Philips makes a very reliable blank CD-R that can handle up to 80 minutes of music or 700 megabytes of data. Moreover, these blank CD-Rs are capable of recording data at high speeds up to "52x." The data I recorded onto these CD-Rs has now lasted for over a year, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs and discs to record audio. I almost never got a coaster. I am very, very sorry to read that some other people had bad experiences with this brand of CD-R blank media; I can only write of my own personal experience with Philips blank CD-Rs.
The CD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data or music onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your CD-Rs that have anything stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.
There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than the packaging advertises. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your CD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the CD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note. At least that's what I do.
Overall, Philips blank CD-R discs store data reliably (at least in my experience) and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at the very highest speed advertised.
Beware!.......2007-01-23
Half-way through a spindle, I discovered that blanks that I had already recorded were becoming worthless. The recordable layer, which is stamped on top, was bubbling up and just flaking off. You can see right through the plastic disk! This hasn't happened to me in many thousands of CDR's bearing other brands, and is a genuine disaster if the disk contains your only copy of key data. Twice I called Philips tech support and they showed no real interest. They ignored my suggestion to take the batch code imprinted on the disk plastic. Bad disks, bad company.
Easily stop working if scratched, even if it's just a bit.......2005-10-04
not that special, they can start skipping easily, if scratched jsut a bit, they don'tlast as long.. I recommend other products I'll never buy Philips CD-Rs again.

I have used the 52x Philips CD-R with the Philips SCB5265 CDRW/DVD drive. No quality problems so far (1st 50 off), so I thought I'd tempt fate and rate the product!
When I hold my ear near the drive while it is running, I have never heard any sound of eccentricity or felt any vibration.
PS You don't have to ink jet print them, you can use a ball point pen.

I have used the 48x and 52x versions of Philips CD-R, and I am happy to report that I have not had ONE single coaster from these discs!
Philips (teamed with Sony) came up with the idea for the compact disc, and revolutionized the future of digital media.
Why not buy from them? They're obviously the professionals, here!
