The easy-to-install unit mounts conveniently in the wall, where its narrow footprint doesn't keep it from delivering powerful, high-performance sound for both movies and music. The speaker is particularly suited to front or center channel applications in a surround sound system thanks to its versatile three-driver design, which ensures that the lows, mids, and highs all receive ample attention. The NS-IW960's dual 6.5-inch Kevlar cone woofers, for instance, reproduce frequencies as low as 50 Hz--a solid number for an in-wall speaker. The 1-inch titanium dome tweeter, meanwhile, ranges as high as 28 kHz. The end result is warm, rich sound that transitions smoothly and seamlessly from bass-heavy passages to soaring vocal highs.
Yamaha uses only high-quality materials when building the drivers to ensure superb sound quality from any source. And should you need to re-orient your listening area for any reason, the NS-IW960 stands ready to accommodate your new setup. The speaker's tweeter is built on an adjustable swivel, so you can "aim" the high-frequency sounds toward the new listening position. To do so, simply press on the edge of the tweeter until it reaches the correct angle.
Finally, each speaker includes a high-capacity, customized crossover network at 6.5 kHz that helps minimize distortion and prevent the deterioration of transients as they pass through the network. And installation is straightforward thanks to the included cutout template, the paintable grille and frame, and the gold-plated push-type speaker terminals. Note that proper installation requires such tools as a power drill, a drywall saw, wire strippers, a level, a Philips screwdriver, and a sturdy wire such as a coat hanger.
The speaker, which boasts a power rating of 50 watts nominal and 150 watts maximum, measures 7.69 by 23.44 by 3.75 inches (W x H x D) and requires a mounting depth of 3.16 inches. The speaker is also backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Would be zero stars if it was an option.......2007-08-26
I should have read the previous review before making my purchase! I ordered it from homedecorators dot com also. The product arrived promptly and although the wood was thin, it had a nice look to it. When they say assembly required, they mean it, every peg, screw, and nail...and there are a lot. It was very easy to put together but the sheer number of parts made it take two hours. Once together it was not as stable as I would have liked but I was willing to over look that. What I was not willing to overlook was that one of the doors hung lower than the other. This was not a problem with the way it was put together, it was a problem with where the holes were drilled. After opening and closing the door a few times and making what adjustments were possible it still hung lower but did not scrap as much. Then I noticed that after only a few opening and closings of the door the finish had worn off where the contact took place and it was visible from the front of the until with the door closed. Not only that but after some CD's and DVD were put in the door it sagged enough to make contact again.
This product is of extremely low build quality. If you follow the simple directions you will end up with a doors that do not fit properly and shelves that you have to squeeze into place. I certainly hope their customer service is better than the quality of the merchandise because this has to go back and with all the screws and nails, there is no way I can take it apart and box it back up. I am also just sending back a wall cabinet I ordered from them without ever taking it out of the box because I am so disappointed with the quality of their merchandise.
Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for your furniture.
NOT WORTH THE COST OF THE CARBDOARD BOX.......2007-02-07
I purchased this from Home Decorators. Com and the only nice thing I can say is that it arrived promptly, and the customer service is good. On opening the box I was horrified to see the shelves were made of multiple pieced together off cuts which had been stained (no veneers here), the stain made lines where the wood had been pieced together and looked more like a very bad patchwork quilt. No problem just get them exchanged. Then tried to put the thing together, the dowel holes were in the wrong places and one side was higher than the other, then the one edge piece had an angle cut exposing bare pine wood. One of the side pieces too had been pieced together and that had started to split! I never found out what it looked like finished as when I got to the two tone effect as some pieces had been dipped in stain twice to hide the peg holes and screw holes and others only once so the peg holes and screw holes were bare wood (pine), and the fact that it did not fit flush, that was enough for me and arranged to send it back. Caveat Emptor.

didn't seem to last all that long.......2007-01-25
brought two 4-packs of these on vacation, had them run out on me faster than it seemed they should. do not seem better than energizer nor duracell. I bought some lithium energizers to use for my next trip. I was using them in a canon digital camera which works with normal alk batteries. bought these as a "get to $25" fill in purchase at amazon.

As a new parent and a electronics buff, I go through a lot of batteries. Whether it's D cells for the baby's swing or AAs for any of our 14 different remote controls, it seems like I'm always changing batteries on something. I do have some NiMH rechargeables, but these tend not to last long in higher drain devices. I tried out a few of these Monster AA alkalines in a sale from Amazon/Circuit City and so far, I'm impressed.
My DVD-recorder remote (for a Panasonic DMRE100HS) was getting a little sluggish, even from just a few feet away. I popped the batteries into my tester and they looked like they were OK (90%), but on a whim, I tried a fresh pair of Monster AAs and suddenly I can control the DVD recorder from the far corner of the room with no problems! Also, in our son's Gymini playmat (which uses AAs for the music), I've had these Monsters in for weeks and they're still going strong.
I can't say I've done any head-to-head comparisons against the "big two" (Duracell and Energizer), but from my experience so far, I'd say they're at least on par if not better than the coppertops and the bunnies.
Try 'em... you'll like 'em.
