Very good receiver for the money.......2007-03-09
I did a lot of research before buying this receiver and I am very happy with the purchase. This is almost identical to the TX-SR504 with a few minor exceptions. The remote on this unit is much better than the 504, this has learning functions, macro functions and better universal remote capabilities. The 504 has one or two minor additions, but for me they were not significant enough for me to want to loose the functionality of the new remote.
I am very happy with this receiver, it has great sound quality, easy to use and would recommend this or another Onkyo with out question. Great product and great value.

I had been wanting to buy the TX-SR603 over this model, the TX-SR573, mostly for the the extra optical input and the optical output, which this model lacks.
However, a local electronics retailer recently had this receiver for 50% off--an unbeatable price. I bought this receiver after some deliberation, and I am very happy I did.
This receiver replaced a cheap and dying Kenwood VR-105 that I bought in 2000. Compared to the Kenwood, this receiver is a huge step up in audio richness, connectivity, and, unfortunately, heat. I also have a medium quality Sony receiver, which is not nearly as nice as this receiver.
I'm using two optical cables to connect two CD changers to this receiver, and a digital coax cable from my DVD player. Note that this receiver will not send any audio signal to the 'B' front speakers from the digital inputs (which my Sony will do). However, most people are not likely to use the 'B' speaker terminals.
The receiver runs much hotter than both my old Kenwood or my Sony receiver. I had to do some rearranging in my entertainment cabinet to free up a good 8" of clearance over the unit to provide sufficient air flow.
The audio can be turned up to very high volumes with little distortion; this is significantly better than my cheap Kenwood.
I have not yet used the XM tuner, as I have an XM unit in another room and don't want to pay extra for the 2nd tuner.
The only real downside I have is that the remote is HUGE: It uses 3 batteries, and is relatively heavy. Fortunately, my smaller universal remote works fine with this receiver.
Assigning digital inputs to labels (such as CD, Tape, Video 1) is a cinch. No problems there.
I'm not sure if I'd be as happy with this receiver if I had paid the full price for it, but if you can find a good deal on it, and don't need high end features such as HDMI switching or upscaling, then this may be a good unit for you.

Not alot to say. Its reliable storage. Fast too! No problems so far. Put about 10,000 photos on it with a Kiss Digital X. Some say "all eggs in one basket", possibly true, but I tend to offload them fairly quickly anyway. Possibly would have been better served with two 4GB cards, but I've no reason to complain so far.

And that sums it up. I bought this card for an upcoming trip to Europe. I own the 30D, and I do not even know how many shots I can actually take (this card can handle 876 RAW shots, so who knows how many 2/3/6/8MP shots it can handle?). Buy this card with confidence!
