Sony's second-generation KE-32TS2 16:9 widescreen gas-plasma TV offers elegant WEGA styling with improved performance features over its predecessor, including 38 percent higher peak brightness (though Sony has not disclosed the actual brightness rating). The set includes everything you need to get the set up and running in minutes, from an NTSC broadcast tuner to built-in stereo speakers and even a handy pedestal for tabletop positioning.

The set's native 852 x 1024 pixel resolution (vertical x horizontal) ensures detailed images, while 1,000:1 contrast ratio means you'll see deep black and vivid, dynamic images from just about any source. Use it with a DTV set-top receiver for viewing full high-definition programming (720p, 1080i scaled for 1024 display) or with your progressive-scan DVD player for seamless, flicker-free images at 480p. Onboard Pixel by Pixel I/P (interlace to progressive) conversion reconstructs interlaced (480i) film or video scenes one pixel at a time for fluid, life-like motion along with breathtaking image detail.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the KE-32TS2 is a mere 5.25 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Sony's CineMotion full reverse 3:2 conversion digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Sony's exclusive Digital Pixel Generator System transmits and process all video signals digitally. It maximizes the quality of video sources for natural, rich image reproduction, and it's especially effective with high-definition sources.

A Digital Visual Interface (DVI-HDTV) connection enables the delivery of copy-protected, high-definition video content from a compatible set-top box (DTV receiver). Other connections include 2 high-definition-capable component-video inputs, 2 each composite- and S-video jacks, and an RF coaxial input to handle an antenna, cable box, or an older VCR.

The audio system offers 7 watts per channel x 2 for the built-in speakers, a monaural RCA subwoofer output for enhancing your bass through use of a powered stand-alone subwoofer, and TruSurround SRS audio processing, which generates the life-like sound of rear speakers using only the stereo pair built into the television cabinet. This minimizes the need to sit in a designated "sweet spot" while you and your family watch movies or TV. Alternately, a set of left/right RCA audio outs lets you integrate the set with your audio/video surround receiver.

Place the set on a matching AV stand, Sony's SU-TS1, or mount it on the wall, picture-style, using the WB-PW2 wall bracket (both accessories optional).

Poof goes the TV.......2007-01-15

Like other reviewers, my TV also went poof after having it about 4 years (guess I should consider myself lucky in getting a bit more time than others). Repair looks to be $700 plus to replace a power switch. I'm very disappointed in this Sony; obviously a poor design. I'm in the market for another TV, not sure it will be a Sony.

Poof !.......2007-01-05

Love the TV screen and box design. Problem, as w/ another reviewer, is the screen went blank. Purchased in Jan of 2003 and last week, after a mere 3 yrs, sparks flew fr the back and 2 pops were heard. The screen went blank and either the TV is worthless,considering what you can now get for $1k plus, or I'm in for a near $1k repair. Sony should be ashamed that one of their high end products has such a short shelf life. Yes, I called Sony and they referred me to an authorized repair person.

Super TV, even after 2 years........2005-03-11

This one is a real winner. Has all kinds of inputs. The picture quality lives up true to the Sony tradition. Crips stunning images with tons of picture and audio quality settings.

I even connected my laptop to this TV. Pictures are sharp and crisp. The built-in tuner is a good advantage as well.

Problem TV.......2004-12-28

I purchased this plasma TV 18 mths ago for approx $4500, in addition to a wall bracket for $250. Two months ago there was a loud 'pop' and the picture went out. Sony customer service advised me to take it to their service center in San Diego. I did so and was charged $700 for a new power system. I was informed by the technician that it is a common problem. I wrote a letter to Sony but was informed that the warranty expires after one year. Could not recommend this model.

Disappointed at Year 2.......2004-12-28

I bought this tv almost 2 years ago and paid almost 5000 for it. Today I am planning to spend 1000 more to replace a screen part because 2 weeks ago I began to get only a white screen when ever I turned the tv on. Who would believe that such a tv would only last 2 years with no maintenance required. I used the repair section on sony.com and selected a repair service in the area. The repair person who came to look at my set did not seem surprised about the problem. Therefore I would be cautious about the purchase of another plasma.
