Good TV; But Not a 1080p.......2007-11-26
As mentioned above, this is not a 1080p television. However that does not affect the picture quality at all because it is only 42". CNET states, and I agree, that the difference in resolution between 1080p and 720p (this set) are really only visible with televisions larger than 50", and even then they are not noticeable to the average viewer.
This is a great set, the anti-glare feature is a great bonus. It is my understanding that it is the same exact thing as the TH 42PX77U, just a different letter for some retailers. Be warned that it doesn't have Picture-In-Picture like most other TV's and there are not as many options available to fine-tune the picture.
Regardless, it is a great value TV with a good picture.
Wow!.......2007-11-24
Bought this TV at Costco for $1,149.00 after much researching. Consumer Report ranks this TV pretty high as far as Plasmas go. I am from old school so as excited as I was, when I got home. I unbooxed it and LET IT SIT for about 4 hrs to come to room temperature before trying to operate it. I set up my surround sound system turned on this TV and WOW!
Right out of the box it is incredible!. I love the Anti-Glare, because it is in a room with many windows. One of the notable features is the tuner. I have BASIC cable with 13 channels. I set the TV to tune automatically and blam! All the HD channels came in! WOW again! The first night we watched a movie (for the first time) in HD. Automatic dimming feature is great too...without even realizing it...we shut off some lights and the TV compensated for it. I did my research, especially regarding size. I kinda got sucked into the whole bigger is better and 1080 VS 720. After reading that anything in Plasma bigger than 42" you should probably get a 1080 and for TVs 42" and smaller you won't notice a difference, I have to agree. The 42" is a perfect size for our living room. I am sure this TV will give us many years of HD viewing pleasure at a great price. I reccomend this TV to anyone researching. Plasma, in my opinion is far superior to LCD both in picture quality and price. Plus Costco has a 90 day return policy and gives a 2 year warranty on all TVS. That sweetened the deal too!
