Awesome!.......2007-12-26
I'm not an audiophile, but I must say that these small speakers sound great! I use these for my yoga classes where sometimes I need to crank up the sound for vibrational music. I get a crisp sound....good enough for me. I highly recommend these speakers. Great little 'portable' speakers! I'm satisfied. : ')
better than advertised!.......2007-12-21
this little speaker does a fine job and is so versatile. great quality for a low price.
good travel speaker.......2007-12-20
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend, who uses it to supplement a lackluster work laptap on the road. He loves it so far and hasn't had any trouble. The volume and quality of sound is adequate for watching shows/movies on the computer, and the design is excellent for travel - the case is durable enough to pack without much worry over any cracking or other damage. The size is perfect for most carry on luggage, and the slim design doesn't take up much room at all.
Best sound you could possibly expect for the size or price..........2007-12-14
While it has a few ergonomic issues (short cord, somewhat strange flip-back design, easily scratched transparent plastic cover), the sound is a smash. I have $1K speakers, High-end Sennheiser Headphones, Solid State and Tube gear - I am an audiophile. They are musical, clean and clear sounding without the slightest hint of fatigue. The bass is more than appropriate for a 1" deep cabinet, and moreover is balanced with the rest of the presentation - but no, there is not true low( sub 40hz) bass here, there never is with portable speakers. I bought them for my (non-audiophile) wife to use with her internet tablet at her office, but she gave it back - said it was too loud (like the tv, radio or stereo always is when I use it).
Great Portable Speakers.......2007-12-14
These speakers are great for the money. They are easily packable but not pocketable. The sound is very loud plugged in an with batteries. Works great with an ipod or other mp3 device. Also works as an upgrade from your laptops underpowered speakers. The design looks sharp and the blue led power button is a nice touch.
-1 star because at the highest volumes it rattles and the cable is a little short.

Great Speakers, worth every penny.......2007-12-06
I love these speakers. I use them all the time since i purchased them.
I use them with my 30 gig Zune. The battery life last about 15 hours plus it came with a AC adapter. Would definitly buy again.
Can't see why other more expensive speakers can't sound like this.......2007-11-27
It has clear sound, good bass, feels nice, and a short and practical cord. It is bigger than the picture makes it look. It's 11.5 inches long, 4.25 inches wide and 1.25 inches thick. It still awkwardly fits into my cargo pants pocket though, which is all I was looking for.
The first time I played some sound through it, all I could say for awhile was "WOW". I was greatly impressed by the sound for portable speakers. You can feel the sound easily on the outside, even at a low volume. Volume was a big thing for me, this puts out enough sound to be heard very well in a single, medium-sized room. Distortion is not really a problem, it handles this well.
Its clear plastic speaker cover folds all the way back as its stand. I can tell it would be easily scratched. Resistance is perfect for the hinges on the cover. It comes with a power adapter that does not charge it. It runs off four AA batteries. You could use rechargeable ones, and charge them externally like what I'm doing. Or, you could in the long-run spend much more on one-time use batteries. My rechargeable in the back of the device did get stuck there though. The case for the batteries in the device is tight, fine for alkaline, single-use batteries, but apparently not too well for rechargeables, which are slightly wider (1-2mm more). The sound input cable is built in, and only a few inches long, which is practical for its design. Because of its length, you simply push the cord into the back of the device, and it wraps around the edge of the back. The cord completely fits neatly into the device. Lid does not close tightly, if it is squeezed with something though, like a rubber band, then it is completely sealed from dirt, although the back has holes for ventilation. There is rubber on the rim of the lid, and the speaker around the rim of the device. If squeezed, it seals perfectly when squeezed gently. It weighs about three pounds with batteries, without the power adapter. The power adapter is extremely light and has a 6ft cord. The plug is put directly on the transformer, but it's thin, so it does not take up two spaces on an outlet, instead it juts out to the side. There is no volume control, only an off and on button on the top. It automatically turns off after seven minutes of no use. When it is disconnected and on, it does not hum or produce any sound at all, it's the ipidimy of quiet. I never have had a problem with it turning off on me when I have my music down incredibly low. It's very sensitive about knowing when sound is being played to it.

Outstanding Performer- not for the inexperienced User.......2007-03-06
Absolutely outstanding feature set and performance. Very easy to set up, the net radio feature is very cool. I have and oldish VCR, a DVD player and DirecTV HD DVR set up through system, works flawlessly. I am waiting for the High Def DVD wars to settle before jumping in, but I will be ready when I do because of the outstanding number of HDMI and other inputs. The Audyssey MultEq Auto Setup/Room Eq is fabulous, worked very well in my oddly shaped room with my Klipsch surround system. I have not had any issues with the video performance, and the upscaling is wonderful. It is very nice to have one cable run to my Plasma as opposed to three! The remote is descent, but the 'hide and seek' portion is a little annoying. I was able to get all of my most needed functions into it, and the macros are nice for powering up and shutting down all components. Sonic performance is well, Denon-esque- meaning beautiful. This is a high-end AV receiver for a high-end user. If you are a true home theater enthusiast, you will extremely happy with this wonderful piece of equipment.
Denon 4306 has several drawbacks.......2006-06-27
As a 4306 owner, I agree with many of the comments by previous reviewers. Sound and video quality are excellent, HDMI switching works fine. Tons of features and somewhat complex to set up. The manual is marginal in many respects.
As stated in previous reviews, the remote control is not very good, but you'll probably want to use a good universal remote if you have more than a few units in your system.
My big problem with the 4306 is this. When playing my Sony VCR through the Denon composite video input, the 4306 often completely freezes and displays only green and/or yellow vertical lines on the screen. This cannot be corrected with the remote control. You have to go to the 4306 and manually cycle it off/on in order to restore normal operation. This is a significant glitch in a high-priced product like the 4306.
I also discovered that the 4306 does not provide audio line outputs. I want to listen to headphones while the main speakers are turned lower or off. (I'm hard of hearing, my wife is not). The preamp outputs are controlled by the same knob as the main speakers. Turn the main speakers down or off and you turn the preamp out levels down or off. Plug the wireless headphone base unit into the heaphone jack on the 4306 and it completely disconnects the main speakers. There doesn't seem to be a clean solution.
Aside from the above problems, I am satisfied with the performance of the 4306.
outstanding sound quality & features, but expensive and not easy to learn.......2006-04-18
I've had my AVR-4306 for about 6 weeks. The sound quality is exceptional. It has nearly every feature you can imagine: tons of inputs of all different kinds, well-implemented HDMI, iPod connectivity, multi-room capability, and many many more. It is basically a wish-list of everything I could ever want in a AV receiver, and more. In addition, the remote can control almost any stereo/video component and TV, and it can control many cable boxes.
The build quality is top-notch. It is heavy - due to a high-quality power supply and case. It is so well-constructed: you will not have to worry about knobs breaking off with frequent use and abuse, and you can plug in and unplug cables 1000s of times without loosening or harming the plugs/connectors. The unit's appearance is simple, sleek and attractive. It complements rather than distracts from the decor of my family room.
I have some reservations, though, which you should consider carefully before spending your hard-earned $$$ on this receiver.
1) Setting it up and learning how to use it is somewhat difficult, frustrating, and time-consuming. (I consider myself very good at hooking up stereo systems and learning computer gear and electronic gadgets.) Plan on spending at least a half day setting it up, and hours more learning how to use it. This is just for learning the basic functions, not for anything fancy (like multi-room hookups). I had to spend 40 minutes on the phone with Denon tech support to figure out something very "simple." (On the other hand, it wasn't hard to get through to a human at Denon tech support, and the call was toll-free.)
2) I'm not crazy about the remote. It is basically a universal remote. Using it to do some basic operations (like switching from TV to DVD) is confusing for people who visit me and try to use the TV while I'm out. Also, if you push the wrong button, you can inadvertently assign the remote to control some other device (that you don't have), and it takes a few frustrating minutes to figure out why the remote isn't controlling the device you think it's supposed to be controlling.
3) The price is too high. Denon now has a much less-expensive receiver called the AVR-2807, which has almost as many features and almost as much power as this 4306, but for just over half the price. The AVR-2807 also offers exceptional sound quality. Though, it is also difficult to setup and learn how to use. Please check it out before finalizing your purchase decision.
If you decide to buy a Denon receiver, please be advised that Denon will only honor its manufacturer's warranty if you purchase the product from a Denon-authorized seller. There's a tradeoff: you can find Denon products cheaper -- the authorized sellers usually charge full retail price, while the "unauthorized" sellers usually offer steep discounts. Buying from an "unauthorized" seller does NOT mean you're buying from the black-market or grey-market. It doesn't mean that the product is of any lower quality. It simply means that Denon won't honor its warranty, so if the item needs warranty service, you will have to take it to a service center and pay for the repair yourself (unless you buy a 3rd-party service package or warranty).
If you buy a Denon receiver from Amazon, you're really buying from a different company that Amazon has partnered with. (Amazon just forwards your payment and information to the other company, who fulfills the order.) So you need to find out whether this other company is an "authorized seller." Amazon often partners with Crutchfield, and Crutchfield is an authorized seller of Denon products. (Crutchfield also offers outstanding customer support.) However, at the time I write this, Amazon is now selling this unit through a different partner, one that offers a lower price but is not an authorized seller. Anway, just be sure to check this out before finalizing your purchase decision.
My bottom line: I think the 4306 is the best AV receiver in terms of sound quality and features. I've done tons of research and shopping, and I'm very pleased with the unit. The difficulty and frustration of setting it up and learning how to use it are, mostly, short-term issues that go away as you spend more time with the receiver and get to know it better. For me, sound quality and features are more important than ease of use. It is also true that most other home theater receivers are not particularly easy to setup or learn how to use (though probably easier than Denon receivers).
Yet, I recommend you consider the AVR-2807 instead: it is a much better value. I wish I'd have waited until it became available (it was just introduced last month - only 2 weeks after I got my 4306!).
Looking for speakers for your new AV receiver? Check out Aperion. Awesome sound & build quality, exceptional customer service. I am saying this only as a customer - I have no interest in that company's success or failure. Do a bit of research, you'll see that Aperion gets uniformly glowing reviews from CNET, home theater magazines, and users like me.
