could find in any store). Home Decorators was very easy to work with and they offered a decent sized store credit, a somewhat smaller cash credit, or the option of shipping it all back at their expense for an exchange. Since I spent countless hours assembling the beast, I was in no mood to ship it all back (probably impossible for me to figure out how to jigsaw it all back into the larg box in any case), so I took the cash credit. I still can't find the right screws, so I'll either get something close and try to make it look "old" myself, or give up and replace all the screws with non-antiqued screws. No complaints at all about working with Home Decorators to resolve this problem.
Unless you're pretty good with asssembling things, think twice about this product. The instructions are Excellent and all parts are well labeled -- the problem is that if you can't line up door hinges accurately, etc., the unit is going to show all the flaws of your efforts. The product comes with pre-drilled holes, but as I found out, those holes aren't quite lined up that well so the finished product looks sloppy (wide gap between doors on one side, small gap on other side, for example). I blame myself for the way it looks, but I should have known better. Don't expect their guideholes to lead to a good looking end-product.
Finally, the red streaks that are supposed to make this look "antiqued" do not look like that at all. The smooth finish looks very factory-like and the red streaks look pretty lame--almost like a weak afterthought. while the style may be traditional, the look ends up being less appealing than expected. I would suggest paying a few more bucks at an antique store for an authentic, full-assembled, table.
For all its faults, it's not a Bad piece. Does the job and blends in fine with an Asian-themed decor. Considering how soft the wood and finish are, however, I don't think the stand will survive a move to another home.
