Wires are too short...could not get the desired separation of the sattelites. Sounds good enough though.

Was browsing around Fry's for some cheapo speakers. This particular set was $20, and out of all the other sets of cheapo speakers, which usually had an RMS around 8-12, this set was closer to 20.

The satellites are cheap, light, and come with somewhat short (4-5 ft) 2-wire cables that connect to spring clip connectors on the back of the speaker. I suspect you could probably upgrade/replace them with some other brand.

The trade off for the simple 2wire cable is that there's no way to control the volume from the satellites. Which means you have to have the front of the sub somewhat accessible to change tone/volume.

This set basically trades the convenience (and expense) of more convenient satellite speaker controls with a more powerful speaker at a lower price.

For $20, the sound is great. Obviously not the best out there, but if you wanted the best you wouldn't be considering $20 speakers.

I bought these for my office b/c I took the $100 Altec's that I bought a few years ago home.

They do not compare to the $100 set but neither does the price. A fair deal for the money.

Volume Control on the Subwoofer?.......2007-04-24

I purchased these speakers without noticing that they do not offer the same features as the Altec Lansing 120i I have at work. This set does not have a headphone jack and the volume and tone controls are on the subwoofer instead of the speakers. This makes no sense to me since most people put their subs under their desks.

These 2 shortcomings made me return the set immediately, but it may not be a big deal for you. I still really like the 120i speakers and suggest them to anyone looking for really inexpensive, small speakers (they do not have a sub).

I really like the speakers, they have a very beautiful sound, a lot better compared to my laptop. They are small so they fit pretty well in my dorm, over all I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. In fact, I'm using them now!
